Blockchain technology trying to reduce the usage of Google Chrome browser

avatar

Though blockchain technology started over a decade ago, we have to say that the technology is still in its early stages. One good thing about this technology is that it is capable of monetizing applications that we use regularly. The transformation is slow but it is definitely happening. In this article, I'm going to talk about how blockchain technology is helping people earn for browsing the internet.

The above stats are for this month and I picked the stats from this site. I guess any browser that is using Chromium as the base would be displayed as Chrome. So, even if people use Brave or Netbox, it would still be displayed as Chrome I believe unless Microsoft found out a way to make their Microsoft Chromium Edge browser stay separate in that list.

Google Chrome was a revolutionary browser a few years back. I have used it during the early days and found it as a great alternative for Internet explorer. It used to be very fast compared to Internet Explorer. I have also read the following quote that was very popular when Google Chrome ruled the browser world. The above stats show that it is still ruling the world. Here goes the funny definition of Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer is the in-built browser shipped with Windows operating system to help users download and install Google Chrome browser on a new laptop.

As the definition says, I used Internet Explorer exactly for the same reason. Whenever I do a Windows installation, the only reason why I use Internet Explorer or Edge was to just download Google Chrome.

Browsers backed by blockchain technology

Google Chrome has always been my only favorite browser for over a decade. But in the last year I have stopped using Google Chrome as my browser. When I recently did my laptop configuration, I didn't even install the Google Chrome browser on my laptop. I now have two alternate browsers that I use for my day to day activities.

Brave browser

Most of you would have heard about this browser from someone or even from me in the past. I even wrote a detailed article to help and provide some details about the Brave browser. All the information is available in this article but still I would like to give brief information as to how the browser overtakes Google Chrome. I can be considered as a good example of this. I stopped using Google Chrome nearly one year back. Below are the few reasons that pushed me towards using Brave instead of Google Chrome.

Source

  • I get paid for browsing. This is just a passive income for me for my day to the day browsing experience.
  • The privacy and ad blocking feature is commendable on the Brave browser.
  • I get all the features that Google Chrome already has as both the browsers are a wrapper on top of the native open-source Chromium browser.

The above image shows my recent earnings from ads in the last month for using the Brave browser. Additionally, as Brave gives me the same browsing experience, I did not have any necessity to have Google Chrome installed on my machine.

Netbox browser

I know this is not a very popular or a well-known browser but it is said that this is the browser that was supposed to be the first one to make use of the blockchain technology. Sometimes I might get a feeling that Brave browser just uses the terminology Blockchain but was never backed by original blockchain except for the BAT tokens that were distributed as rewards. But the Netbox browser is actually based on a pure blockchain and the transactions and blocks are clearly visible for the users.

This is my secondary browser on my laptop. I couldn't find a mobile version but I find the desktop version very comfortable to use. Sometimes I find it hard to browse certain things on the Brave browser as it filters out many results. In such cases, I switch to the Netbox browser to have a filterless browsing experience. All the 3 points that I mentioned above for the Brave browser also apply to the Netbox browser as well. Below is what I have earned so far for using Netbox browser.

Another interesting thing about both these browsers is that they have a referral scheme as well. We can refer users and get a small reward for all our referrals. If you are new to both the browsers, you can try it out with my referral links. Please find the links below.

Microsoft Chromium Edge joining the race

Recently Microsoft also joined the browser race by introducing a Chromium-based new edge browser. The browser is going to give the same experience as to that of Google chrome and this might help in making the windows users use the default browser that the operating system provides. But the days of Internet Explorer is gone. I guess even the modern applications are no longer coming with Internet Explorer support. But there is no blockchain stuff or monetization stuff in this new Microsoft Edge browser.

Hello @bala41288,

Thanks for the reference to Netbox. I use Brave, and yes, it performs great on my Mac. I'm going to experiment with the other one you refer.

Thanks for the review.

If you need a referral link to Netbox let me know. You will get 20 tokens for using my referral link. The one that's there in the post is already used. Looks like referral links are just one-off.

Wait, it's only available for Windows OS, I use Mac OS. Well, I can still install it on my wife's or son's PC.

In the same way, thanks my friend, I install it and then I will tell you.

Chrome used to be fast. In the past few years it has become a hog that uses up the computer's resources. Chromium based browsers seem more like the old Chrome when it was awesome.

I had not heard of Netbox. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

I completely agree with you. I also noticed that Chrome consumes lots of resources. I experience the same with Brave as well as Netbox as well. But I guess maybe it is the usual behavior for all the browsers unless someone finds a way to optimize it. 😉
