The underground caves of Castellana

The caves of Castellana are an authentic masterpiece of nature that has built a path in the rock that displaces itself at a depth of over 100 meters from the ground. The rocks are of karst origin and form a complex of stalactite and stalagmite creations that have secular origins.

There are two routes that tourists can choose from: a shorter one of about 1.5 km or a longer one of over 3 km. The path is not linear and requires the ascent and descent of stairs, the crossing of caves with high vaults and other much lower vaults, such that it is necessary to bend down so as not to knock one's head.

The air is fresh and very humid and this makes the path quite slippery in some sections. So you need to be equipped with shoes suitable for facing such a path. The caves have been set up with special lights that offer truly incredible and indescribable effects.

The caves are also home to some theatrical scenography by national companies and the suggestive scenes that the caves offer are the ideal subject for any plot

I love the photographs. I just looked up the cave system on google and their history is fascinating. Thank you for sharing, especially in this time of lock downs, it is appreciated that I can still explore from my own sofa.
