Niche Communities? Here’s the Deal...

I remember when I first arrived in the other chain I would look for posts that were simply put. I needed to know the how’s, where’s and why’s so I searched for articles where I didn’t have to ask google what they were talking about.

Hey, I have much love and respect for techies - my husband is one - but sometimes I just need to hear A, B and C instead of z2=XYZ/#! 😂

I have no clue what I just typed there but it sure looks techy! 🤓

I am here to bring you one of those simply put posts to help you understand the deal on Niche Communities and why we are encouraging you to post in them.

Wнy Poѕт ιɴ Nιcнe Coммυɴιтιeѕ?

About a month ago @acidyo gave us a rundown on the OCD Communities Incubation Program and their current plans on restructuring the OCD Community.

Their focus is now geared toward supporting and helping to develop small niche communities:

Formerly known as Operation Curation Delegation, we've shifted our curation focus to support a diverse selection of niche communities. We will be guiding newcomers and users to the correct communities so they're used the way they were meant to. Having a rich variety of communities, all with dedicated moderators and curators will make for a much better experience for new users and creators to find the right place and for quality to thrive.

@acidyo

These niche communities that are in the OCD Incubation Program are being supported with upvotes, delegations and more exposure. In turn this means better support for their members.

So not only are the community accounts being supported but YOU the member is also being supported. Community leaders are submitting your quality content directly to the OCD team curators to get you some extra support from @ocdb and @blocktrades!

S͟c͟e͟n͟a͟r͟i͟o͟: Elliot loves being outside. He takes photos of all the beautiful nature around him from the sky down to the insects. He even records short videos of the things he finds on his nature walks.

Elliot decides to submit a post in the OCD Community about his nature finds and photos. He gets a few upvotes but wonders why he doesn’t get many comments or much interaction.

Well he is posting his nature topic in a community that shares general content (this could range from a number of things) instead of posting in a niche community that will relate to his post, share the same interests and that ‘gets him’.

If you want interaction then share amongst like-minded people that would enjoy reading your content.

S͟u͟m͟m͟a͟r͟y͟: Elliot decides to publish his nature posts in the Amazing Nature Community and sometimes in the Fascinating Insects Community. When he is able to capture nice and clear photos of his nature walk he shares those photos with the Photography Lovers Community.

He is excited to have several options of sharing his work with an audience that will enjoy and appreciate it.

Elliot is a made up character but the communities mentioned are real and active and are a part of the OCD Community Incubation Program.

Wнy тнe Coммeɴтѕ ғroм тнe OCD Iɴcυвαтιoɴ Teαм?

The OCD Incubation Team was formed in order to help guide users to post in the appropriate communities. So if we find niche topic posts in the OCD Community, we will leave a comment on that post with a suggestion of the community their content relates to.

We also search for quality posts from newcomers to nominate them for our curation compilation.

So if you receive a comment from one of us Mods we are simply trying to help you by leading you to a niche community that would better suite your content. It will most likely be accepted better because you will be posting amongst others that are also interested in that same topic...

Remember posting with like-minded/passion interested people creates better interaction and response results ;)

Please understand that the comments we leave are urging you to follow our rules. Constant ignoring of these messages shows us that you will not adhere to them and actions must be taken.

If you choose to continue to post niche topics in the OCD Community you risk being muted.

Community leaders and organizers work hard behind the scenes to make sure their communities are running smoothly so that everyone can have an efficient experience. Our hope is that you’d respect those rules by acknowledging and following them:

OCD Cσммυηιту Rυℓєѕ:

1. Only post original content created by you.
2. Post in English or English + your native language in the same post.
3. We'll generally refrain from voting on Political, Religious, Drama and Cryptocurrency/Technical Analysis content and any posts that would fit better in the communities we're supporting. Check pinned post for more info on which those are.
4. Try and submit your content to the more appropriate communities before OCD, unless you feel it doesn't belong in any and is original content that works with our rules.
5. Cross-posting from the other communities to get visibility from OCD's subscribers is okay as long as the original is posted there.
6. Constant ignoring of our warnings to post your content in the other communities will get you muted.

You are still welcome to cross-post your niche topics to the OCD Community as long as you first post them into the appropriate community. Cross-posts are also eligible for curation nominations ;)

Check here for the current list of communities we support!

Wнαт Cαɴ I Poѕт ιɴ OCD?

Now that’s a good question! The OCD Community will accept general blog posts that do not fit in any of the communities we are supporting.

It’d be great and beneficial to take some time to look over the list from the link above to familiarize yourself with all of the supported communities.

Please be sure to only post original content created by you!

Tнιɴɢѕ тo Coɴѕιder

I’ve been around for quite sometime now - let’s just throw it out there - since 2016. I know what it takes to make a quality post and what curators are looking for - especially because I am one ;)

Please consider these pointers when formulating a post:

• Submitting a post with one photo and barely a few words is looked down upon. You can have the most awesomest photo but if you are not going to take the time to elaborate on it ie. location, background about the photo, story behind the photo etc. then it could easily be looked over.

• If you can shoot for at least a 2 minute read you’d be better off. Most posts that are only a minute and under usually don’t make the curator’s cut. We are looking for quality content that has put effort into their work.

• If you are posting in your native language it is very important to make sure you include an English translation. Most people won’t have the time or patience to bother with trying to translate your words. It is up to you to make sure all of your audience are able to comfortably read your content.

• Another important one is to Cite Your Sources! I have read many of great posts but had to skip over them because the sources were not sited. We don’t accept copy and paste work or plagiarism so if you forget this important step then you could be missing out on curation rewards.

Please note the source under each photo, video or document so it is visibly known upfront.

• Taking the time to proofread your work goes a long way. You will have a better retention rate if the readers are able to get through smoothly without too many typos and confusion ;)

I hope this post was simply put enough and you were able to pull some helpful information away from it.

In summary:

Coordιɴαтιoɴ + Cooperαтιoɴ = Tнe Hαppy Dαɴce ғor Everyoɴe 💃🏽🕺🏽

So if you receive(d) a comment from your Friendly OCD Incubation Team: @ybanezkim26, @xves, @roadstories, @perceval, @ilazramusic, @gentleshaid, @castleberry and @crosheille under the leadership and direction of @acidyo, @derangedvisions, @macchiata, and @livinguktaiwan...

please know that we are only trying to help make a better experience for everyone. Posting niche topics in the appropriate communities will connect you to folks of like interests and possibly get you more interaction.

My hopes are that you never get one of those comments from us because you fully catch the drift :)

All photos are my own and were taken with our Cannon EOS Rebel T6.

I love that there is so much support for niche topics (although I naturally regard needlework not as an niche topic but as the most important theme one could write about <3) and for me it very helpful to read about guidelines so that we can grow together and find likeminded people. Although I am also not too short on hive, I still have so many questions (poor @muscara has to suffer from me a lot) and so I appreciate such post as you just wrote a lot. Thank you for helping us with your knowledge <3

I smiled big when you said needlework as the most important theme to write about! 😂😁🤩

That's exactly it! We can all learn and grow together and work as a unit. I am glad this post could help you some. My goal is to help make things more clear about the use of these awesome communities that have been created.

Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback ~

Yes, someone had to. 😁 It was a pleasure doing this though. I just hope we have less negative responses after people better understand the whole point. I know everyone will respond differently but hopefully this helps a little. 😊

😂😂😂 that meme though! 🤪

It should be pretty clear on the description part and rules if they bother to check. I suppose many have accustomed posting there without even bothering to check the rules and for a while there was no strict moderation like what we're doing these days. So, it shocked them when the mods start visiting their posts.

Definitely so. I wonder how many actually do read the rules of a community? 🤔

Yep I think that’s exactly it. Once the visits started it got real. One things for sure, if anyone is uncomfortable with change they will have a hard time on this platform because there is constant change and new developments all the time.

Nice and simply explained and in such a friendly way. 😊 Sometimes the explanations for these things can come off as a little intimidating, so I really like this approach.

I personally thank for incredible breakthru to direct user to engage in niche community so we know what community fit to the content. All you guys do, I believe you do best for community to help user thrive. Your supports mean a lot to us.

Thank you for this well written post and I am in total agreement with you.
But, and there is always a "but".
At the moment I am posting directly in OCD until the glitches after the Hardfork settles down.
You will note my posts in the niche communities such as @amazingnature and @featheredfriends and as soon as things settle down I will return to post in them.

It was a pleasure and I appreciate your positive comment about this write up :)

Yes I have noted that you post in those communities and it is greatly appreciated. I must say that posting directly into the OCD Community doesn't take those glitches away...meaning there are glitches happening throughout the chain. So technically you can still post in the appropriate communities even now ;)

Thank you and not in our case here in South Africa my friend.
As charity workers, we have a very low strength data feed (the cheapest) and that's why we struggle more than others. So, for some reason, I find OCD the easiest to use.
Yes, the replies still disappear and at times PeakD does not open and a few other things, but I am not a moaner and I find solutions to the problems.
From Monday I will return to my old posting sequences, as by then I hope that everything will run smoothly again.

Hello @crosheille I loved this post, very instructive, it helped me a lot. Thank you for your very good guidance. I would like to have contact with you for any questions. I know you speak English and I Spanish but I know that we will understand each other with translations. I would like to chat with you for any questions because despite my level there are many things that I do not know. I don't know if you agree with me, I'll be waiting for your answer. Saludos.

I am thoroughly impressed with the OCD team and the ongoing efforts of @acidyo to make Hive a powerful platform for expression and connection—so vital at this time. Thank you. I am the host of a new(ish) niche community called Hive Open Mic, celebrating live music with weekly events. It is an honor and a pleasure to invest energy into this community, and I am very pleased to receive the boost of your team's support. I feel your backing is bringing encouragement both to newcomers and to musicians who return week-after-week, while also enouraging me to keep on truckin'. Thank you so much.

I agree it is very vital at this time. I think what you have going with your community is very encouraging to musicians and music lovers. I love that you have a weekly theme to encourage more harmony throughout the community but you still allow the artists to bring forth what inspires them :)

Thank you so much for providing your feedback and insight on how the support from OCD has been encouraging. It’s great to know all of the added support has a part in the retention rate of community members.

I recieved a comment on my post and after reading this post I understand that you're trying to build more coherent communities to increase engagement. However, I would also like to point out that:

Please take note that repeated posting in OCD instead of posting in appropriate communities will result to muting of post or author.

Could be reworded to be less threatening, left out entirely, or attached to a 2nd post on a warning comment.

I think you would have a better response with an initial positive message with a link encouraging users to read this post, which does contain warnings against posting what the mods regard as off-topic content and an explanation as to the motivations behind such warnings, would likely serve the communities better.

I will post my next set of macro photos to the insect focused community.

Though it is not intended to invoke any ire, "cited" not "sited" :)
The very next tip was about proofreading...

Thank you and best of luck with the niche communities project.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my post as I am very pleased it helped you reach a better understanding of our goals.

I also want to thank you for the feedback after receiving one of our comments. Our intentions are definitely not to be threatening or intimidating in any way.

Input like this will help us to better communicate with users and hopefully develop a better approach that will result in more cooperation and understanding.

No ire invoked here, only gratitude. It has been corrected. ✅ Thank you ~

We appreciate you adhering to our rules :)

Very nice and informative post, thank you!
To be honest with you, I have been using #ocd very often, because I was under the impression that it can stand for any type of original content. I always post my own original content, and sometimes before I publish it anywhere else (such as my images)
I will make sure to check out the communities there are and I believe in them, being the reason hive will grow even bigger in the near future. The motivation for a content creator is first the audience/like minded people for sharing content and then the rewards - so we need to focus on the communities growth.

Thank you again :)

p.s. I noticed a typo, perhaps you wish to correct it?

You are very welcome! I am grateful for all this feedback confirming that it was helpful :)

Thank you so much for taking heed to what we are doing and making the extra effort to get to know the communities. I also believe that focusing on community growth will help Hive to grow as well as motivating content creators which we have already been seeing.

Also I appreciate you mentioning the mistake and it has been corrected ;)

Thank you ~

I notice people use this a lot and I don't know why. It was relevant but now with communities, I don't think tag matters that much unless your post doesn't belong to any community.

I have been using #ocd very often, because I was under the impression that it can stand for any type of original content.

If you want to grow your audience outside "alike-minded" people, there's an option via peakd to crosspost in OCD or other communities which might have interest in your content.

The motivation for a content creator is first the audience/like minded people for sharing content and then the rewards - so we need to focus on the communities growth.

Lol, I'd have thought there'd be more intuition on posting in communities relevant to your topics you post about but I guess not!

I was thinking of doing my own post about using tags and communities because comments and interactions on a blog are where it's at, not chasing upvotes... But we are in crypto land after all 😂

Thanks for trying to address the problem. Hope you guys haven't received too much heat for trying to help others grow their network - you can lead a horse to water....

Yes, that’s what you'd think and would hope for but because there are different motives when posting it's not always so.

Some are more concerned and focused on the amount of rewards they receive so they juggle around trying to find that upvote their looking for. Others are working hard just to get a few comments of input and feedback on their post so they look forward to finding and posting in niche communities.

I encourage you to make that post because I don’t think we can encourage it enough. The more the better...especially because we constantly get newcomers coming that would love a heads up about tags and communities ;)

Yeah most of it has been received positively but of course we’ve had our occasional didn’t go as well ones. Hopefully this will help clear the air for many as we continue on our mission.

Thanks so much for your input ~

I have tried to edge away from talking about the rewards when posting and when I made my article yesterday about the @exxp WordPress plugin, I only mentioned rewards once as it's in the options that you need to select so had to explain what it meant. The focus does need to be on finding like minded people and having your posts backed up and always accessible on blockchain (for WordPress bloggers anyway) - so social and then the rewards are a bonus that will come, especially if you have an abundance mindset (and are consistent, genuine and just turn up an interact)!

Sorry, went off on one haha!

OK you convinced me, will try and get a post out after work this evening, I have a rest day and so have a bit more free time to dig in to what's out there!

nice and informative. like 2+2=4 (non of that weird symbols stuff)
I don't spend a lot of time in OCD community especially because of that, it is all and everything (so i mostly follow people i want to see, or check niche communities for new things). So maybe you already do this.
As OCD started "cooperating" with niche communities, maybe the goal could be making OCD a place with good posts posted in other communities. You already do the curation, maybe you can start crossposting it to ocd and encouraging people to post in niche.
There we would get only (probably) best posts in OCD and people using communities that are made for the specific thing.

Not sure what the end goal of ocd is, so maybe the suggested thing is not in line of ocd plans.

0

avatar

Haha yes I can definitely get with 2+2...nice and simple. 😄

Thanks, being informative was my intention.

That would be a lot more extra work on us curators to go out and find posts just to cross posts to our community. This is why there is a structure set in place for users to cross post their own posts into our community after they have posted in the appropriate one. The great thing about curation is that those of good quality get curated. So even though every post that is submitted in OCD isn’t a great post, only those of quality get rewarded for their efforts :)

Thanks for sharing your suggestion though ;)
