A Cup of Coffee for Rebellion

None other than Albert Camus, a French philosopher, born in Mondovi (Whack) in Algeria, on November 7, 1913 and died in Villeblevin France, on January 5, 1960, who hit through his work 'Caligula' in 1944.

He revealed that, "should I kill myself, or drink a cup of coffee?". An expression, which we cannot literally conclude as a bad choice from Camus, to commit suicide.

But only a statement, which we need to interpret from an absurdist perspective. This, despite the background of Camus, is an absurdist.

He said that Camus' perspective on the absurd was that human life was absurd. The location of the absurdity is (1) on the one hand the living human leads / leads to the future while (2) on the other hand, the future brings humans closer to death.

Facing this absurdity, people often "flips", or in other words, run away, by (1) immersing themselves in a particular religion or ideology or (2) committing suicide.

Perhaps what we need to interpret Camus' statement, in the first paragraph of this note, we can find its relevance in his statement on the second point in the second paragraph of this note, which discusses suicide.

Certainly a point, which for ordinary people is something that is nafs. This is because humans often do "flips", one of which is by committing suicide. Therefore, we need to interpret suicide comprehensively, otherwise we will be misguided.

But in fact, either "flipping" into religion or ideology to committing suicide was rejected by Camus as a solution to the absurdity of human life. The solution he offered was to stage a rebellion against life (revolt).

That is, to face life boldly without fearing the danger of death, which can come at any time without being noticed. That is the essential aspect of Camus' statement as described in the first paragraph.

However, Camus' statement, substantially has the same meaning as the statement of Riawani Elyta, a writer, who was popular through his work, 'The Coffee Memory', which was published in 2016.

Because they both have an interest in the human aspect (humanism). Where Elyta said that, "a cup of coffee is a bridge of memory and the warmest communication. And, with him, we can create special moments in a glimmer of the journey of life".

Of course, we can see Elyta's contemplative statement in the perspective of global humanism, which is not fragmented in religious humanism and secular humanism.

Apart from this description, the most important thing that needs to be interpreted is, to enjoy a cup of coffee, which is extremely delicious, which can support us, to stay active in the morning. Let's enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. (MJ Latuconsina).
