Hive Power Up Day (#HivePUD) - 1 July 2020

PUD 1 July 2020.png

I consistently participated in @streetstyle’s power up initiative on the other chain and can honestly not be too sure what I’ve done on Hive. Part of the reason has been my own level of discombobulation and that I’ve had to look at converting my huge stash of crypto to fiat. Thanks to the Covid crisis. While the crisis is not over, for the moment, I’m working on taking myself and my stash off that other chain and cashing that in. I’m also trying to hold out as long as I can. I’m waiting for...
SAM_1414.JPG

So, on Hive, I’m putting my money Hive where my mouth is and will be powering up on 1 July. Whether I’ll use the HBD to buy Hive or not, will depend on a couple of things between now and then.

Red fish

It’s no secret that I am supportive of initiatives that specifically support noobs on the blockchain. The support I received from @pifc started by @thedarkhorse. That support was instrumental in my leap from red fish to minnow.

Speaking of redfish, I was delighted to read that @traciyork was taking on board the suggestion that Hive Power requirement be reduced from 300HP to 100HP. So I agree that it is a…

Why am I powering up?

I think that crypto is the way to go. I no longer have any confidence, let alone faith, in the banking system. I’ve developed a jaundice against governments. Most, and certainly the one in my country, which seems completely inept at addressing most things and particularly impunity and corruption. I do not want to see crypto regulated. Right now, my confidence is in crypto (volatile though it is) and the Mattress Bank. If you don’t know what that is, use your imagination.

Thanks and good wishes

So, all that remains is to

  1. Thank @traciyork for taking up the baton. For more information about this month’s instalment and what to do, please check out her post here.
  2. Send good wishes to @streetstyle and hope soon to hear news of his and his family’s good health.
  3. See you on #HivePUD day!

Before I go...

If I hit my goal of 2k Hive on 1 July after I've powered up, I will delegate 50HP for three weeks to a qualifying redfish from @theterminal and nominated by either @traciyork or @brittandjosie. I will do the same for someone in the @pifc Discord and nominated by either @thedarkhorse or @viking-ventures. These will be recurring delegations each month, and to mark my third anniversary on the blockchain - some time next month, and of which I'm sure @hivebuzz will remind me!

Until next time, be well

The responsibility, lol. I'd better look around pifc to see who's posting what, but that Discord is going to remain quiet until the relaunch of the contest...

I'm happy to wait, Lori. I know there's a re-launch, so it may be sensible to wait. Perhaps it can be a little something for the future.

You know, when we do the relaunch, maybe delegations for low-level featured bloggers would be part of the prize. I'd be game for that if @thedarkhorse would be.

Ok, cool. You know where to find me when you're ready. The least I can do to reciprocate for the support I received.

Hive to the moon! I doubt I'll get around to a post, but I'll try to do a little powering up on the 1st, as well. Cheers to @traciyork for being a fantastic leader at the moment in this, and bravo to Fiona and everyone else pitching in to use it as a great catalyst to support users.

Thanks, Katie! I am glad I made the time today - I wasn't sure I'd get to it and, for some reason, my brain kicked in.... Also, I like that one can drop in and qualify/not qualify and just support the initiative. I think it's a good thing that @streetstyle started. I do hope that he's ok and soon back and driving what he started.

Mattress Bank

I'd keep your bedside mannerisms private if I were you 🤐

Great to see you getting involved and powering up, hopefully you can get to 2k on the 1st and you're right, @traciyork has activated beast mode with taking the PUD baton, what a legend! (I hope @streetstyle and his family is OK too)

So much awesomeness in this post that I'm not quite sure where to start! 😊

First off, thanks so much for your constant and unwavering support - it truly means the world to me. 🤗 ❤️

What an awesomely generous thing to offer! While I understand it's contingent on hitting your goal, would you be okay with me editing in a mention in my Hive PUD post? I'm truly blown away by how many people are jumping in this month, and I can't wait until @streetstyle comes back and sees how we all kept it going for him!

And here's an early happy anniversary...

Birthday wishes much appreciated!

@fionafavourites I appreciate your kind gesture towards Redfish ralliers. You've been wonderful since I came onboard. Showed me the terminal and left me in great hands.

Although I would say @brittandjosie would say I give her though time😔😔
Not intentional. Just learning the process.

See you on Hive PUD day ☺️🥰🥰
Much love, @becki96830

I am so glad you are beginning to to swim! It's all a learning curve and - even three years later - I'm still not an expert and ask very stupid questions. I'm sure @nickyhavey will testify to that!!

See you on #HivePUD day!

I'm sure nickyhavey will testify to that!!

Yes I will definitely testify to that 😃 🤐

I'm still learning as well but there's so many different facets to HIVE that you will never be bored here and @beckie96830 is in good company with @theterminal!

As a rallier I'm enjoying my stay @theterminal I must say. I'm not also missing out in exploring the different facets of HIVE. There's more to explore every day.

Haha, don't worry, I'm still learning after 2.4 years! But if you have any questions, reach out.

I may be revamping my guides again, been a while since I last wrote one so if you have any topics you'd like me to cover, let me know!

@nickyhavey, Well I gat a few topics I would like you to cover. It's more like some unanswered questions in my head that I'd like to ask.

It's about hive in particular. If I'm asked what is hive I can give an over view. What I don't understand is

  • Where are the tokens coming from
  • How to exchange hive for money
  • How important hive crypto currency is
  • Just like Bitcoin, how can hive be used. Meaning now if I have $20. I know I can use it to buy something. But if I have 20 hive, what can I use it to do.
  • Is hive legal. If it crashes, who is held responsible.
  • If crypto currency is turned to physical cash, which country would claim it.
  • Are we like ripping off others when we win or earn some of these crypto currencies
  • What's cryptocurrency?
I know I can get some of these online but the ones partaining to hive I really don't understand.

If you find any of them worth talking about in a post, I'll gladly hold on till you makes one.

I'm sorry of my questions are too much. I'm also open to be redirected to where all my questions are answered.

Thank you,
❤️ @beckie96830

Phew, ok, you have a few biggies there haha! I have answered some of these previously but I'll be doing some edits and will include some of these topics. I'll come back with a short response on them tomorrow but am exhausted right now and can barely focus on the screen haha!

Thanks for asking them 😃

There's no problem. Please take your time. It's a step by step process. Do have a wonderful rest. Must have had a long day today.

Thanks, yeah, first day back at work after a week off and lots going on - always the way! Anyway, I'll try to answer briefly those questions here:

  • Where are the tokens coming from

These are generated each day on the network, by the underlying blockchain technology. Every 3 seconds, all transactions (posts, comments, wallet transfers etc) are recorded on the blockchain in "blocks of text" known as a ledger. This generates tokens at a set rate with the rate of token generation set to decrease every few hundred thousand blocks so eventually, the amount of tokens generated will be decreased.

  • How to exchange hive for money

There are many exchanges available to do this with. Some don't require any details other than an email address to sign in and create an account which are more favourable (no bank accounts needed). The most common route I know of is to exchange HIVE for BTC and then BTC to your local currency. Some allow withdraw to PayPal, others to your bank account, really depends on personal preference and what is available in your country.

  • How important HIVE crypto currency is?

This is a bit of a tough one to answer as it depends on what you define as "importance". Some people can actually use HIVE as their main source of income and use it to feed their family, I'd argue that it's VERY important to them.

For me, it's a definitely got importance too as a side income with my blogging and I want to eventually use HIVE to help pay for my music production and things relating to my blog. I'd love one day for it to be able to pay for travelling and holidays (when we're allowed to travel again).

  • Just like Bitcoin, how can HIVE be used. Meaning now if I have $20. I know I can use it to buy something. But if I have 20 HIVE, what can I use it to do?

Actually, you can use HIVE to buy things from merchants that have installed a plug-in on their website for products and services and there are games that are running that require Hive to be used to buy things in the game.

More options will become available as time goes on I'm sure.

  • Is hive legal. If it crashes, who is held responsible?

I'm not a lawyer so not really qualified to answer this and every country has their own laws on it but I suspect it would be treated like any other cryptocurrency.

For example, in the UK, anyone can buy and sell cryptocurrencies but don't have to pay tax on it unless you withdraw over a certain amount in to £.

Depends what you mean by "crashing"? If the price crashes, that simply means there's no demand for the token as the open market dictates that. If the blockchain crashes, then it's the witnesses responsibility as they are the ones who maintain the chain and ensure it runs. Different sites like peakd, 3speak etc are run by different people so it's their responsibility to ensure they keep things up and running there.

  • If crypto currency is turned to physical cash, which country would claim it.

My understanding is that cryptocurrency would never work as physical cash because you would have "offline" tokens/money that wouldn't be able to be accounted for on the blockchain. The whole reason for cryptocurrencies is that they are secure and highly encrypted so can't be doctored and money can't be given that isn't there.

No doubt, governments and countries are looking at how they can control money and use blockchain technology as we see the current financial system in chaos.

  • Are we like ripping off others when we win or earn some of these crypto currencies?

Not at all, in fact, others should be joining in the fun and try to win or earn some of it themselves because we're seeing a huge shift in the way we think about wealth distribution.

Some people can't believe it and think it's too good to be true, too complicated, must be a scam... when I've asked these people a bit more about it, the common theme is that they simply don't understand the fundamentals and philosophy of what's going on.

It's their loss ultimately and people will feel aggrieved when they see what they could have when the prices shoot up. As you see on Hive, once you have a log in (your posting key), you can actually just write a post like you would do on any social network and start earning - this is available to anyone so no-one should feel they are getting ripped off.

  • What's cryptocurrency?

In general, it's just another form of money that has no physical form but all transactions made are recorded immutably on a public ledger known as the blockchain.

These transactions are recorded by computers owned by various people throughout the world and not just one entity. This is known as "decentralisation" because you don't have a centralised, single organisation to rely on to keep the blockchain running and transactions recorded.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions - I may put this in a post if you're OK with that? Others might find it useful and we might get more clarification on some of the questions 😃

@nickyhavey I'm highly grateful and appreciate the efforts and time you put in to answer all my questions in clear terms.

I understand everything you said and I feel satisfied that the questions bothering me has been answered. You didn't just answer some of my questions, you answered all.

I wouldn't mind you putting it in a blog which is more preferable for reblog and reference purposes.

Thank you once again for your time and help and I look forward to seeing your blog☺️☺️☺️

@beckie96830

Awesome, happy to have helped! It's good to actually be asked these questions too because it helps me understand them better when trying to explain!

Cool, I'll put them in in a blog later on - turns out that comment was about 850 words LOL! Longer than a few of my previous posts right there haha!

Deeply I appreciate all the efforts you took to reply. I wonder who I would have come across and asked these questions.
Who knows if they'll reply me😔😔😔

You're welcome for the replies, you're doing a lot better than I did when I first started out on HIVE - keep it going 💪
