Well.... SHIT!!!!

This is a serious pain in the ass! I was in the midst of tilling the garden today and had just started down a row when all of a sudden the tiller made a popping sound then began moving in reverse. I had it tilling away in forward but it broke. I let off my throttle catch and tried moving the shift lever but the wheels just spun free.

FUCK!!!!

I pushed the thing over to the yard and began the disassembly process. I took a look at the parts breakout and it looked like I would have to take it all apart and I was right. The thing is now in pieces on the table in the yard.

The problem is one of the chains in the transmission broke. OF COURSE it is the smaller gauged chain that broke and it is deep in the machine. You can see one end of the chain that is all warped. It broke into a few pieces so definitely worn out.

I got only about 1/4 of the garden tilled today and I am pretty pissed that I have to wait until I get this thing cobbled back together before I can get the tilling finished. This is pushing back my planting by most likely a week, hopefully not more.

Tomorrow I will call Ace's in the valley and see if they might by some miracle have the parts I need in stock. A chain is SUPER common so I REALLY hope they have it. I could be back tilling by Saturday if so.

Omg dude, I read the title, then the "fuck", then scrolled to the second image and thought you cut a limb off or something. Glad that wasn't the case when reading the rest. Also note to read before looking at images in the near future to avoid this. xD

Yikes! That would have been a bit gruesome to post pics of for sure if it was a limb! That damned grease has that red tint to it too. 😄

In a way it kinda feels like a limb broke since the tiller is such an integral part of the farm. I am really hoping I can get parts to fix it asap. Else I will be renting a tiller to finish up.

An update: The chain, gasket, and sheer pins are ordered and will be here by Wednesday of next week. This sucks but at least I will be able to repair the thing before May. I may be able to get the section already tilled setup and planted though so at least I can get started.
