Dear Hivers!

In the port city of Alicante, the Benacantil mountain is located, embraced by the white sands of the coast and the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Since ancient times, topography has been a fundamental element in the defence of cities and the establishment of monarchic powers; so on top of this steep hill a fortification was built for strategic purposes due to its natural 360º viewpoint.

It is a fortress that could have been built in the 9th century when Spain was under Muslim rule; however, it is named Santa Bárbara because this divinity is commemorated on December 4th of each year and in 1248 it coincides with the attack led by Prince Alfonso of Castile, who later became king; thus, Alfonso X, nicknamed the Wise man; in honour of the fall of the Muslim yoke when this castle was taken from the Arabs, is called Santa Bárbara.

I was struck by some paintings, army implements and cobblestone walls and walkways. Below I share some pictures taken with my 📷 smartphone, brand Appel, model iPhone X; I hope you like them.
