Get free crypto coins and convert it into Hive for powering up!
A while ago I found out that Coinbase is giving away small amounts of crypto coins for free.
All you have to do is watch some short videos and answer a few questions. When finished you will receive some of that particular crypto.
They would like more people to get to know certain coins.
I collected them all and had around 40 dollar of different coins in my account.
For a long time I didn’t know what to do with it until I read about Blocktrades.
With Blocktrades you can convert different crypto currencies into others including Hive.
So I tried to convert it into Hive to power up my account and it worked!
I have some extra Hive to power up my account on the 1st of november (Hive Power Up Day).
What do you need for this?
- A Coinbase account
- A Blocktrades account
- A Hive acccount
- Some spare time
Collecting your free crypto at Coinbase
Log in to your Coinbase account or create one.
Coinbase is an exchange that needs to know who you are (KnowYourCustomer) so you cannot do this anonymously. Just for the record.

When you have collected the different coins you can convert them into Litecoin via Trade / Convert.
Once all coins are converted into Litecoin you can log into your Blocktrades account (@blocktrades).
Trade Litcoin to Hive via Blocktrades
The next step is to transfer the Litecoin from Coinbase via Blocktrades to Hive.
If you don't have a Blocktrades account yet you have to create one:
https://blocktrades.us/en/trade
In Blocktrades select Litecoin under Send and fill in the amount of Litecoin you have in Coinbase.
Under Receive you select Hive.
Enter your Hive username as the receive address and click on "Get Deposit Address".
You will get an address you can send your Litecoin to. Copy this address.
Send Litecoin via Coinbase to Blocktrades
The next step is to send the Litecoins from Coinbase to the address you just copied from Blocktrades.
Go back to Coinbase and click on send.
Fill in the amount of Litecoin you would like to send and the Deposit address you just copied in Blocktrades in the To-field. Then Continue and send now.
Watch your money being transferred
Once you have performed the steps above your Litecoin will converted and transferred to your Hive account.
You can watch the progress via Blocktrades:
It takes a few minutes, but then you will see it's completed:
When the transfer is completed, just check your wallet.

That's a great idea and a short tutorial! Especially now, when the price of the Hive is low, and you can get a decent amount for that money!
