The Copenhagen contemplation

avatar

Copenhagen is in Denmark...And that's the extent of what I know about it. Yes, I know this is not a very inspirational opening line but it's honest. I mean I didn't even know they don't use the Euro for their currency...They use something called the Danish krone apparently. So yep, it's in Denmark and that's about all I got...Well, I know a couple other things I guess, but not enough to plan out a trip there. Not yet anyway.

src

The thing is, that I'm going to be there soon and whilst I could use a search engine to find out what stuff there is to do there, which I will do at some stage, I thought I'd check in with the brains-trust here on steem to see if anyone has any ideas about what I might do in the 5 or 6 days I'm there. The brains trust is you guys!

My wife and I have travelled a lot and always seem to find cool and interesting things to do, see and experience no matter where we go and will, of course, do our own research but I wanted to open it up to you guys and hopefully find a few that have been there and get some ideas.

We selected Copenhagen as we are pretty interested in Viking stuff and felt that it would be a good place to engage a little with it considering the long Viking history Denmark has. We have identified a place called Roskilde which has a Viking museum we intend to visit and there's a couple of other things we've been told about but other than that the extent of our knowledge is basically limited to it's windy and cold.

We're not the types to wake up late after an all-night session at the pub or to have every single second planned out though...I guess we're looking for a balanced visit: Viking history, see the city, maybe a cruise, some café time and people watching and of course checking out some culinary delights. I have been told it's a nice city to walk around with interesting streets which is great as we like to wander about when on holiday and as we'll be there in July we figure the weather should be ok for some aimless wandering.

We're not sure where we will stay yet, although it's likely to be in the city somewhere so we should have transport at our doorstep.

So, I'm in your hands...If you have been to Copenhagen, lived there or have conducted in-depth studies on it I want to hear from you. No idea is a bad idea so lets brainstorm here people...Throw some ideas at me. There's no wrong suggestions...Well, there might be some wrong ones but considering I have an open mind I'm willing to hear them.

The Danish kroner is the strongest one from the Scandinavian countries and I applaud them for not choosing the Euro. Whatever economy embraced the Euro regretted afterwards. I've talked with Germans that remember how strong was the buying power of the Deutsche Mark comparing it with the Euro era. Regarding Denmark, I only drove through it once, in a road trip from Sweden to Romania, and haven't got too much time to spend there, but they seem very chill folks. I wonder what will be your impression of their language though :)

Hmm, sounds like you won't be able to help with any Copenhagen hot-spots. No worries on the language thing...I'll make it up as I go...And will teach them some Aussie slang whilst I'm at it. We Australian's are loved far and wide around the world so I assume the Danes will love us too!

Thanks for sharing such informative post, I never knew they were using euro as well for their currency until you mentioned it just now.

Copenhagen is a beautiful city so you could basically use one day just to walk around and admire the architecture. The most famous is Strøget which has old architecture nice small streets and cool pubs and restaurant. It is however extremely expensive hehe. I noticed that while walking there. So when you get hungry, just walk a few hundred meters away from the main tourist area and the prices drop quickly. Just and advice.

There is also Nyhavn which is a an old river canal man made I believe. The building are very beautiful there next to the water and the house numbers 18, 20 and 67 (marked with a plaque) were home to the author Hans Christian Andersen at different times.

There is an amusement park inside the city as well, but I guess this time of the year it ain’t too much fun. I think Copenhagen is interesting, but Denmark is quite easy to travel around in so I would suggest checking other places out as well .

Hey mate, that's really helpful. We're planning to do some research in the next few days or hence my post. I was hoping to get the sort of advice like yours here to help direct us and give us a place to start. Much appreciated.

My pleasure ! Btw my friend went to a place just right outside of Copenhagen called urban ranger camp which he said was a lot of fun. They should have a bunch of different fun activities to do there

You should check out Geocaching (https://www.geocaching.com/play). When we head to a new, or previously visited, city/location it takes us to many wonderful spots that we may or may not have seen otherwise.

Not that you want another hobby, but there is it anyway.

I've been researching myself although I figured it would be good to get a few ideas frommpeople who may have been there. Copenhagen seems to be a pretty cool place, nice looking and apparently nice people, so I'm looking forward to going there.

We're fairly seasoned travellers so know what to look for in an activity and we know what we like so I think we'll get to see and do a good selection of things when we are there.

I know you worked a lot so didn't find the time to travel. If you could though do you have anywhere in particular you would like to see?

Got it. In answer to your last sentence: Just tons of places here in the U.S. first and then I'm not sure but I could use a mountain cabin in Canada in the summer!

In my 20s and 30's I travelled alot in this country from border to border and coast to coast and lived in 6 different states. But there is still alot I haven't seen.

Yeah, I guess in a big country like America one maybe doesn't need to go too far to see stuff.

That's true but I've always loved Australia and now that Steemit has exposed me to many other fascinating countries in a more personal and close-up manner I would certainly love to do some traveling overseas.

We love traveling OS as it introduces us to so many new things, experiences and people, so vastly different to our own country. We really love it.

Yes sir galenkp I agree and it provides some very rich posting material that we all get to share in as well!
