Where on Wednesday thirty five: A happy place

avatar

Have you ever had a person sap your energy so thoroughly and completely that you just kind of stared off into space, your mind, heart and soul as vacant as the gaze of your eyes? I have; Today.

Ok, maybe I wasn't as empty as I make out above, but today I let a person drain me so completely that I became ineffective. It was at work, and I simply left to come home; Fed up with the day and frustrated that I allowed someone to ruin it. I'll not go into it here as it's a long and pathetic story; Instead I'll write about how I turned it around and brought my attitude back to a central point.

There were two elements...Three if you count the really tasty grilled cheese toast I made when I came home...That always perks me up.

There were two main elements though.

Cats.

My two cats wait at the door for me to come home; I like to think it's because they can't wait to see me. They greet me with leg rubs and loud meow's. Cleo, the little one, drops flat to the ground facing away from me waiting for some welcome home pats which I happily administer and then she usually goes upside down so I can pat and rub her belly. Merlin jumps up on the cat castle near the door and waits for me to come over for some welcome home head buts.

Yep, feeling better already.

This usually perks me up if I've had a bad day but today I was in a particularly foul mood due that asshole gentleman at the office who acted with zero respect, courtesy or civility. Today finding balance would require a little more work.

Photos.

I came to my computer (grilled cheese toast) in hand (on plate) and opened up some photo files from our recent trip to New Zealand which was a legit trip!

About an hour later I found myself deeply-immersed in the holiday snaps and smiling about the memories we made on the trip, sparked by the pictures I was flicking through. I was centred and feeling much better. I was re-energised.

For most of my life I've managed to find myself in reasonably stressful positions and whilst I've often managed that stress well I knew I needed to manage it better, that I could manage it better: I didn't know how to though.

I came across a concept of immersing myself in a thought, a moment, so completely that the energy I gained drove out any feelings of discontent and negativity replacing it with a positive outlook and the ability to put things into perspective rather than dwell on the source of my restlessness or poor attitude...And so perpetuate it.

Looking at photos like I did tonight is a way to find that happy place, just one of the ways. But it's not just about the looking...One needs to feel it!

The concept works best when I get deep into the feelings and emotions of that happy place, run them through my mind like a movie-reel and actually feel the way I felt whilst being in that place, doing that activity, or looking upon that scenery or vista. One has to transport there, figuratively of course.

I took the image above in New Zealand; It is Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown. We had landed earlier that day and were exploring a little by car. We came across this spot, were drawn to it, and stopped for a walk.

I've travelled a lot and seen some amazing things, but this was something different.

It was so peaceful, soothing and calm...The air was crisp and fresh, the sun warming on our backs and I was on vacation with Faith, my wife. Perfect? Nope...Perfect enough though, for sure.

We built a rock monument to commemorate our happiness and the moment. It won't last forever, but the memory of that moment will, in our minds and hearts.

Rounded rocks and pebbles scrunched beneath our feet and birds wheeled and called above. Clouds drifted overhead, each a unique image, always changing, but constantly there, offering us a different vista each time we looked. The waters lapped gently at the shore, a rhythmic counterpoint to the crunch crunch of our steps. We walked, hand in hand, filling our lungs with fresh air sweeping down from snow-capped mountain peaks and our minds with enduring memories. Perfect enough.

It's that scene, those memories that helped me find a centre-point tonight and rather than rage and carry that negativity into my evening here I sit, smiling, mentally refreshed and emotionally reset.

I'm always disinclined to allow negativity into my life although it creeps in at times. Today that ass-hat at work found a way through my armour and, to my discredit, poked hard enough to get at me. My salvation came through a very simple concept and I'm once again in a neutral place, a place of positivity.

A happy place.

I hope you all had, or have, a great Wednesday and either manage to make it through untouched by the negativity society can bring, or find a happy place like I did and make that negativity disappear; It has no place in your life.

Have a good run into the weekend y'all.

Some times you go through tough situations like this and glad that you quickly turned it around - Usually I am not able to do that, when it involves outside person ( outside of family). The feelings just carries for few days. Good to see your way of recovering soon. May be I will try this next time, when I am hurt.

The pictures are too good - which place in New Zealand ?

Is it Wednesday already? Wow, time goes fast.

Have you ever had a person sap your energy so thoroughly and completely that you just kind of stared off into space, your mind, heart and soul as vacant as the gaze of your eyes?

YES! Yes I have. And that's horrible. Cats are also my salvation. And listening to music.

Oh god, I dropped pizza on my keyboard!!!
Phew, no biggies, it's just the letters that I don't use.

So all good here too and happy to hear you didn't let that asshole ruin your whole day. :)

Ah yes, the old pizza on the keyboard issue...I've been there...Will be again I assume. Lol.

That dude at work is the most hated person...It's being addressed on Friday...We'll see how it goes. It's not worth my time to be honest...I'm better than that.

Got my cats and it's all good! Yeah, music is also good to change ones mood. I do that too.

Oh, by the way...Yes, it's Wednesday. Well, for me in 90 minutes it'll be Thursday.

Next time you see him, think of this song:

Think how you could, as he is trying to explain to you anything that you dislike, shout from the top of your lungs:
"DAAAAAAAAAY-O! me say day, me say day, me say day
Daylight come and me wan' go home"

This is part of the reason shutter bugs like me love photography. Taking a moment in time painted with light.

I have people draining me recently, it’s not nice.

Today was the most challenging day I've had for several months...I made it through though, and reset the attitude so it's all back on track and moving forward.

Yeah, I'm no photographer but on those rare occasions I get a decent snap it feels good. 🙂

I always (almost always) feel better after cuddling my cats for a bit. They are helpful (mostly) that way.
