So, This Is HIVE

First Hive Post Ya Da Ya Da

I feel like I've been putting this off until now simply because so many others have wanted to say the basic equivalent of "Hello, World!" on HIVE.

honey-bees-326337_1280.jpg

However, I really haven't. Plenty going on in my life, the least of which, remarkably so, being this hard fork to HIVE. I don't say that to diminish the undertaking. It's just that corona virus precautions, concern about the health of everyone I know and love, particularly that of my soon to be 79 year old father, and if I'll actually be working at all over the next few weeks, just seem a little more monumental right now.

And really, sadly, I know I'm not the only one with those types of concerns weighing on them. I'm surprised I haven't read more about it, but while there are posts out there, they've kind of been drowned out by HIVE.

Maybe that's okay, too. Dwelling on what's happening in real life isn't exactly all that fun. STEEM was my way of getting away, but the drama there got more intense than the inanity found out in the real world, so there really hasn't been a whole lot of escape for me in recent weeks.

Again, I know I'm not the only one to feel that from all different sides. I guess I'm just at a point where I'm putting it into words.

Observations

At the start of HIVE, things look a lot like STEEM, as expected. It's nice to see Communities migrating over, too. In fact, so much is similar, except for the name, logo and color, it's basically like being on STEEM.

I say that, knowing some will take a offense. I'm not trying to do that. I say it, because there is a familiarity to it, and that's good. While there will be all kinds of changes no doubt happening as time goes by, there wasn't a need to reinvent the wheel with a UI or HIVE interface that no one knows how to use.

As well as familiar, there's also a few bugs, which seems also par for the course. In the case of HIVE, though, I hope they will take priority and be fixed soon, whereas on STEEM or Steemit.com, stuff could linger for a while.

Looks like there's an issue with my avatar or icon—that smiling face of me that accompanies my posts. I've been thinking about changing it anyway, so maybe I'll come up with something else.

I've been able to look at my HIVE wallet with peakd.com and with keychain, but the hive.io wallet isn't giving me anything but an XML error.

Not expecting everything to be perfect, I'm just reporting the experience so far.

Kind Of Feels Like Starting Over

After a little over two years, I felt like I was kind of gathering a following. I can't quite call it a readership, since a lot of what I'm referring to is autovoting, but regardless, I'm not sure if that's going to be around at the start, either.

And since I'm not sure if GINABot is up and running on HIVE, I don't know if I'll get the notifications of upvotes like I've grown accustomed to. It's really actually been quite satisfying to hear those pings.

And then, STEEMWorld seems in limbo as far as HIVE goes because its creator, Steemchiller is on the HIVE naughty list. I don't know if he'll even want to do a HIVEWorld version or not, but STEEMWorld is something I relied on quite a bit since I discovered it some months into my STEEM journey.

I hope things can be straightened out. I've been reading comments about how some people aren't welcome because their opposing viewpoint on how things were handled early on after the announcement that Justin Sun bought Steemit Inc is considered traitorous, or anti-decentralization.

For me, voting up any of the sock puppet witnesses was a bridge too far, but so was voting up human witnesses I didn't trust or feel good about their dealings on the blockchain. I'm hoping that there isn't going to be an ongoing loyalty litmus test here on HIVE like there seemed to always be on STEEM.

The fact is, there will always be dissenting voices. And some may very well have malicious intent. But by and large, most of us will play devil's advocate or think differently because we care very much about the good of the community, and the platform.

And it seems rather hypocritical for some folks to be calling others traitors when their own actions, even if it was meant to bring to light the unsustainability of certain practices, have hurt the platform or the community to some degree.

Just because you're against one thing doesn't automatically mean you're for something else. I find myself against a lot of things lately, while being for none of it, and unfortunately, they keep coming from all directions.

Here's Hoping For A Truly New Beginning

Loyalty and trust are earned. That works both ways, even if you think you've done all you can to deserve it. There's seemingly always more to do.

Obviously, you can't live your life based solely on what others think, and no one but you is ever going to know the full reasons behind your motives, but still, we don't operate in a vacuum, either, and some way, in order for any of this to ultimately work, we need to make or way via some give and take. If we get too rigid in things, we'll end up losing the core principles we hold the most dear.

I Wasn't Going To Write This Much

Silly me.

Considering I don't even know if this will actually post. I think I figured out how to upvote since I wasn't able to do that earlier, either.

Patience. Give it all a little bit of space. Breathe deep. Exhale. Take in the new surroundings.

Let's see if we can truly take HIVE to heights that STEEM couldn't go, for whatever reasons.

No pressure, but no excuses, either.

Onward and upward.

Hey, @lucylin.

Congratulations. :)

Kind of feeling a little blind here so far. Way too dependent on GINABot and STEEMWorld, I guess, but they really are for me the best of the best when it comes to notification and information sources. Really hope both will come around real soon and I'll somehow know about it. :)

I think with all the drama, people might be taking a breather from it.
(Hive might not be buzzing too quickly- pun intended)

I dunno if you use @blocktrades, but they aren't trading steem right now, which is annoying.

I do use blocktrades, but I haven't tried to do anything with it lately since I have to wait seven days on the fiat to crypto end before I can even convert the crypto bought to STEEM. With all the volatility going on over the last week or so, it just seemed dumb to wait for seven days to do anything about it.

124 years ago we had an early spring. Some days are special. 3-19-20 Early-ist spring in the last 124 days, what an auspicious day to start a new chain, may it last for 124 years also.

One thing about the corona virus I have not heard about, (I actually don't pay close attention to the news), but no Corona Parties like for measles. The herd will never grow stronger, this strain will be around like all the flu strains of the past, for some time to come. Not a single year goes by that the flu does not kill a lot of people, but the media ignores that simple little fact.

I do feel sorry for everyone caught up in the trap of Fear Response, and that is a boat load and a half of people.

Pneumonia is the #1 most common reason for US children to be hospitalized. 4. For US adults, pneumonia is the most common cause of hospital admissions other than women giving birth. About 1 million adults in the US seek care in a hospital due to pneumonia every year, and 50,000 die from this disease.

I've had Pneumonia oh probably 5 or 6 times in my life. The above is just a simple google search for the year 2018. 50,000 people died from one cause that is treatable in the united states, was that a pandemic? Most of the deaths from corona virus are pneumonia. Pneumonia can be caused by a bacteria, a fungus or a viral infection.

Hyping the number of deaths from corona virus would not be hard at all.

But on a happier note, welcome to Hive Block Chain. Just when you get complacent in Life...Boom, bang, and a slap upside the head, hits you full force. Should be some fun and interesting times ahead.

Hey, @bashadow.

I was kind of thinking they should have waited a few more days—I think the fourth anniversary of the initial STEEM blockchain launch is sometime next week—give the old proverbial thumb in the eye! Actually, I'm glad they didn't. This probably needed to happen sooner than later, and I'm not so anti-STEEM that it really affects me that much.

re: updates

Yeah. It's one of those things where making people hyper aware of it makes them hyper intense, too. We can't just seem to find even keel ways to go about things. We graze along thinking all is well and don't really get going until the stampede starts.

My hope is, for all concerned, is that at some point, we can all get back to our regular lives very soon. I don't need to be out of work over this, and people need to be smart and stay home if they're sick. I don't like mandates of this magnitude (even on the state level) and I don't like the precedent it sets, even for the public safety. People need to be way more responsible and accountable for themselves.

My concern is, since we've swapped conspiracy theories before, is that this is a precursor to something else—using an actual global threat (be it blown out of proportion or hyped up) to see just how submissive we really are. So far, we're pretty submissive, though I've ran into some grumblings, too.

Different officials were on the news just about an hour ago talking about how "Oregonians really need to take this corona virus seriously." Like, do they have any choice? You closed down schools, which means someone has to be around the kids for the next six weeks (can't be daycare centers if there's more than 25 people happening, and that wouldn't really work for kids over 7 anyway), they've closed down the bars and the restaurants unless you can provide some kind of take out or delivery service, and basically any other event or large scale gathering (including churches) are essentially shut down because of the 25 or less people mandate.

So, excuse me Governor Brown (yeah, she's related to the former Governor Brown of California), but I don't need your condescending attitude. I don't want to get sick, and I'm not really that keen on being around a bunch of people anyway, so I've kind of mastered this "social distancing" already.

Thing is, I've heard people in different places say we should do more, and it's like, what? Most people will experience a mild to severe head cold if they contract the virus and take proper care. I don't know. I do worry about my Dad who has health issues already. He doesn't need this. Last time I spoke with him though, he seemed to be doing okay keeping himself sequestered and venturing out only when needed. Kind of did that already. :)

You know, common sense.

My wife is very concerned about it, I am not. We are limiting ourselves to once a week shopping trips on Sunday and hit the grocery store before 2pm and it is very slow there. We may skip this week, and do bi-weekly shopping for a month, not sure, neither one of us can stay indoors with out going somewhere every now and then.

Comet Atlas is on the way...okay here comes my conspiracy...It has brightened more than the scientist thought it would. Chinese are much or were much better at detecting things in space especially Comets, and they needed to frighten their population into accepting total control over their lives.

Some in America finally looked up at what had spooked the Chinese, (they after all know a lot about Comets), and saw what they were doing to get their people prepped for lock down, and control. So someone got to the president, let him know the truth about Comet Atlas.

It is not really a sun diving Comet, it an Earth bound Comet that has the potential to come close enough to break up and cause a lot of damage to the earth. Now the Government could not just come out and tell everyone to just kiss their asses goodbye, because there is a chance that some will survive the break-up or the spore release as in the Puppet Masters Movie.

Comets are believed to be plague carriers, so even though it will not hit nor even have any significant break up, it will pass close enough to heat the atmosphere, alter the rotational speed of the earth, causing massive earth quakes, tsunamis, and all kind of weather disrupting madness, it will also release new viruses upon the Earth. So by scaring everyone of viruses, we have all went and re-learned to wash our hands, to allow fevers to work their magic, and to stock pile food for thin times to come.

By the way Comet Atlas is real, is on it's way, and is expected to be visible possible in the day time. All that above was pure speculative garbage. Except the part about China and Comets, they have some of the oldest records of comets in the world.

Hey, @bashadow.

I'd read a little bit about the comet. Apparently it's pretty bright. :)

What I'm getting out of your conspiracy theory is that this coronavirus deal is actually a warm up, and it's a good thing, because Comet Atlas could bring more plagues upon us and if we all want to survive, we need to be ready. :)

I wonder if it's a male/female thing, where in general (not exclusively, obviously) more women are concerned while more men would appreciate it if they all left things the heck alone.

Self-limiting activity is one thing, and the way it should be. Having any governing authority tell us what to do, disrupting businesses and every other facet of daily life in the process, is another.

Okay things went bonkers for a few hopefully this is not a duplicate reply.

I don't think the government should be doing lock downs. They don't do lock downs for normal flu, which has caused more deaths, so why for this one? The CDC was wall aware of the number of deaths and number of infected people by the common flu, you would think they would have known how many test kits they would need, they have had since the of the out break plenty of time to prepare, but it was only a china issue, okay, like bird flu from china, like swine flu from china, like I don't know how many other flu's from china. So excuses are all we hear. So me I am not concerned with it, my actions are pretty much unchanged for flu preparation season. The media and the government have altered it by making it difficult for self prep/isolation, but still really nothing has changed for the flu season. Only the name, which changes every year anyway, and then the government saying oops wrong anti-viral shot but it will still help some.

Good to see you here @glenalbrethsen

You always have a refreshing and honest approach so if this platform is going to succeed it will need the likes of you here. I'd be interested to see how you find the engagement over the next couple of weeks since you are the engagement guru :)

Hey, @buggedout.

It's good to see you here, too. That makes me feel better about HIVE's chances if you're here to see how it goes. :)

I wish I was the engagement guru. I used to do pretty decent with it, but without the time, I've fallen way off. I think speaking my mind in as a civil way as I know how is still the best way, so if that serves as honest and refreshing, so be it. :)

Howdy sir Glen! I only know of one person who isn't going to Hive so your readership will probably be the same. What's the status of work?

Hey, @janton.

Oh, there's plenty of people who aren't going to HIVE for the moment—unless they either get their airdrop unsuspended or decide it's better to come here anyway than stick around solely on STEEM.

Plus, there are those who don't like the power the witnesses and whales have any more than they like Sun's power, so they're probably sticking around STEEM, too.
