SOLD

Wow that was a nice way to wake up. Like every morning I check my email and often I have a lot of mail that I throw in the virtual trash unread. This morning didn't seem to be much different ... but a feeling told me to open the email I wanted to click away. And there I suddenly saw something about "Work sold"

Wait a minute, only half awake I decided to quickly get a cup of tea and then read that mail again. After reading again I slowly realized that something I never expected more than had actually happened. I had sold a photo.

Sold a photo? But how? Reading a third time made me realize what had happened.

^{this message gives the information that one of my works has been bought by a customer from Eibergen, The Netherlands. And that the work will be placed in the office. Also that it is the first sale of this work and that the customer has found it through searching with Google.}

Back to where this started.

A few years ago I had posted some photos I made online for fun, at a Dutch website "Work on the Wall". The moment you place one or more photos here, these photos become available for sale. Work on the Wall ensures that the photos are printed on the material that the customer wants, ensures the delivery and the customer pays a basic price for that. You set the commission that you want to receive and that is placed on top of the basic price that the customer pays. So all you have to do is take that photo, upload it and set the commission. This goes in a percentage. Then it remains to be seen if and when someone buys your work.

Forgotten that I had posted photos.

Since I did this a few years ago, I honestly had long since forgotten that I had once posted photos here. And the emails I received from "Work on the Wall" always ended up unread in the trash. Until this time!

Haven't placed anything new for a very long time

It was a pleasant surprise to me that someone had bought a work from me. And for the few photos that I had uploaded, it is actually not that bad, especially when you consider that I have not placed anything new in 'my virtual shop' for a long time.

Now what?

What it did to me is mainly to give a boost. A boost in my creativity, and finally a token of appreciation, the feeling that in the end I may not be doing so wrong. It also makes me want to go out again, take new photos, and then maybe take more conscious pictures with the idea that it has to be 'salable'. No from the sale of this one photo I really did not make a shitload of money, but if I can ensure that more photos are sold ... which will only succeed if I go out more and take more conscious photos. Then it might be a lot of fun. So yes, that is a new goal. But a goal that I can pursue with pleasure to achieve it.

Because photography is and remains the thing I like to do most of all.

This is the 'lucky' one

The photo above is the photo that is sold. And this photo will soon hang in an office in Eibergen on a 90 x 60 cm canvas. It is funny to know that we also have this photo hanging on a canvas. Only then a size bigger.

Photo taken in 2015, I guess time for an update / upgrade

The photo was taken in 2015, during one of my evening walks with the dogs. It is a place where I still walk almost every day, and maybe I should take some new pictures soon. We are a few years further, my way of looking, photography has changed again and the new insights that I have learned in the years since this photo certainly benefit a possible new photo from the same location.

Now get going with photography again since COVID-19 has stopped this completely

Of course I also have a different camera and a different lens. Which, of course, will not deteriorate the quality. So all in all ... I was happy with the boost I got from the email that gave me this message. Now find some nice locations ... and then be more consciously taking pictures again. Because the COVID-19 crisis has also completely stopped this.
