RE: A typical South African flower nursery!

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

Our flower nurseries are also not only offering plants and flowers anymore. They have sculptures and other pieces of art or antiques between the flowers which are sometimes also very exotic ones. They look as nice and interesting as the nursery which you have visited.

I also like this little elephant and I'm not surprised that someone who shoots birds in flight like you would be able to take a photo of a bee in flight 😉

It seems to be an international trend to include all types of artworks in between the patches of flowers on sale.
We went to a farm a while ago, where the owner is an artist that makes huge statues of animals and other things and he placed them all over on his farm. Beautiful statues made of bronze and other metals.
I did post about the visit.

Yeah that is a cute Elephant and I blame all of the shots on my dragonfly training hahaha.
But thank you for the compliment!

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, I think so too. I have first seen such in a flower nursery in Salzburg where we bought flowers for Valentine's Day some years ago, and then I noticed it in our flower shops too. I think that's a great idea what they are doing. It makes flower shopping more interesting, at least for me 😁

I think I have said it before and I say it again, I have to practice shooting birds in flight before I can even think of photographing insects in flight - you train with dragonflies, wow 👍😄

Good evening Hannes, hope your Friday is good thus far?

A great concept to combine art and florals, as it also draws clients in other fields.
Problem here is the things are a bit expensive hahaha.
Good that they are else our garden will be full of little Elephants lol.

Ah! The training in shooting dragonflies was only when I started in photography, as a wise man told me that if I could get it right with the small things, then it would be much easier to shoot the bigger ones.
And he was correct.

So, I would suggest that you rather start with the insects and as you progress, you will see that the bigger ones are easier.

Cheers and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

I finished earlier in the office today and after lunch I rode to my parents. It was so hot that I even sweat while I was riding.
And it was much too hot for a walk or a hike. So I spent the afternoon in the shadow and took a few macros of flowers.

I have already seen that you have spent your day with your wife and a sea lion 😊

I know, and you have told me that before, but I will have to force myself shooting flying insects, but I am just too lazy - flowers don't fly and waterfalls don't move neither, that's much easier 😁

Hahaha, okay Hannes you can ignore my question in your previous reply as nowcI knowwhat you did today.
You always make me happy when you visit your parents!

Wow, sweating on a bike means high degrees of sunlight my friend and shade is indeed the best place to be.
During the very hot summers here, I also jump from tree to tree like a monkey to stay in the shade hahaha.

Now, now, you will have to shake that lazy habit of yours young man.
Taking photos of static things is good, but the challenges with moving things are even greater hahahah.

Cheers and thanks!

I answered anyway 😁

So I make you happy when I visit my parents? Cool 😄

Yes, it was very hot.

I know, and maybe I leave the laziness in the house tomorrow morning 😉

Hahaha, I saw your answer lol. Very polite and thanks!

I bet your parents was also happy to see you!

Tomorrow is Saturday, weekend, a time for laziness hahaha.
But when you are in full time weekly employment, then weekends always offer an escape into the wild blue yonder lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, my parents are always happy when one of us kids comes for a visit 😄
My younger sister lives only 10 kilometres away and comes every Saturday, but us three others, we live further away.

Today is going to be hot again, there's no cloud on the sky. So I'll do some macros in the morning and maybe I go for a ride later.

I wish you a great day, Zac 😄 and hope you feel completely well again.

Great that your sister is regularly with them Hannes.

We are also having a clear day of about 22C and will most likely just go for a short walk somewhere.
You also seem to have an enjoyable day planned and I wish you well with the macros and the ride.

Thank you for the great wishes and yes, it seems that the change in the tablet times have worked my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

I made that ride before lunch and didn't do much more than a nap in the shadow in the afternoon, but it was too hot anyway, even for sleeping in the shadow 😉

Your doctor seems to know what he's doing. I'm glad you are feeling better 😀

Well at least you made a ride and rest is always a good thing.

Ha, the doctor is a friend and I posted a while ago about the beautiful painting that his wife made for his 50th birthday. It was actually Marian's suggestion that I should drop the morning blood pressure tablets and rather take them in the evening before I sleep.
Worked like a bomb, as 2 nights now thus far with no awakenings in a sweat, so I just cleared it with the doctor and he confirmed the idea.

Thank you for the care my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

The idea your wife had was great and if she hadn't suggested it you might still feel bad and also your nights would still be like you told be before.
So, sometimes we should listen to our wifes, because sometimes they are right 😉

Hahaha, here we go again, "sometimes you have to listen to your wife".
I think that this is the most difficult thing to do for all men in the world Hannes.
We are forever on our men planets and the wife's voice is just a drone in the background hahaha

You know, when you play a radio in the backround while you are working on the PC and every now and then an interesting word draws your attention hahaha. Normally to do with food or something else that I cannot say here lol.

Only joking here, as yes, I do listen to my wife. Sometimes lol.
And she was right, which always happens hahaha

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,
haha, good sayings about that background noise - I mostly listen to it when it's about food 😉

But like you I'm only joking, because we all know that our wifes are right ... most times 😁

Good evening Hannes,

I saw that our slackening off a bit last week had excellent results in the EL.
So well that I almost slipped out of the top 10 (Gulp), but you did well and I am happy lol.

Now to tell you the truth, I listen to my wife all of the time hahaha.
I have developed the perfect habit of actually giving her brief looks while she talks and I am typing, AND saying "um" and "ah" in constant replies to her. At times I even nod my head sagely.
So, she is happy and I am am happy hahaha. (Maybe she thinks I a bit daft lol)

Hope that you guys will have a good week!

Cheers and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

oh yes, both of us have fallen back, but as I said before, I don't mind at all. Actually, I thought I'd be even further down the list. I'm commenting less and keep everything a bit shorter. That way I can spend more time outside or on editing my photos.

I know such "him" and "aha" too. Quite a few times I have said "yes" to something my wife said and later she asked me when I want to do what I said yes to before, and I didn't even know what she meant 🤣

Wish you a great week too, Zac 🙂

Well, we didn't do badly at all and can certainly keep it up like this.
You are right as it gives us time for other things!
Just back now from shooting the moon, but it's not totally full yet.
Tomorrow and Tuesday is cloudy and raining at night, so I doubt that I will get anything.
Especially with both Jupiter and Mars close to the moon.
If you go outside now you will see them!

Hahaha, I think they know that we are not listening and I avoid the word "yes" at all costs.
They come out with "Darling you know, warra, warra, wara, warra, warra", and after many warra's when you have long ago lost interest, they slip in "oh, and I want pay a heap of money for a new something", "darling do you agree"? our women are very clever my friend!
Of course you say "yes" and it is just there where the fun starts later! Hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

I always wonder how the work on my desk can grow over the weekend ;) lol

Anyway, a new week has begun and when I look outside my office window I can only see dark rain clouds - it's pouring outside ⛈️
They say on Wednesday the sun will shine again, so I don't mind the rain and cooler weather at all 😉

Yes, I know they know, but they play the game with us 😁

After these replies I will not be online till the late afternoon I think,
so I wish you a great day, my friend ☺️

Good evening Hannes,
Maybe there's some fairies around that pile the work up when nobody is around lol.

Yeah, you are right as water is always needed. I am busy planting new cuttings from a bush that attracts the sunbirds and butterflies, so the rain will be good. It will start tonight they say.

A nation on their own my friend and so different from us hahaha.

It is now late afternoon already lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

normally I love fairies, I don't think I like these though 😉

... and it is still raining 🌧️ and no sun in sight 🌦️

I have seen your post - it will be a cool place for the birds and for the butterflies and for you 😊

Hi Hannes,

These are spiteful male fairies lol.

Also wet here now, so for a change the weatherman was correct. Tomorrow it will rain for the whole day. On Wednesday and Thursday no rain but cold.

Thank you and yes, we are trying to create our own little paradise of freedom here.
Pity our garden is small, about 15 x 5 meters, but on the other hand, it makes it easy to manage.
We have one Lemon tree and one Guava tree and I am planning to also plant 2 Olive trees.
Maybe also squeeze an Apple tree in somewhere.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

and it is still raining here ⛈️

Like you say, a smaller garden is easier to manage, but I believe it is going to look beautiful and will be a great and secure place for the birds 😀

Good mid-afternoon Hannes,

Same here today with the rain, thankfully not a storm.

I think when Spring arrives, in 3 weeks time, we will start to see some early results.
Although I still have to go and get some bordering "Rocket" plants.
Our Jasmine has now started flowering and I planted it near our bedroom window, as it is my favorite smell.

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,
I had to google what you mean with bordering "Rocket" plants 😉
Jasmine has a nice smell - I can understand why you planted it there 😊

Hi Hannes, we call them "Rocket" plants, as their flower stems grow straight up and the flower has the shape of a rocket. Red, yellow and orange plants.
Similar to the first pic in yesterday's post where the sunbird is sitting on.

Oh yeah, to me nothing beats that Jasmine smell 😄

Cheers and thanks!

They also had those flowers on the apple farm Hannes.
I got many birds on camera on the farm and I will see if I can find a picture in my files of the famous Malachite songbird to show you.
