Khmerican Family Abroad #23 π Monkey-B Has Grown π§
I was organizing files this morning and saw so many precious Monkey-B photos, I decided to share her growth through the years with you all.
Monkey-B, We Love You So Much
Β Β Monkey-B (@KidSisters) brings so much joy into our lives, and it is really hard to put into words how infectious her joy is.
Β Β We've been together as family for over 4 years, and all that time Monkey-B has helped us laugh the stress and problems away, and has more-or-less served as our Zen Guru.
Β Β I've never known another soul that has such a love for being alive and experiencing all life's challenges. She never ceases to amaze us, and I simply want to share some random memories we have of Monkey-B.
Β Β Monkey-B was born in November 2013, so there aren't any photos from that year, but @Sreypov got a camera in 2014 and began to document her daughter's growth.
2014
Β Β In 2014 I still hadn't met Sreypov yet, but I had already known her family members for over 4 years. There aren't many photos from 2014, but I tracked down what little we could get.
Β Β Just look at those cheeks, I so wish I could've been part of her life from the start.
2015
Β Β In 2015 @Sreypov took many Monkey-B photos, but our paths had still not crossed yet. I did know who she was by 2015, but I was in a relationship with someone else at that time, so the family never thought to set us up.
Β Β Already you can see her infectious smile and spunky nature. She really knows how to have fun under any circumstances.
2016
Β Β 2016 was the year we met and fell in love. The second picture is the first photo I ever took of Sakana.
Β Β At a remote fruit farm in Battambang, Cambodia, we discovered the farmer was too remote to get his produce to market before spoilage, so he let us pick and eat all the fruit we could manage.
Β Β Monkey-B ate over 2 kilos of fruit in one sitting, and I knew we had a champion on our hands.
2017
Β Β In 2017 we had a restaurant and school, and were eternally busy, but always found time for shenanigans and laughter.
Β Β One of the photos of Sakana is with fellow Hiver @ChrisInPhuket, a friend we met in Cambodia. There is also a picture of her with her first bicycle, absolutely elated.
2018
Β Β 2018 was a year of hardship; I lost my residency visa and work permit for Cambodia, as well as discovering we couldn't legally marry in Cambodia.
Β Β I spent 5 months in the USA working 14 hours a day to get funds to reunite our family and escape Cambodia to get married.
Β Β All the while Monkey-B made us laugh, taught us how to let go of stress, love a little more and make time for each other. I promised I would never let any government separate us ever again, not even for a day.
2019
Β Β 2019 was the year of Monkey-B's first flight, and we moved to Ecuador after briefly reuniting in Cambodia. We attempted immigration in Ecuador, but were scammed by our lawyer and fled to Suriname to stay united.
Β Β Through this rough time, Monkey-B was the crazy glue that held the family together and always made us laugh.
Β Β She loved Ecuador more than anyone else in the family, and we suspect due to the large amount of public parks and panaderΓas.
2020
Β Β 2020 is lockdown and indefinite school cancellation, with no online options or study packets offered from the Suriname public schools.
Β Β We are more recently on a 24-hour lockdown, only allowed outside for basic purchases, partially due to COVID-19 and partially due to political instability.
Β Β Who knows what the future holds, but in 2020 the key is to remain optimistic, and Monkey-B helps a lot with this.
Β Β She is not Hivin' on her her own yet, mostly due to being 6 years old, but she's recently committed herself to make some 3.Speak videos. Stay tuned...
We Love You Monkey-B
Β Β I know you see me, your Mom and SreyYuu working on our blogs all day, and you wish we had more time for play. We just want to let you know that we love you and better times are ahead.
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! ππ₯³π

What a great photo montage! Love these shots and learning more about your wonderful family! π
Thanks as always for your positive energy and words.
I sat down thinking it would be a quick and casual post, but it did certainly turn into a montage.
Monkey-B sure has grown and she is so cute!
She is a full-on big girl now, and sheβs been showing more and more interest in the kitchen.
Would you believe both of our daughters want to be chefs?
I can see why with the beautiful dishes your wife serves and there is so much love in her meals that I'm sure the girls are picking up that vibe and that it is wonderful to be able to serve people good food!
We miss our restaurant in Cambodia more than ever. Suriname just doesn't have all the ingredients we use on a regular basis. Even to get things like fenugreek seeds or hing, we have to go to Indian religious supply stores. I've now learned that Suriname-Indians mostly dislike Indian food, how bizarre.
I brought samosas once to school for a party, and Sakana's Indian teacher said it was the first samosa she ever enjoyed eating. Pretty soon SreyYuu will start learning Pov's meals, but for now she's uninterested in Indian cooking, says it's "too hard" and takes "too long."
πππππππ
She's a precious tiny soul! From a beautiful rounded-cheeks babygirl to a sassy (as in that photo with @sreypov on 2019π€£) fine and funny girllllll! π
How wonderful is to watch our kids grow. My babyboy had his 1st birthday yesterday and my heart melted at how much he has grown in a year and I never cease to fall in love more and more every day that passes. AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN ONE YEAR.
Imagine 6 years!!! my heart can't resist it. I love children. Congrats on that beautifuuuul familyy of yours. I know times are crazy at the moment but true strength lies on the heart. π
Thanks for the kind words. Our little Monkey brings so much laughter into our lives.
She seems to know laughter is the best medicine. We are so blessed to have two amazing daughters.
Give thanks @InnerBlocks.
