Taking advantage of resources - Recycling

We live in a consumer society. We buy everything we need and we throw everything we think we don't need, like plastic containers, glass containers, fabrics already used and any kind of paper.

Recycling is to convert products you don't need anymore in new products that can be used with a new purpose or convert them in raw material to be used in the fabrication of new articles like in the fabrication of toilet paper.

Recycling is very important for societies because if you don't do it we will have more garbage than the one we can tolerate, and this will cause a continuos damage to the planet.

Plastic is not a biodegradable material. It takes more than 200 years to degradate in the soils. Plastic bottles can be reused in the storing of products. In Venezuela very poor people go to the garbage dumps to collect plastics of all kind, glass and paper, and what they find they change for food or sell the products to the big factories to make toilet paper of any other material.

Many people in the world live collecting garbage to sell to big factories, and many people live with what they find in the dumps. I have a friend that recollect Mother Boards from old computers thrown to the dumps and he extracts the gold from them. It is very little gold, but added makes a considerable quantity of gold to sell.

At home we use the plastic soda bottles to store water. One lady told me that I was becoming mad, and one day the water dam broke and we lasted 2 weeks for the reparation to be done. I lived with all the water kept in these bottles while other people around suffer for the vital liquid. You can also use these bottles for cultivating tomatoes, and any other vegetable.

I keep frozen bottles in my freezer in case we have an electrical cut, so that I can keep meat and other foods in good state. We suffered a big cut 2 years ago, and it took the goverment long time to repair the plant we have in Guayana named Guri. The ice in the bottles kept intact for long. My food didn't damage at all and we were the only people around drinking cold water.

I take advantage of the containers of many products. I use Nuttela jars for storing salt, cocoa powder and sugar because ants don't enter there. I keep water in sodas bottles for any emergency use, and for storing food for difficult times. Let the imagination tell you what to do with garbage. When I prepare some sweets I like to share with my neighbors. The problem is that they never bring the containers back, so I decided to keep all the plastic containers of butter to give my friends some of my preparations. There so many things you can use to make your life more effective, you don't have to run to the shops to buy things that substitute what you have at home and that you intent to throw. Be practical and creative.

Remember that there are important things that invite people to recycle products , one of them is the preservation of the environment, but also many people benefit with the garbage of other, you save money, we don't destroy our forests cutting more trees than we need.
