Feeding during Lockdown

We had a 5 month lockdown and are currently in Stage 2, but this was no reason to sit at home.
There is always someone that is worse off no matter how bad we think our own situations are.
But no child or old person should suffer.

In a rich and fruitful land,
Babes reducd to misery,
Fed with cold and usurous hand"?

Can it be a song of joy?

It is a land of poverty"

The lady at the left is one of Papillon's board members.
Papillon supplied the funding and she took care of the feeding project.

IMG20200718WA0011.jpg

I don't like to say too much about these things, but no child should be allowed to go to bed hungry at night.
We can, or should all be doing something about it, as there is no excuse that can justify a child going hungry.

IMG20200827WA0007.jpg

Hahaha, I bet "Sunshine Margarine" never thought that their empty bucket would serve as a food dish for a child 😂

As soon as our @combination charity giveaway account performs to our expectations, Papillon will support 4 other local charities with the funding to expand their operations.
At the moment we do our best with what we have.

And That's All Friends!

I leave you with this;

What reveals a man is his behavior in time of hunger. African Proverb

No one in a land of plenty should go to bed hungry, appreciate all you do for the people feeling this pain daily.

Thank you for the kind words here Lady Joan.
That African Proverb is indeed a great truth and we so wish that it could reflect our societies today.
But the worldview is "Every man for himself", where it should be "Every man for everyone else"
But such is life!
Thank you standing by us through the years.

Blessings and thank you also for the tip!

Oh yeah and there's more moans and groans here as they have banned alcohol sales on weekends.
Priorities are all upside down my friend.

Such photos shouldn't be necessary or better said, such scenes shouldn't exist nowadays - nowhere on earth.

Totally agreed with you Hannes,

But in a country where 60% are unemployed what can one do, but to try and help.
Aids have also sown devastation and now the Covid is also trying it's best.
Every parent that passes away leaves behind defenseless children in the poor communities.

Cheers and thanks!

Oh yes, I know exactly how you meant Hannes,
This world really needs a wake up call, but as long as the money god rules nothing will be resolved.
We have many able bodied people here eager to find a job and one can only wonder how they feel if there are no jobs.

Thank you for the kind words.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,
I thank you.
Sadly, it's all about the money - it was that way and it will always be. I wonder what must happen that the people wake up.

I wish you a great day ☀️

Good afternoon again Hannes,

History is filled with the atrocities that our strive for money and power has created over the centuries, but still we travel on the same road.
Governments are all continually hammering on about the importance of their countries economy growth for what? Solely to empower the rich and to leave less for the poor.
Yet at election time the masses step up and vote for the same systems to continue.

If anyone comes up with an alternative they are derided and character assassinated in order to protect the same old.
Such is life!

Hope that you are also having a good day my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,

I had a long and busy day and it is still raining.

The big political parties have grown over so many years and have a lot of power. Even if there are many small parties which would want to change the system they are too small and although some would have good plans the people don't trust them ... no chances in my eyes. And who says that they wouldn't change their minds as soon as they smell the power.

Such is life, as you say.

Hi Hannes,

Someone has forgotten to close the taps somewhere, as it is still also raining here.

Exactly right and 100% correct Hannes.
But here's the news, the biggest political party was unseated here 20 years ago, by the people.
The song and dance was that we were now a new rainbow nation and that everyone will have freedom and fair support.
20 years later and we are in some real and serious trouble here now.
The smell of power corrupts totally!

Cheers and thanks!

... and it doesn't seem to stop pouring down 🌧️
Our big parties exist from the beginning of our democracy. Sometimes a new one comes ... and goes. All in all it's just like that.

Same here but the good thing is that everyone is happy about the water.
Our drought situation only ended last year and some areas up north are still in a drought situation.

Oh yeah and as they come and go, the things still stay the same, or it becomes gradually worse.

Cheers and thanks!

Hahaha, we are now officially open in Spring as the 1st of September is Spring day over here Hannes.
So we open the day with cold snow on the mountains, but thankfully no rain today.

Also saw my first squirrel carrying her baby today to a different place. A small pink little thing in the mother's mouth. Sad thing is that the squirrel mom is destroying the sunbirds nest by stealing all of the fluff from it.
So I scared her away to go and find fluff somewhere else lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Well, the rain has stopped here too, but it has become a bit colder.

The squirrel will have searched and found another nest 😉

Good at least that the rain has stopped Hannes,

You won't believe how I had to chase that mom squirrel around this afternoon.
She went to the sunbird's nest and started stealing the white fluff in their nest. I could hear a little sunbird baby tweeting in the nest.
So I knew that the squirrel would return to get more fluff and as she came down from the tree I was waiting for her. She jumped back into the tree and tried to get down on the other side, but I was also there waiting for her.
She went back up and the two little sunbird parents were anxiously flying all around her.
Eventually I stepped back a bit and she rushed down in a hurry and as soon as she hit the ground I rushed at her.
She dashed off in a great hurry and she hasn't been back to the tree again.

Here she is with the stolen goods in the sunbird tree!

418.JPG

She stole so much fluff that she looks like Santa Claus!

Tomorrow morning, very early I will be waiting for her under the tree, but I don't think that she will return!

Cheers and thanks!

Oh, I would have loved to see that movie "The Giant and the Squirrel" 😁

Maybe you should have offered her some old cotton wool or so and you would have become friends. Now she will tell her children to take care of the giant in that garden ;)

But she looks so cool and she only wants to care for her own child 😉

Hahaha, you are so funny.
Guess what? She hasn't been back and Marian has put some cotton wool down in the front garden early this morning.
I rather hope that she will tell her children not to go near that tree lol.

Yes, she wants to care for her child, but she is killing someone else's child doing it.
So I will not let that happen lol.

Cheers and thanks!

She will tell her children not to go to this tree, because there's a big giant who is hungry and loves to eat squirrels 😁

So your wife has had the same idea as I had? Cool 🤗

It's good if you try to help both of them 😃

Hahaha, I hope that she will also tell them that if they behave , then they can come and get free nuts here in the garden lol.

Yeah, you and my wife are the brainy ones and I am just the squirrel chaser lol.

That's why I am trying to teach them fairness lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Hahaha, shhhhheesh Hannes. A squirrel might peep over my shoulder to see this and the title will be spread through the animal community lol.

The mother is Squirry's child from last season. She had four girls and two boys, so the other 3 girls are also somewhere with their babies. Soon we will have a menagerie of new young ones here lol.

Cheers and thanks!

I can go and find the nest Hannes, just to get a picture of the small one, but I would rather not.
The mom might become disturbed and disappear with the baby.
So I will wait to see its first appearance here.

Hahaha, nature is nature my friend.
Marian was saying that mankind has learned from nature how to bully the weak, just because the squirrel mom is much bigger than the tiny songbirds lol.
But maybe she has a valid point here???

Cheers and thanks!

Oh no, don't disturb them. She might even leave the baby back. Cats do that sometimes when you don't leave their babies alone with her in the first days.

Yes, I think she is right. I just need to remember my school time - I'm not that tall as you might remember, but I have always had taller friends and was good in boxing, so they bullied me only once 😉

Oh yes, glad that you know that I don't want her to abandon the baby.

I had the misfortune of being one of the shortest guys in primary school and so was bullied very often. So my mom sought help and she registered me in the YMCA boxing club. Best thing she ever did, as I stayed there for 12 years. Of course in my first year of high school I started to grow exponentially in height and all of the erstwhile bullies began to hide away from me. But I did get hold of a few and warmed them up a little bit hahahah.
Such is life my friend, what goes around, comes around!

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Hannes,

A short story here for ya!

Well what happened was that a bunch of smaller guys started to follow me around, as when the bullies saw that I was near then they would leave them alone.
There was one very nasty big and fat guy that was the worst. He was in high school in standard 8 and I was at the end of standard 5.

My mom used to send me to the shop to go and buy bread and milk and I always walked on a long detour to avoid his house, but for some reason on this day I took a short cut back from the shop and walked past his house. Well this guy rushed out and started slapping me. I started boxing in standard 3, so I could duck and dive to avoid most of his slaps. I dropped the glass bottle of milk in the process and it broke, so I knew that I was due for a hiding from my mom and in my anger I let this guy have it with a few punches.

Obviously the punches hurt him and he started backing off, which he shouldn't have done, as I was then on top of him like a wasp. Down he went, but I didn't let up and jumped on top of him flailing away with my fists.
His mom rushed out and grabbed me by my ear, putting one of her long nails right through my ear.

To cut a long story short, First my mom went to their house and scared the bejesus out of his mom and when my mom returned I got my hiding for breaking the milk.
But it was worth it, as that guy never came near me again and I could walk in freedom past his house.

Cheers and thanks!

I was reading and have seen a little movie in my head - great entertainment 😃

Hahaha, thank you Hannes,

I have for many years had the idea of writing a book, but for a variety of reasons that increased over time, never got do doing it.
At some stage in my life I was a prolific writer, keeping daily journals and I had boxes full of completed stationary A4 books, but over the years things changed and I gradually stopped writing. I think that life just became so much busier, especially the last 20 years of charity work.
Maybe the time will come, as who knows.

Glad that when you read you can also visualize a movie scene in your head hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Thank you for the kind words here Lady Lizzie.
We are not supported by the government for many years now, but this does not stop us from doing our work.
Every year they demand stringent and accurate annual reports and financials from us, but they have never done anything for us. I am even toying with the idea of deregistering us here and seeking registration in the USA as a (501) charity.

We simply have to help and things are getting worse every day.

Blessings!
