visiting local swamp, part 2 - blueberries and more

(Edited)

I continue my report on visiting the local swamp. (Part one is here). Less Russula photos today, and more berries! -- cause it was the purpose of my trip, actually.

bogs_02.jpg

So, our local swamp - it does not look like the Grimpen Bog, it is quite passable. There are no dangerous ominous bogs here - just a huge cushion of moss lying in a wet lowland. In some places there are trees, mainly pines. And blueberry bushes. The inhabitants of our village go to this swamp to pick berries, their main goal is cranberries, which ripen much later. You can also collect cloudberries in this swamp, but I did not find the location where it grows. The terrain is very monotonous, and if there is no sun in the sky, it is easy to lose orientation and get lost.

I saw fabric and polyethylene stripes hanging on the trees - the locals insure their hikes into the depths of the swamp, leaving signs along which they can find the way back. But I did not go deep into the swamp, I entered into the forest for 30-40 meters, and then walked on through the swamp parallel to the road, without losing sight of the forest edge. I found there everything I was searching: both berries and mushrooms... and a good sightseeing, of course. Perhaps next time I will stock up on material for creating "signs" and also go deeper into the depths, out of interest to see what is there. But I think it will be all the same to that I already saw.

A lot of dead wood lying around -- but almost no common wooden fungi on them.

This is a typical grassy and mossy lawn -- a wet and soft pillow of moss, actually. I managed to climb onto a large fallen pine trunk to take a panoramic photo; my Canon 16-35mm wide-angle lens helped - they did the job and captured the entire landscape I needed to fit. Excellent focal range for tourist applications! Besides that, it is a high-aperture. Top lens, though it isnt cheap. I borrowed two lens with me for that trip, the second one - Tamron 60mm - I used to get the macros of the mushrooms.

Ok, now a little macros part that I shot with the said Tamron lens.

Those berries macros give me cosmic associations... planets... Neptune?

The cranberry becomes crimson-red, when matured (not yet).

bogs_38.jpg

Cranberry bushes are just strings with leaves entangled in moss. It's amazing how such huge berries can grow on them. Not nearly as impressive as blueberries.

Among the rare stuff -- I met a sundew! Predator plant that hunts for small insects. If you are a small insect - beware, when passing it! Otherwise it is of no danger for humans.

:P

IMG_1359w.jpg

This is a tiny plant, and I only accidentally noticed it in the jungle of moss, crawling on all fours with a macro lens. I dug it up and took it home to take better photos in good light ... but there is still no good light - just rain, rain all day.

The smallest Russula with yellow cap, I found duting the trip, under the aspen leaf veil.

Ok -- this is the end, the fruitful finish of my post. I came back home with non-empty busket of Russulae, 2 litres of blueberries... and a solid folder of .raw photos! Both of my weared-out camera batteries have died, or I would took much more pics, hehe. Cheers!

That looks like a paradise for macro photographers. I bet there are lots of nice insects too, dragonflies and damselflies and butterflies and...

I wish you a wonderful Sunday, @qwerrie 🌞

Haha, I believe you, of course 😉
But that's it, you are fixated on mushrooms, my friend, and with "you are" I mean me too, because it's the same with me.
When I'm in search for something I often don't see other things, like in this photo where I have photographed a little baby tree - I know the image is small, but can you see who is the actual star in this photo?...

I wish you a wonderful Sunday, my friend ☀️

Thanks a lot for the !BEER - cheers 🍻

I know, you mean it might be mosquito.. but me thinks it is the BOKEH, who is the main star of this pic :)

Yes, I meant the mosquito which I haven't seen when I took the photo, but yes, the bokeh is nice too, but I like the mosquito more, because it made a short rest ecactly on this place in front of a bright bokeh spot like a spotlight 😁

That looks like a paradise for macro photographers.

but you are rather correct, maybe not from the point of biodivercity: it is not a dark forest, so -- the area is lit with more or less light... which is the key for macro.

Hey, you said I'm correct, even if you used the word "rather" 😁
Now the rain can come and I don't care about it, because you made me happy @qwerrie 😊

Have one more !BEER from me to thank you 🍻

wow! that was an amusing statement :)))))
