Latest Crush

Way back in the early 2000's i was loaned out to a big resort that needed cover so they could continue to conduct Scuba Courses. @scubahead to the rescue.

While at the resort one day i bumped into a very attractive Jamaican girl. I literally bumped into her. Lost on this huge resort trying to locate the compressor room ( which they'd put as far as humanly possible from the dive shop) I walked around a corner and boom nearly knocked over this lovely little lady. She was dressed super smart in skirt and jacket and looked every inch the Manager that she turned out to be. Public Relations Manager as it happens.

I stood back and apologised and then realising just how lovely she was I told her so and mentioned how nice she looked. We briefly chatted and she assumed I was a tourist that was on the resort in a wetsuit fresh from diving and we went on our separate ways.

A day or so later I saw her across the way and she was waving in my direction. I looked around and behind me and realised she was indeed waving at me. She beckoned me over and I walked over to speak to her. I was a bit lost for words and not as cock sure of myself as I was on our first encounter but managed to have a chat and she said she realised I wasn't a tourist this time from the way I was going about my day on that particular day. We chatted and I found myself really drawn to her as she was in every way just perfect.

We started to arrange to meet for breakfast and lunch on the resort and got to know each other better. Met for coffee on the resort whenever we could find a moment and quickly realised we really liked each other.

We dated a little but at that time I'd spend half the year in Zanzibar and half in Jamaica doing relief scuba management in Zanzibar and covering stuff for my friends Dive shops in Jamaica, summers jamaica, winters ( their summer) Zanzibar. So I ended up going back to Zanzibar.
When I returned 8 months later I was very sad to find she was in a relationship as which was bound to happen as we never really cemented our friendship in any set way. Ah well I thought thats life I suppose. We still talked a lot and met up occasionally for dinner as we were good friends.

This went on for a while and on my next Zanzibar working cycle I thought, you know enough of this back and forth I am heading back to Jamaica permanently. Which several months later i did. Once I was back in Jamaica and the occasion presented itself we met for dinner and I decided to let her know how I felt. So I bravely bared my soul and told her how I felt about her. At this time we both realised something about us but she'd just made the commitment to leave her managers job at the hotel she was working on and go to the Netherlands to study international business. I was gutted for myself but happy she was deciding to try and break out of what she was doing to do something for herself. We actually both laughed about how i'd finally decided to show how serious I really was and return to Jamaica and now she was off to Europe, bloody typical!

So shortly after there I was in Jamaica and she had left for Europe. Life continued.

Several months later I was on a trip back to the UK and my old boss from Zanzibar contacted me and said he'd love for me to come and help him finish setting up the lodge he was opening in Mozambique and needed my help with the diving part. Having nothing now committing me to being in jamaica I worked it out so i could help my friend with his project in Mozambique.

So finding myself now on an island off the coast of Mozambique setting up the diving on the lodge i had alot of thinking time in the evenings and I kept wondering how my crush was getting on in Holland so i messaged her and we ended up chatting to the early hours pretty much every night.

Now I'd been on the island now for several months and my birthday was coming up so I hatched a cunning plan. I organised time off from work and flights back to the UK. I spoke with my crush and suggested that maybe I come over and we go do some traveling and go somewhere that neither of us had ever been to and have a bit of an adventure together. She readily agreed and after a few conversations about destination we settled on Prague.

So I flew from Benguerra island to Vilancoulos, Mozambique then to Johannesburg. From there to Dubai and then on to Birmingham, UK. Then to Holland to meet up with my crush.

A fewday we both flew to Prague.

Looking back on it there was so much unspoken communication between us. It was like we both understood exactly what was going on between us. We had a great little apartment in Prague for the days that we were there and spent our time together exploring but just really happy to finally be together in a way that was really just about us.

Now many people have asked about how I did this but it's kind of really hard to explain. I never really used the words as people always tend to do or pop the question but there we were in Prague together and it was just this complete understanding that yes, we are getting married as we aint letting this slip away after all the years of not managing to find a way to be together.
