The Trials of On-Boarding for the Urban Exploration Community

avatar
(Edited)

Today I posted on Facebook; this is something I am doing less and less as time goes by. On-Boarding is a pain in the arse. Everyone is so content with their little empires on Zuckerburgs' Behemoth and they don't want to move.

You have to dangle the carrot, but don't let them take a large bite or suggest there are basketfuls because it's not true.

I will see tomorrow what becomes of my regular post, which is suffixed with over 400 words of trying to promote HIVE and my Urban Exploration community.

Speaking of the Urban Exploration Community, it had been a success in the numbers of members, but not so in the numbers of posts. This little niggle is what I want to correct.

I am in a position to support a reasonable number of decent posts but the posts first need to materialize.

So to cut the chase, this is what I posted (below). I am a moderator of this group and my Urbex buddy, @dizzydiscovery who will eventually start posting is the owner.

It's a good place to place my shill, is it a shill?.., as it can't and won't be deleted. I'm sure some will think I am trying to con them and I will be happy if just a couple bite.

Would you believe me if I told you there was another platform besides Facebook that would reward you for posting each and every one of your Urban Exploration photography and stories?

Every time you post content, you would receive tokens that have a real value in British Sterling. This is not toy money, it's real and I can personally transfer the rewards I receive and have money sitting in my bank account within 15 minutes.

It's not a get rich quick scheme, and I will not benefit from you joining though of course, I do have my reasons why I want you to join me.

It's also not a Ponzi scheme, so free your suspicious minds and understand that not every bastard is trying to reel you in and rip you off.

Everyone seems to expect miracles; I am offering you more than a big fat nothing for your content, that’s all.

Look at it as a greyscale, not black and white. There are no instant-rich schemes; they are all a load of shit and lies.

It won’t cost your anything; you get out of it what you put in, and if you put in nothing but your content, then you will still get something more than what Facebook gives you now.

What you will enter is something quite alien if you are used to Facebook which seems overly-complex. There is a small Urban Exploration community there, which I am the administrator for.

I can help you get started and ensure you don't do the wrong things. When there is money involved, people can get tetchy.

You can’t get banned, you can swear as much as you want and nobody will kick you out as nobody has that authority.

Your content will never be removed as there is no general central administration; there is no censorship.

You can keep putting your content on Facebook and place it in this new place as well; no need to give up what you are comfortable with.

I will leave it at that; the carrot is dangling. Are you going to bite, or do you think I'm trying to rip you off? If so, then keep scrolling, I won't try and convince you.

If you would like an account, then send me a private message with a username of your choice. It’s usually not free to get an account, or if it is there is a wait. I can do it instantly.

If nobody bites then at least @dizzydiscovery now has an account, has left a couple of comments and has promised me that some YouTube content will be arriving on HIVE soon.

image.png

It's always good if the administrator of a Facebook Urbex group can help promote HIVE. We will have to see what becomes of this. Two more would almost double the credible content creators.

@dizzydiscovery creates video content that will compliment my stuff well. He tells me these videos take hours to edit. I will stick with the photographs and story thanks!

RedLine.png

Do you like posting your Urbex content and photography for FREE on Facebook and YouTube? I like to get some form of reward for my work and every time I create I do just that. Take a look at The Urbex Community on HIVE.

If you want to keep creating for FREE then ignore what you are reading. If you want to be like me and gain something other than BUGGER ALL for your work then click here and learn about posting on the HIVE blockchain.

I hope some see the light and at least give it a go. You would think they would welcome something new to explore, especially as FB is getting more restrictive all the time. Given my hit rate of converting people to Hive, I can't say I'm a good example. I only have a small audience and I've posted enough about it to bore them. Don't want to lose friends over it.

Ditto. Friends just look at me funny if I even start.

Even the fact that I can show them I have made thousands, that have bought me guitars and foreign trips, is not enough to persuade them. What more can I do?

We need more pioneers to take a chance on Hive. If we can reach critical mass then it may seem more attractive.

yeah, critical mass is the key.

Wow, I don't think I've made a foreign trip out of HIVE, but I guess maybe if I powered it all down - I'm not that great at the whole making cash here!

I had to power down some to pay for trips to Steemfest, but it was worth it. The Steem price was better then anyway. For now I just want to power up. Lockdown means there is less to spend on.

I think @dizzydiscovery will do some. I was talking to him earlier and he's not confident about writing. He dug out my old Steemit intro post from years ago and told me, 'I can't write like you'.

Bollocks, I said, just do your videos with an accompaniment of 100 words, and that will work. He spends literally hours editing his video content, I hope someone will watch it.

Video can be more popular than written words. There's an audience for it.

I think there is, he's still learning how to do it, but that's the same for all of us.

Great carrot. I've pretty much given up promoting on Facebook... no one cares! Sob.

I tell you it's hard work. I try and then give up for months, and then try again. The only person I got on was by direct contact. Was it luck that I chose the right one (@grindle) and he's stuck it out as well?

I have to mention @goblinknackers, though he's not a UX writer.

All we can do is try. It's probably the best time to do it, when the price is low.. When it's high things, including people expectations, go a bit nuts.

If it's someone I know, or are getting to know I can put all this across and they get just a little interested. Even the fact that it's ZERO vs HIVE doesnt seem to register.

...'you are getting monetary rewards for what you are doing now for FREE'...

If that doesn't work, then what the fuck does? Maybe a free dildo or rubber-dull (extra cheap version) depending on sex would sweeten the deal?

Haha, the problem I have found is the money itself. They behave just like loads of the people who do despite all you tell them. I had one friend who stuck it out longer than the rest, he got hit by curie three or four times in his posting but it didn't actually make him post more, if anything it depressed him then when his other posts that didn't get curie'd made hardly anything. He eventually got disheartened and chucked it. It's a hard sell.

In fact sometimes I think that's the problem, if you have to push out they won't last, if you dangle a taste then they might come of their own accord and stick it. You never know.

Good luck!

Sigh, nothing yet.. I have sent that post to 7 Facebook communities, some have accepted it.. none have declined yet. It's all about numbers and whether anyone can be arsed to read those 400 words.

Why do people expect miracles and instant recognition? Are we some kind of breed that are tolerant of seeing $0.00's when we start, ignore them and carry on.

Not that $0.00 posts exist anymore unless you are a really shit writer.

I think it means we actually are special, lol. Most others really can't be bothered putting in some graft as it's just a silly pastime for them. Yet they actually do putgraft just don't realise it!

Just started following your friend. i do enjoy the urbex exploration post from you and others, so it will be nice to see the group grow. I have a small alt account that if any of your new users do show and need a small 25 HP delegation, i can provide four of them.

I pretty much do not use facebook, I do not like the big blocking sign up or in ad for facebook that will not go away so I just never look at face book stuff, either business or personal pages.

A persuasive and well balanced pitch. I'm curious to see whether some will bite. I just subscribed to your community to provide a bit of support here and there.

One little correction in the second paragraph is needed I guess:

you get would receive

Cheers!

Nobody yet, I shouldn't be too surprised. Even the thought of $2-$3 which is very achievable for a newbie is not enough to tempt them. One guy did respond and said that he does it for fun and not for the $$. I have to respect their opinions. It's not like this makes us rich or anything. Thanks for the support, I wish there was more to vote.

Fixed!, I am hopeless at proofreading my own work, Grammarly doesn't pick up on everything.

I think it sounds great. However this doesn't change the fact that they sign up process is still going to be far too complicated for your average FB user. Once they see all those posting / owner / active keys they run to the hills!

But i do think it is great you are at least trying man, good job.

It didn't get even one response, it sends me to despair at times. Why is this place so unattractive to the outsider?

Good luck and kudos for doing that. Facebook is a tough sell. People are in their little bubbles and they don't want to expand to anything that is new or not familiar to them. I tried to make a post on Facebook promoting my BOID team and I think I got zero likes and zero response. Of course, it did happen right before the big flood hit our area, so I think people were more concerned with that. I don't know if the results would have been any different had the flood not happened though.
