Monochrome Monday back to the Mayflower

Another post of shots of the Mayflower, this time going with all Mono shots for Monochrome Monday hosted by @oldguyphotos

Starting with a shot of the front of the ship, is that the Bow, I think so but could be wrong LOL

I should mention again This is not the original Mayflower but a replica, the original Mayflower

What happened to the original Mayflower? No one knows for sure what happened to the original Mayflower. The last record of the ship was an assessment of her value in 1624. After that, she disappeared from maritime record
In September 1620, a merchant ship called the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth, a port on the southern coast of England. Normally, the Mayflower’s cargo was wine and dry goods, but on this trip the ship carried passengers: 102 of them, all hoping to start a new life on the other side of the Atlantic. Nearly 40 of these passengers were Protestant Separatists–they called themselves “Saints”–who hoped to establish a new church in the New World. Today, we often refer to the colonists who crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower as “Pilgrims.”

After a grueling 10 weeks at sea, the Mayflower, with 102 passengers and a crew of about 30, reached America, dropping anchor near the tip of Cape Cod on November 11, 1620.

One thing I am always fascinated by with these old ships is the crows nest so of course i had to get shots of it, surrounded with all the ropes , I have been told there is literally miles of ropes on these old ships

I actually love the mono shots better than the color! The color is stunning, but, distract me from the finer details of it! The bow is definitely the front of the ship and the stern is the very back.

You really did an amazing job covering the Mayflower. I had a hard time photographing the tall ships, but, I bet I had the wrong lens. I happened upon them in a harbor on the Eastern Shore and didn't know they would be there.

These are awesome shots! I am so glad to see you back in action!

Nice photos of an icon once again.

I did look into the original Mayflower. It returned to England in 1621 from Plymouth and took one more cargo run under the Master Jones who owned a quarter of the vessel. He died in May 1622 and the last known reference was in probate of his estate in 1624. The ship was said to be in ruins and was probably scrapped.

In 1920 a guy wrote a book about the Mayflower Barn in England that was said to be made from the timbers of the Mayflower. That claim has been pretty well debunked but the barn is still a tourist stop.

Now I know. Thanks for another great post!

Oh, how pretty the Mayflower looks in monochromatic colors! Just like in ancient times, especially with the dark clouds forming in the sky on the first photo! I have to show your article to a stacking sister, who really is into pirate silver and has an extensive silver collection with ship designs! Your photos are so clear and crisp!
Have a beautiful week ahead, my friend @tattoodjay, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

She's a magnificent replica and I love the angles. The ship looks great in monochrome.

I like the monochrome versions of the photos a lot. They suit better to such an old ship and add drama to the clouds and the overall image.

I think the black and white photos suit this very well! That is just a ton of rigging. I can't get over the number of ropes!
