Experiment failed [No-Poo] - not going back to regular shampoo though!

Not for me after all

I did not expect to say I quit going "No-poo" within a few months, but yet it has happened. I was already happy going through the transitioning phase (I wrote about it as well) and thought the worst was now behind me, at the time. I learned that one mistake using either apple cider vinegar or Dr. Bronner's too early (while not actually needed) and you're back to square one. I've been fantasizing about washing my hair with actual shampoo for weeks now, not because I want to go back to feeding my hair and scalp toxins, no, it's actually mostly because I want to get rid of the greasy hair and even worse: longlasting dandruff.

After getting myself a new brush, the dandruff thing seemed to have gone, but even with the clean brush, it came back, and now it has never left me either. I feel so dirty when I brush my hair seeing these white spots in my hair, it makes me sad that I spent 45 minutes in the shower to make sure everything has been washed out completely (soap and or vinegar) and then STILL find out it's not gone. What also annoys me like crazy is when the vinegar smell didn't actually rinse out well. I take my time, going through my hair step by step, not rushing it, showing it some love honestly, and then the results are to cry for.

I couldn't take it anymore, call me a quitter, so be it. I need to use another approach and probably first wean off my hair by using a shampoo that's less toxic. And take it from there.
With this all being said, I don't mean to say that all these approaches I've shared and/or tried are bad, because I do believe that they work but you need to find out for your hair what works best. I may not have tried the right natural ingredients or used the right amounts while otherwise, it would have turned out great.

Soon: The Curly Girl Method

New approach: I want to try out "The Curly Girl Method" in a while, but not right away. First, I will enjoy my hair washed with the shampoo and conditioner of the Naturebox product line, based on cold-pressed oils. I bought the shower gel (coconut) two weeks ago and was happy with it and that made me decide to check out their shampoo and conditioner line only to find out that their products are supported by the Curly Girl Method. Meaning if I'd go for the curly girl method, I could keep using this line.

I've used the Naturebox shampoo and conditioner twice now, and it's time to wash my hair again. The funny thing is, that after one (!!!) wash with these products my dandruff was washed out completely, imagine the product residue that was stuck in my hair and on my scalp. I feel so relieved that I made this decision, as now I finally don't have to wear my hair in a tail anymore (to cover up the greasiness and dandruff lol) but I can also choose to wear it loose which is nice.

After weeks of frustration, my hair feels like a million bucks again :)

Enjoy your weekend ;)

Sorry to hear this didn't work out for you, I haven't used shampoo in years now, but we are all different and we have got to discover what works best for us. I just used water, with no vinegar or soap. I can understand not wanting a dry scalp, perhaps the soap was not working for you, or perhaps you just need more oils. Time will tell. Well done for trying xx

Thanks for the reply @trucklife-family. I'm quite convinced the method can work perfectly, and even have witnessed from up close that only water is perfectly fine. Looks clean, smells clean as well, but it's the phase to get there that didn't work for me (at the moment). I also found out the water is quite hard on the hair here, because many others talk about failing this method because of the water (if not filtered), I'm defo not going back to the normal shampoo and not saying I will not get there at all (no-poo) it just didn't work out right now. I was super happy when my hair didn't feel dirty anymore, and was actually almost there, until I made a little mistake (or maybe two lol) and I was back to strike one. With the busy life atm and especially new job I didn't feel comfortable continuing atm.. better luck next time right :) Have a great weekend!

Look ya gotta feel like a hundred bucks! I switched to natural shampoo bars but they left a coating on my hair after a few weeks and it was a chore to brush my hair - it felt gross. I TRIED. And though the bars were convenient traveling, an ACV rinse wasnt. So i too have gone back to shampoo and conditioner BUT the paraben SLS free natural ones. No poo is poo. I gave up..

I feel ya! I TRIED as well. And I was determined let me tell you, but like you mentioned, it felt gross and it looked gross as soon as I took out the elastic (was constantly wearing a tail because of it). I was afraid to scratch my scalp when it was itching as that would cause visible dandruff, yuk! I was done with it. Now i have the cleanest hair ever and also the more natural shampoo, I've learned that there's good middle way as well :)

For now I'm sticking to this, but I may try the bar in the future or the curly girl method. Just because I'm curious .. Thanks for sharing your experience :)
