Let’s Make A Collage: Last of The Buffalo

My contribution to @shaka’s challenge, round 49 of #letsmakeacollage. Check Here for more information.

My collage represents the spirts of a Indian chief and a buffalo overlooking the few remaining buffalo left on earth after the animals were slaughtered unmercifully in the late 1800’s.

This relentless killing of the buffalo deprived the native Americans of an important food source.

“Between the Worlds’ is this week's template for building your collage is brought to you by community member @photoark.

I made the collage in photocollage and edited the symbols there.

The photo of the buffalo in sepia is one I took at Buffaloland not far from where I live on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The buffalo head I used from a photo I took of a young buffalo from the same herd.

Impressive collage Jo. It is such a sad story with the killing of the buffalo by the white man. What happens to the buffalo herd near your place?

Thanks Angie. 💞. the buffalo herd near me is doing great. The Buddhist women look after it and the herd looks good. They don’t cull the herd for the meat to keep it under control , like previous, and the herd is getting bigger with the new calves.

The story is that they had a vet come in to tranquilizer and neuter the males and that way the herd would be controlled. Apparently there was one male that couldn’t be tranquilizer and he is having a great time by the looks of the addition of new babies. 😀

Hahaha that is hilarious, lucky male buffalo. I am so pleased to hear the buffalo live in peace and harmony. I remember when I was in Italy we walked through a buffalo dairy where their mile was made into cheese. Interesting don't you think?

Oh, wow, do I love this. You capture the mystical connection First Peoples have with the land and the buffalo. Your collage is eloquent and moving.

Great job!

I like your collage and the theme you have chosen, Jo. It suits to the "Between the Worlds" template very well too I believe.

Our ancestors have done many bad things for which we are ashamed, and we too are doing things that our children will be ashamed of. Humanity will never be smarter, and I hope they prove that I am wrong.

Good morning Johann. I'm happy you liked the collage and the theme.😊

You are so right about the bad things that have been done in the past. We cannot understand and are ashamed of such cruelty to another human or to animals.

Thanks so much dear Johann for reblog, tip and your generosity.

Have a wonderful weekend.🤗

That came out beautifully Jo!! I remember seeing the photo of so many buffalo skulls taken way back then when the buffalo were being hunted to near distinction, it was very sad to see. How is the herd doing at Buffaloland and have they had any more calves born there? 💕

Thanks Dee.❤️ It is sad to think what happened to the gentle buffalo.

I noticed quite a few new calves in the field at Buffaloland. I will have to stop in and try to get some photos of the young ones.

Have a wonderful weekend Dee.😊

A collage art taking us to the past and summarizing the history in it. This reminded me of water buffalo slaughtering in the name of gods in Nepal and surprisingly it is still prevalent over there.

Good artwork! :D

You can also read this here and it is a shame :( https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/dec/02/worlds-largest-ritual-animal-slaughter-goes-ahead-despite-ban#:~:text=Hindu%20worshippers%20have%20begun%20killing,efforts%20to%20end%20the%20bloodshed.

Thanks! When I saw the template i thought of the how once the buffalo roamed there.

Wow @razeiv. It is indeed sad they are still doing that in Nepal. It is a terrible tradition and what kind of a god would want such a slaughter?

Exactly! It's a pity they are still living in ancient times.

Have a good day!

A very nice collage. I love the theme, and think you did a very nice job of adding them to the original image.

Thanks @bashadow. It’s still a work in progress trying to fit the symbols in the photo. I’m pleased you thought they were nice and you liked the theme.😊

Have a wonderful Sunday. ☀️
