DCity Card Analysis: Hospitals and Law Firms

avatar

Today I want to look at two cards that come with extra benefits: Hospitals and Law Firms.

A Hospital yields an extra +1% in population, plus has values 0-5-14-10 (population-income-popularity-workers) and a rarity of just 0.2% of 2nd Edition cards.

A Law Firm yields a 10% reduction in the current total tax rate, plus has values 0-10-2-10 and also a low probability of 0.5% of 2nd Edition cards.

If we look at their price charts, we can see that their scarcity gave them a value that upon wiser reflection neither possessed.

The Hospital's population boost is based on a city's "base population" and hence behaves rather like some extra popularity. Indeed, with the same income of 5 SIM, a Hospital is only marginally better than a Hive Sign. Current market prices reflect this, although few cards are on sale.

The Law Firm is slightly different. As with the Hospital, the special feature is only activated once per city; having 5 Law Firms will not get you a 50% reduction in taxation! Also note that this is 10% of the current rate, so if current taxation is 35% then you get a 3.5% discount, making it only 31.5%.

However, you can own more than one Law card and the standard parameters will all work as normal. With an income of 10 SIM and employing 10 workers, a Law Firm is in the same price bracket as, say, a Restaurant or Weed Dispensary, or even a Night Club. The lower popularity score may even be a benefit, depending on your social costs.

As we can see above, there are very few of either card in existence - and fewer than the daily number of active players. This obviously means that not every player has one. A Law Firm is certainly worth having if your main income is from daily SIMs. If you end up with multiple Law Firms from random card draws, then I'd keep them until their value is reflected in the market price. As for a Hospital... somewhat like antiquarian pottery, scarcity is not always commensurate with value.

The truth is that I am not clear on the usefulness of these cards and on what it is based to calculate a possible utility, if you can clarify your article a thousand thanks.
