Directional drilling implemented as an innovative technique for abandoned oil wells

When you drill and build an oil well you have to take into account that not only with the drilling of the well and the start of its production you have all the work guaranteed.

Many of these wells have a useful life in its production capacity, and that for some reason in the wear of its components is necessary to perform repair work in the future, these jobs are also called secondary and tertiary recovery work.

When the decision is made to re-enter an oil well, it is also made with the intention of modifying the production capacity of the producing reservoir through the injection of water vapor or other chemicals that would increase the production of the wells that are associated with the producing reservoir.

Now then I make all this introductory presentation because I am aware that your reader friend does not master all the oil process, however now that you are aware that it is a secondary or tertiary recovery work, let me tell you that there is a technology to increase between 50% to 200% the optimization capacity to perform these secondary recovery works and that they can give results to improve the production of the wells.

This technology consists of drilling the wells to be used for secondary recovery work in a directional manner.

One of the advantages of these directional wells is that they provide a greater drainage capacity in its production, another advantage is the cost savings, since this technique would represent a cost of 20% of the investment that requires a new well.

In general, I wanted to share this technique with you, being able to reflect on the fact that this technique of improved crude recovery allows to increase productivity having advantages over other methods of improved crude recovery such as fracking, by means of the hydraulic fracturing technique a series of chemicals are injected that are dissolved with the injection water that contaminate the surface aquifers.

To understand the magnitude of benefits of this technique I conclude by saying that wells that are considered abandoned can be produced by improving the conditions of the associated reservoir through the technique of directional well drilling.

Greetings, partner @carlos84, very good dynamics, colo raises us the planning and the risks that must be considered in the well, the use of the appropriate technology to reduce the risks.

Hello @newton666.

Certainly this technique minimizes risks compared to other enhanced oil recovery techniques such as hydraulic fracturing which is a highly criticized practice worldwide.
