Did some charity today. Hope it brings a smile on some faces

Since the lockdown, a lot has changed in how we live life. The most severely impacted are those who live on daily wages. A few days ago I was watching the news and came across a very sad story. Education has moved online and most students are attending classes through Google Classroom or Zoom meetings. However, it never struck me that how will kids of poor people, who cannot afford a cell phone, study in such a scenario. The news story I saw was extremely touching and heart-breaking. Kids are being left behind because the govt. simply did not take into account the financial hardships of many citizens.

Anyway, I and my wife decided to donate some old smartphone gathering dust to a charity. She also took out some clothes and shoes and some coloring tubes for kids. I searched for some charities online. I had earlier decided to do this as well but it was difficult to get hold of people earlier. Now, many charities have come into existence that are seeking all sorts of help, financial or non-financial donations, volunteer work and I was able to find Prayas Ek Koshish. Called them up and they quickly arranged for a drop-off.

I had to drive 20 minutes to get to the place and finally reached a dense area.

The building was this residential building called Suja Niketan. Waited 10 minutes there before 2 ladies came and took everything from me.

When I write about finance and business everyday, I kind of am mostly discussing or thinking about my own self. I wanted to pen down something about this very simple deed because I think most of us should go out and help those in need, during this time. It is unfortunate what has happened to the poor in India during the last 6 months. Out of work, out of shelter and food and they have nothing to gain from financial markets.

Survival for many people is extremely tough in a resource poor country such as India. The govt, even by giving free rice has to feed may be 800 million people and that also runs into billions. However, people, no matter which part of society they belong to, need more than just rice. Clothes, entertainment, security. I don't intend to lecture but I want everyone to do something similar this week. Take a break from crypto and work and sort out the unused clothes, shoes and find something you can donate. If your spending has reduced and savings have gone up, get a poor kid a $200 laptop or $100 smartphone. For many that may be their monthly curation rewards. Donate a month's worth of Author's rewards to charity and may be not power up for a day. I am myself going to start doing more to help people out in the coming months. Hope to see you join my efforts too.
