dailingUP : AI Blockchain Projects

Artificial intelligence may have no equal in terms of the impact it will have on human civilization. Thought technology expects to radically transform every aspect of the way we live. Given its potential impact, one might think that AI’s mysterious nature would be aggressively unveiled to allow the general public and investors to determine the fate of this technological transformation.

User Defined Logic

Public awareness has not kept pace with the speed of AI innovation. Maybe it’s because deep machine learning remains rather speculative. Another reason may be that too few people actually grasp the big picture. If this is the case, then efforts to develop an explainable-AI (user programmable interface) makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Support of decentralized applications. Imagine an AI that could tell a user specifically how it came to its conclusions. Imagine if the answers that the AI provided were instrumental in the alteration of its own fundamental programming merely through Q&A. Such advancements would be a profound asset for decentralized systems and human empowerment.

(For Data) Some Blockchain Adoption is Better than None

Blockchain-based data systems are inherently supportive of decentralized systems. Anytime shared ledgers can be used to secure private information while simultaneously mediating between participants, a system moves closer to decentralization. This should hold true even for limited-participation, corporate blockchains that would replace the traditionally isolated, server-based systems.

Promising Blockchain Projects

The information above is a continuation of the ideas presented in AI, Data, and the Case for Blockchain. The first article introduced the potential of AI when paired with a blockchain-based data stream. It was important to discuss decentralization before introducing AI-blockchains because of the underlying changes to the data flow.

Below you will find some of the more recognized AI-blockchain projects. A brief description / classification accompanies each.

Levels of Blockchain-AI Pairing

I believe the primary determinants of pairing blockchain technology with deep machine learning will be based, at least in part, on the following:

  • raw vs. organized data
  • number of independent interested parties
  • expected level of complex applications

The raw data factor. The objective here is to try and ascertain the overriding focus of AI projects that aggressively pursue blockchain technology. It'll be hard to discern which conventional AI projects will impact crypto the most. My guess would be that the projects which directly interact with raw data will be the most dedicated to innovate blockchain for their needs.

Preorganized data in AI. AI projects that target preorganized data will probably not need to innovate blockchain very much. While these AI projects may be revolutionary on the front end, their data use cases are probably already well-determined. For instance, an organization may just be seeking to bring order to an overabundance of localized and semi-organized data. Pairing AI with blockchain may simply become a professional nuance for many companies.

When blockchain is not a priority. Companies like Amazon, Alibaba, Google, Twitter and Facebook all have massive amounts of data already organized to fit their needs to some degree. And in the course of their operations they've developed ingenious ways to monetize their databases of other people’s data. Because Big Tech uses private databases to dictate community services, adopting a fully-decentralized blockchain for its applications may not be a priority.

However, limited-participation blockchains already garner a lot of attention from the corporate world. One useful application would be for easing top-level management efforts. Tasks like altering data to support a new election, making adjustments for seasonal campaigns, or any number of on-the-fly projects would fit in here.

Concluding (human-based) Thoughts

They're a lot more blockchain-based AI projects than crypto media has put in front of the public’s eye. Maybe AI-blockchains will become a topic of heated discussion in the near future. At the moment, you should easily be able to find several other projects with substantial backing just from a quick search. When all are taken together, and blockchain is leveraged, the world shall begin to realize its full potential as a global network of variously cultured people.

Questions for Discussion

Properly analyzing the AI market needs to include a proper categorization of each project’s potential. Here are some questions that I have yet to find satisfactory (or complete) answers to:

  • Is employing blockchain for an AI project always a better solution?
  • Where will a particular blockchain-based AI project end up?
  • How do AI-blockchains ultimately differ from non-blockchain AIs?
  • When does an AI project need blockchain the most?
  • Is there a significant benefit in adopting blockchain early in the development of an AI?
