Financial advice - Never let your family/friends be your target audience
Truth be told, the number one individual that will believe in your business, will surely be those you don't know about or those you know but not as friends. We have seen friends and family fails us when we thought they will be the first set of individuals that will push our business to an apex height.
I keep asking myself if this is jealousy or what. You know they might not be wishing for you to be progressing ahead of them. Some friends and family member are like that, they never want you to succeed.
The funniest thing is that before you start the business, you will see them applauding you and telling you they will support you. When you start and needs their support, they will deviate from you and never be there. The only time they will show up, is if they know that you are now successful and things are going well.
The kind of people that experience this hate very well are those into entertainment. I am referring to the upcoming artist. When you meet friend and family members to give feedback on your songs, base on the fact that you are upcoming, alot will criticise it behind your back, but if at the end, you got a good deal and become successful musician, they will want to crawl back into your life.
I know of an upcoming musician back then who uses to send me his song. I will end up doing mixtape for him. I never for once charge him. Today he is now signed to Mr P record label. He is a big boy currently, but sadly he forgot about me. He told me how Djs criticise his songs if he send it to them back then but today, they are playing his song for free.
When I started my djing work, people that knows me if they have show will go out and uses other person for their show, they never believe in me. While they were doing this, outsiders where giving me motivation by giving me different shows. Now that I am a recognise dj in my locality, my family members are now trying to use me so I can play at their event. You will see them begging me not to take any fee or sometimes make it cheaper for them. I will just collect it and assist them. I just can't pay bad with evil. When I think of all this act, I hardly blame those who will write a tag on their business wall that there is no credit selling to #family and friends, strictly business.
i. They will want to patronize your service for free: My mom had a little business she is managing. Do you know that the people that is very close to her i.e friends and neighbours, if they don't have money to buy what they want, they will come to meet her. She will ends up selling for them, but if they have money, they will start going to another store to buy things they need. Is this not wickedness? This shows that they are tying to crippled her business.
ii. They will never believe in you instead they will end up criticising you: You will think that when you start your business, they will be the first people to promote it. If you put hope on family and friends, you will fail. Funniest thing is that they will be the first to visit in some cases. The visit is Just to take a look at how your business is doing and makes you a laughing stock if the place is not up to standard. They will shower praises on you while with you,but deep inside them, they will make you a laughing stock. They will use the energy which they are suppose to use to promote your business to gossip about it in an attempt to bring you and your business down.
iii. When you need financial help, count them out: When your business is up and running and you have financial issue, if you seek help from them, they will never want to give you such financial help but instead they will give you series of stories of how they are having issues too.
Just like what I have been preaching, you should learn not to target your product to your family and friends, instead, use that medium to target your business to those who needs it - the outsiders. Before targeting them, make sure you monitor them to know what they really likes. If that eventually falls into what you are offering/selling, then you can decide to have a touch with them. You can as well use other mediums to promote it, those who love your business will located you themselves.
The various medium which you can use for running your promotion include; social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, Hive, Tiktok, etc. You can also use News media like your Television, Radio, News paper etc. If you use this medium to promote your product it will surely get to more audience and they will surely be some people who will contact you and patronise your business despite not knowing you.
You can also use the direct means to educate people about your business and ends up sharing your complementary card so they can contact you any time any day. This direct other wise called face to face discussions can be inform of seminar meeting or meeting client directly through physical meeting.
Without much sayings, we can see that it is good to always focus our business outside the family and business angle. Market your business through better means and see you business achieving positive result.

I totally agree with you, I think family and friends are better left out of our business, maybe not because they do not support them but because I have always thought that linking one thing with the other does not bring anything good to our plans. Bonding often ruins business so it is best to work with people with whom we can be neutral. And without ties that bind us.

In simple words, family and friends can sundown any business venture if boundaries are not set about their thoroughfare. This is a solid muse and I support. I've tasted the ills of it.

True. It seem that it's easier to convince your family or friends to "help you with some money" (pretending that you're in financial trouble) than to encourage them to invest in our ideas.
And again - what you say can be true. Some people are like that. Unfortunatelly I had some similar experiences.

Like in my locality where I grow, if you call people to support your business, they will never want to but if you die, they will bring money out for funeral.
