What Is Your Favourite Ever Song??

Every music lover has many favourite songs from different genres depending on the mood they are in. I have an eclectic taste in music myself and I would describe my taste in music as getting broader as I get older. I will give every kind of music a chance. If I was a politician I would be maybe just off centre. There are a few types of music I just can't get into. Metal is one of them and country western is another. Now when I say metal I mean some lad shouting and roaring into a microphone. I quite like Metallica and the lighter stuff.
But of someone was to put a gun to your head and ask you what your favourite song is would one come to mind. And before you come back with "Happiness is a warm gun", I want you to have a serious think about it. What is the song that stood the test of time. That remained in the playlist throughout the years and is part of your top ten every year on the various wrapped music app's that send you stuff like that. It is quite a pickle isn't it?? The last time I did this I got comments with ten different songs but nobody really had just one song.
Some favourite songs change as you grow older. My favourite songs always end up being so so at the start and then they grow on me. If I love a song from the start then that song will get played out with me.
I had a good long hard think about the music I was into over the years from Rory Gallagher to Thin Lizzy, from Oasis to Radiohead, from Fleet Foxes to Bears Den, from Bell X1 to Vampire Weekend and who can forget practically ever Beatles song. All different genres. I went back over my Spotify wrapped and a 3 songs kept appearing in the playlists. Barring the Beatles who I find have been getting over played as late, there is only so much content that you can bring out.

California Dreaming by Momma's and the papa's
Down Under by Men At Work.
The Whole of The Moon The Waterboys

I love happy songs so I think Down Under is the ultimate happy song. Played in the summer. Sun shining everything is good.

The Whole of The Moon for some reason hits a chord with me. I saw them live just before Covid hit.
And when Adam Scott who is alot older now but still looks like a rock star started into the song I was overcome with emotion which never really happened me before. Adan lives in Ireland and if you ever hang out around Grafton Street and you see a lad wearing a cowboy hat then it's more than likely him. He is the only one of my musical hero's that I stopped and had a chat to. Scottish lad. Sound as a pound.

Source
California Dreaming is just class. The vocals are just top class and I have always just loved it. The bands back story is very interesting with the most talented singer in the Mamas and the Papas by the name of Cass Elliot dying in what all that can be described as being fat shamed to death which is shocking.

Source

So it's time to pick my favourite and I just cannot get past Down Under by Men at Work. I love it when I was 3. I loved it when I was 13. I loved it when I was 28 and I love it now. It's a song I rarely get sick of. I hear bands trying to cover it and fail miserably. No it mightn't be the most technical gifted song for the lyrics and arrangements. I would only describe the genre as a type of happy reggae kind of something like the Police would come out with but I just love it.

So my question to you is name your top 3 favourite songs and pick one from the 3 and see what you come up with. Leave your answers in the comment section and there will be a a H.B.I in it for the people who share theirs.

HAhahah, Metal rules!!!!

1: The Sentinel - Judas Priest.
2:The Reckoning - Killswtch Engage (I think that fits your description of lads shouting and roaring)
3: Paint it black (Cover by Leo Morachioli)

I have to include 4 as it is the original of number 3 and its not metal :O)

Jesus boom I never had you down for a metal head. More a pretenders fan : o ) Never heard of the first two. I presume the third is a cover of the rolling stones classic.

Oh aye. I am metal as fuck!! Wahahahahah! I blame my brother, it was all he listened to when you was younger and we shared a room.

It is indeed that!

I quite like that one. I Liked the Judas priest one as well but the reckoning??? I'm lost on that one but that's the joy of music.

It sure is. The joy of drinking means that I put the wrong one down for number two but I will take it as a Freudian slip :0D

It's funny. I had a few myself and I said the pretenders rather than the proclaimers 🤣🤣🤣

Metal & Country: I concur... Metal: Though I feel the power of what maybe can be classified as quality Metal. Have been a few times in my life to live events Grunge & Metal and I (think I) understood why others love these genres. The less hardcore metal like Rammstein, I understand for sure, but only after I've seen DVDs from them. To combination of music and drama on stage is very powerful. That said, am far from being a fan. Country: I think I can more easily condone music from this genre, though much of what I've heard I really don't like, not even as background music. One of the nice things country does to peeps, the fans, is the need to dance together in preset moves. I suppose, country brings people together. Many fellow citizens in my country (somewhere in Europe, hence far away from 'country'-land) are taking country dance lessons.

Most favourite song: I really cant give a single song. It really really difficult for me to give a single band, or singer or artists as well. But if you would put a gun to my head, I have to say the band Talk Talk (some of their work: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=talk+talk). They are not on top of my playlists of the respective online services I use, since I listen their music from old media: CD, or .wav files with some local .wav player.

Talk Talk . Interesting. I will look them up. Yeah I'm from Ireland which would not be country as such but the older people love country here. I lived in Germany for a few years and I found that metal was massive there and there were even late bars dedicated to metal alone. Like yourself I don't mind the less hardcore stuff but the heavy stuff goes over my head completely. But I get why people like it. Thanks for the detailed comment.

(Edited)

Nice observation about heavy metal and Germany. One of the first music places I've been to in Berlin, was to some metal event. Was back in the 90s.

I hope all the play links are still working, the post links are still to the bunch that gave birth to our community here. Most of Talk Talk albums. They have 6 in total.
Talk Talk - It's My Life (1984) ... album | play | post

I listened to Talk Talk last night actually and know the song It's my Life very well. Was it covered recently as well? Yeah the Germans loved their metal.

Right here goes @blanchy.... in no particular order....

One of the best bands on the planet for me and my favourite song of theres....

Another of my favourite bands, seen them live 3 or 4 times... Unreal... Hard to pick a favourite song, can change daily... today I'll go with...

We were sitting beside a randomer on a flight to Dubrovnik around 12 years ago and he told me about this band amd I've been a huge fan ever since. Saw them live a few times. It's not just music, it's art. Their music videos are so captivating. I love how they slowly build to sublime finishes. Enjoy.

Fuck it, I'll throw in 2 more!!!

This lad is a genius. Rap is not everyone's cup of tea, but this lad is different gravy. Best since 2Pac, maybe even better... Any who doesn't like rap, give Good kid M.A.A.D city a listen start to finish with an open mind and talk to me again afterwards. Top notch concept album, as good as I've seen in any genre.

Finally, I'll throw in the first song I ever danced around and head banged like a lunatic to....

Jesus there's so many more too!!! Can't believe I don't even have Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam or Nirvana in there!

Jesus @ablaze our musical tastes are quite similar. I'd be a big fan of Arcade fire as well. One of my best gigs ever was them with the pikies in marley Park. They were unreal. Win butler boy and the Haitian wife. They make some music. Like the national and sigur ros as well. It's mad about the flight. The solo in paradise city is one of my favourites. I'd dapple with a guitar so I know how hard it is to play.

I wouldn't mind. I had a good think about it and I realised I left Fleetwood mac "The Chain" out of my top 3 so I now declare this post null and void. " Chaiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnn keep us together "
