I Finally Said No

For some reasons yet to be known,Ghanaian ladies never voice out when they go to do their hair(I don’t know for other countries). We’d rather keep quiet and allow the braiders to do whatever they want and then when we get home, that’s when our families and friends hear complaints of all shapes and colors.

For about a month now,I’ve allowed my natural hair to breathe by just doing natural twists.I woke up this morning with my dad telling me if I want to follow him to his trip tomorrow,I better do something to my hair and that was when I knew it was time to braid.I left home around 3pm to wash my hair and by the time I got to the braider it was 4pm.I wasn’t sure if she could even braid at that time but she assured me not to worry.

I told her how I wanted the braids not once, not twice but “thousand”(that should explain how many times I explained to her the style I wanted). She started braiding from the back of my head.As a person with big head and a lot of hair, I bought enough weave so she doesn’t get any excuse to rely on in case she doesn’t do what I asked for. After a row of braids I just couldn’t feel the braids touching my skin. That is when I knew that was not the length I asked for.I started touching the braids and she asked me to trust her and allow her to finish, then I touch them.

Even though I knew what she was doing was wrong,I was ready to endure and accept whatever she does on head.Just when I was about to start my endurance process,I thought to myself, but I’m paying the exact amount she requested so why do I have to keep quiet and suffer?
No, this is not what I asked for,I told her politely but with some boldness and seriousness. That’s when I got to know she didnt even know how to do the style I showed her.She had to go and call her friend to come help her.
In the end, her friend was even the one who braided my hair and I like it.

Honestly, this is about just the second time I’m actually getting what I wanted from a braider and it’s just because I spoke up.I’m sure a lot of ladies have experienced this and couldn’t speak up.I don’t know if men also experience this when they go to the barbershop but that would be terrible as you would have to find a way to grow your hair again so you can correct it.Thank you for your time and I hope you like my hair as much as I do.

Your hair looks awesome. But you know what I like even more? That you stood up for what you wanted. 🙌

Now if I could just find someone here as good as that second woman you mentioned then I'd get her to braid these blonde extensions into my hair! !LOL

This was so nice to read cause I can relate well to it. I get so fidgety when my hair stylist does my hair. I keep relying on her words that I should wait and that she knows what I want. And through this, I've had to remain indoors a few times for the entire duration of the hair.

But I've learnt to speak up recently and I'm glad you achieved this. You look really beautiful with it btw.♥️

I can imagine how many other ladies have to put on scarfs when they braid just because they don’t like it.

The hair looks good. If it wasn’t touching your skin, I wonder the result you would have gotten if you didn’t speak up😂

As for this issue hm😂. The current hair I have right now,I don't like it because she didn't do the middle part like I asked. And instead of reminding her f what I wanted while she was braiding,I didn't 😂😂😂
