Life long Lessons

avatar

This week’s prompt we were asked to talk about the most important lesson learnt from life.

I have learnt so many lessons from life, in the process of undergoing these lessons I have cried, laughed, regretted, and sometimes even questioned my existence but in all of this I have learnt valuable lessons that I will never forget in a hurry.

One of the most important lesson life has taught me is to always keep an open mind on friendships, bearing in mind that people will always come and go in my life, I will lose some friends to deceit, betrayal, lies, and some to death, it basically depends on what life throws at me but in all, I have learnt to stand strong and to keep pushing.

According to the popular saying 20 children do not play together for 20 years. In my years of having friends I have learnt to enjoy every bit of the friendship while in existence, I try to make every day and every minute count as I do not know what may happen in the next few seconds or minutes.

One of the saddest things in life is watching your amazing friend walk away from your life, a friend who you stuck by during tough times, a friend who you ate from the same plate with, cried together, did crazy things together, someone who you were ready to go above and beyond for. One minute you guys are really close the next minute you are total strangers.

It is so hard to watch your friend become a complete stranger to you. When your wonderful friend suddenly withdraws without a reasonable explanation or cause, the pains associated with this act can be really terrible. Although sometimes we tend to lie to ourselves and others that we are cool with this friend’s departure but deep down we miss their absence more than we can ever admit to ourselves.

The thought of not hearing your name from the mouth of your friend, not hanging out with them, not calling or texting can be really heartbreaking.

Human relationships are dynamic, it can change at any point in time. Most times, the reason for a friend's departure is not known and this leaves us in a state of confusion and hurt.

Life has taught me that situations and circumstances can push people in different directions and their reason for walking away from the friendship may be personal and has nothing to do with you. Realizing this has made me more at ease with myself and my conscience.

IMG_6712.jpeg

I had a sad encounter with my friend one time, out of the blue she started withdrawing, I searched my heart and also accessed myself to see where I wronged her but I couldn’t find anything that prompted her withdrawal. I decided to take the bold step to confront her and all I could get was “It’s not you IB, it’s a me problem, I just want to be left alone” As sad as her response was I had to still leave her.

I have learnt that people come into our lives at different stages of our lives and for different purposes, so once that person’s purpose in our life is done they walk away while there are those who stick around for a lifetime and I have learnt not to joke with such people.

While I make new connections and friendships, I always put it at the back of my mind that change is the only constant thing, if a friend wakes up and decides to walk away from the friendship even after I try to salvage the friendship I let them be, what’s fighting for a friend when they don’t want to be in your life anymore?

Everyone’s emotional journey is unique, and it is very important to give ourselves the time and space to process our emotions without judgment, the way I feel sad or sulk over losing a friend may not be how the next person would handle it.

I have learnt to give myself enough time to process everything and move on with a clear heart not holding grudges for this my ex-friend, it’s usually not easy but eventually, it works out well for me.

While the pain of losing a dear friend may be terrible, it also offers an avenue for growth and self-discovery, paving the way for new beginnings and cherished memories of the friendship that once was.

All images are mine and were taken with my mobile phone.

Loads of Love🥰🥰

Friends come and go whether we like it or not, not because we are bad to them or they are bad for us but because everyone in our lives has a purpose and once that purpose is fulfilled they will be gone.

I have learn to enyoy the moment, cherish the memories and learn from the lessons.

The older we grow, we get to outgrow some kind of friendships and relationship.

This right here is it. Every person you encounter has a purpose in your life and some are for the long haul. Lovely piece dear💕

Friendships are really delicate. Unlike other forms of relationships, it takes a huge amount of patience and understanding and also a lot of mental power. My friends can affect my mood greatly (which I see is the same for you) and is why I am very selective. Sometimes, friends come into our lives to play a certain role and then leave. It hurts but it’s true.

Some friendships are naturally not meant to last because different people come into friendships for so many reasons, the real ones stay and those who came for other reasons leave once they have what they want. Some friends also have a negative impact on us and so we have no option than to let go. Sometimes we are even the problem but we do not realise it. You can’t keep holding onto toxicity.

Well said, better be friendless than be in a toxic friendship.

Wow, this is such a powerful and insightful lesson! Life is indeed a journey filled with ups and downs, and friendships are an integral part of it. Learning to keep an open mind about friendships and accepting that people come and go is a true sign of emotional maturity. It takes strength and resilience to face deceit, betrayal, and loss, but your determination to stand strong and keep pushing forward is truly inspiring. Remember, the experiences we encounter shape us and make us stronger. Keep embracing life's lessons with an open heart, and you will continue to grow and thrive. Your perspective is admirable, and I believe your wisdom will undoubtedly help others navigate their own paths as well. Thank you for sharing this valuable insight! 🌟

You're most welcome! @ibbtammy. I'm glad my comment resonated with you. You're absolutely right about the value of friendship – it's a precious bond that enriches our lives. And you make a great point about setting boundaries. While friendship is a source of joy and support, it's essential to recognize when certain lines need to be drawn to maintain a healthy and balanced relationship. Take care and see you around, my friend! 😊👋

You can force a horse to the river but you can't force it to drink water. Sometimes you just need to play your part and watch for the best

I've been that friend who suddenly goes out of his friend's life. I don't have tight relationships with people outside my family and relatives, so my friends from middle school and high school, I barely remember them. Though I still have the contacts of two for my college friends if we needed to call each other.

I remember a lot of my online friends, though, I just don't know them in real life.

By the way, is this a saying from your culture?

"20 children do not play together for 20 years"

Lol funny how I have been saying this for years and I never knew it was coined from one of our indigenous languages until now, So yeah it's a quote from my culture.

I'm able to let go of the hurt and forgive, allowing me to continue on my journey without the heavy burden of resentment. I have also learnt to be more understanding and compassionate towards others and reflect on my own mistakes. This has helped me to become a better version of myself.
Interesting article.
