More Tomatoes Than I Can Ever Eat, My Garden Update!

The last couple of weeks I have let my garden get a a bit out of control. I just haven't had as much free time to spend out there, and when I do, it invariably rains. That just how the cookie crumbles I suppose! Like they say, you can't have your cake and eat it too...

I went out this morning to do some picking in the garden as the next two days are supposed to be rainy yet again. The weather has cooled down a bit, around 70 F (22 C) and my peppers and tomatoes are slowing down production. The like things warmer, but that's how each winter is in southern California. It doesn't freeze, but the garden output slows down significantly.

But my tomatoes are still ripening, and my cherry tomatoes are producing so heavily that I'm having a hard time keeping up with them!

That's never a problem really, just a time of year that I love as I can eat tomatoes to my heart's content!

Rosemary

I do have a rosemary bush that every year gets out of control. It's about time to bring out the electric hedge trimmers to cut it down to size again. That should keep it in check until spring, but it's nice having fresh rosemary whenever I want it!

Jalapenos

The peppers have really slowed down since the heat went away, they love the hot days... But they are slowly ripening some jalapenos, sadly the shishito peppers have really slowed down and aren't currently flowering at all!

Broccolini

My Broccolini is out of control, I have to harvest weekly or this is what happens. I'll be cutting back the flowers and harvesting the edible portions today. This stuff tastes great, it's a mix of Chinese broccoli with regular broccoli. But it really is good if you've never tried it!

That will wrap up my garden update for the day. I didn't show all of the Roma variety tomatoes, although they are loaded with tomatoes just waiting to be picked as well. It's a shame the weather is cooling, but I have enjoyed the peak garden season for the year. With any luck the plants will slowly produce over the winter, and ramp back up again come spring!

Thanks for taking the time to take a look and I hope you enjoyed the pictures. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always, thank you for all of the support. It's greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!

I pruned my potted rosemary today and my daughter made little bundles of it to give away at the store when she goes to work tomorrow

I hated to see it go to waste, so I was happy that she was willing to hand it out.

Wow, that is some green and lush veggies. Tomatoes galore! Maybe next year I can at least gets something close to that. Or at least that resembles a tomato plant. My cherry tomato plants were pathetic this year. YOu must have one hell of a green thumb like my wife. I think next year I might let her help me. :)

A lot of it is the soil. Adding fertilizer and sterilized manure before planting helps. Neem oil is a great way to keep the pests away, is organic and natural. I have to spray about once a week to keep aphids and spider mites away. Automatic watering systems help too, if you have one. I have a very rare thing for around here, the house came with a well for irrigation which you can't get permits for anymore, so I was lucky!

I am missing my gardening, this was the case with me last year. They grow in abundance.

It is fun, but I know where you live currently you don't have that option. How is the weather there in winter?

Ah, yeah. We can never have too many tomatoes. As for the broccolini, I'm okay with trying it. I grew up being forced to eat broccoli as well as celery, but I know deep inside I really despise them. Id rather eat bitter gourd. So I suppose your weekend will be tending the garden. Happy weekend, Ryan!
