Don't Say The Truth, It Hurts - I'd Rather Live A Lie

Jenny woke up early to hear her parents quarreling in their bedroom in a way they thought she wouldn't get to hear. They had never had a fight before as far as Jenny could recall so something wasn't just right, Jenny thought. Jenny was very young but could understand a well heated argument and a mild one although she didn't know the main reason of their argument.

Time for breakfast! Jenny's mum called with the lovely voice that Jenny didn't hear during the argument. Jenny came down for breakfast and was happy to see her parents eating and smiling like nothing happened. Jenny left for school and her parents visited their divorce lawyer where they got a form to sign after much thoughts on it.

Jenny's parents called for her after school hours and asked for forgiveness about what they were about to tell her and Jenny was able to guess what they wanted to tell her and before her dad began talking, Jenny paused him and said:

"Don't say the truth of what you're about to say, live a lie with me. I'd rather live a lie with you two together."

What would be your take on this issue? Isn't it really best that the truth isn't said? Jenny's parents have to find a way to settle their differences and not hurting Jenny. The truth might shatter her so it's best not said.

Are there more scenario where it's best the truth should be left unsaid? There could be. But then, how about this? Tell the truth now so one can deal with the hurt now than later.

Truth they say, will surely come to light... One can't shy away from the truth, you've got to face it and mend the hurt somehow.

Like @harlowjourney said in Her Post

I have to be honest. I have been part of Hive for almost a week, and I am already seriously considering leaving. While I have felt extremely welcomed by many members, others, like a certain someone who wrote a post purporting to help newbies, but directed at my transgressions, have left a very bad taste in my mouth.

She said it and got it out of her mind, imagine if she had just left Hive without saying this truth? The mistakes she pointed out would still be there, more writers like her wouldn't get to know Hive because I believe every Hiver is a testimony to his or her part of the world in bringing more people to Hive. So it was for the best she said the truth even though it scared a few Hivers like me.

  • Don't hide the truth, say it
  • If you don't want to hurt anyone, don't tell a lie
  • Truth and lie can't go together and truth will always win so, say it.

This is my entry for the DCC Contest, you can check it out and participate also.

Thanks for reading!!!

I have always been under the impression that I am a lady, but people keep calling me he/him. I haven't been sure of a polite way to correct them. I didn't think it was unclear, but it seems to be! I was thinking of adding profile details that make it more obvious. I think I will. As far as why people are promoting me, I have no idea, but I am humbled, grateful, and honoured.

@edystringz I read the post through your tag. I agree with all he had said. Personally I feel that the only reason I'm here is because I met people I knew from UU, the click thing, strict rules and rapt policing is real. A tense environment is not good for anybody's mental health.

The only place I will love to differ is where he said "those that will remain are either those that have a clique or those that are too poor to leave". I am resourceful, even out of the internet space, sometimes internet is a distraction to me.

Remember I once asked you how much you make on hive, and how committed you are to it?

I wanted to know whether the heavy demand is worth it, because I can do same elsewhere and have a good return.

Where we hold a different view is that some of us don't like giving up, no matter how it looks. We like sticking around to see how it will eventually turn out. We are adventurous.

We are not here merely because of clique or due to the fact that we are too poor to live.

BTW, girl it's been a while.

Nicely said dear.

Truth always comes to light. It's always good to tell the truth. It's better to know that you were told the truth rather than a lie.

there are ways to tell the truth, most times it can be said nicely but there are times you need to say it as it is.
Having said that I have no idea what you are talking about, I have hardly had the time to read and comment on post over the last few days.
I need to catch up with a lot soon.

Sometimes telling the truth boomerangs on me so I say it sugar-coated. It still says the truth makes the impact a little lesser harsh. Saves my skin 😎

I had to follow the tag on @edystringz comment to read the post you quoted here. I will comeback to that.

In the case of your first story, I believe that we don't always have two options. Between two evils, there is always a lesser one.

The parents you mentioned might not be undergoing any form of physical abuse from any of the partners. If they are I will waste no time endorsing a speedy divorce. Because a life is at stake.

In the absence of a physical abuse, I believe there are things we can put up with as adults for the sake of a child we brought to the world.

I'm not asking anyone to lie, it's about making decision to put the differences aside for the sole purpose of the child, until the child is old enough to handle the news.

What if the he child is psychologically damage because of a so called truth

There should be tactics in disclosing the truth, 'truth' can damage more than a 'lie' when it's said without technicality.

I would've said more but no need prolonging the post. I might right on it on my blog.

Talking of the post you quoted. I love what the guy did, I mean it hurt no one, he simply spill the bean. There's no way to sugar coat it, policing people for every presumed and assumed error hasn't in anyway help issues.

When rules are not flexible, we will only have a satisfaction of being disciplinarians, but the truth remains, nothing will change. People will only opt their game of gaming the system, because it will look like it is the system versus some users kinda thing, a battle line will be drawn and the truth is the system will loose.
