Delica Eatery - Foodcourt with Luxurious and Elegant Design and Architecture

Hello everyone and all members of Architecture+Design Community, how are you guys today? I hope that all of us are always given health and happiness in this life. Every human being must have problems and challenges that we must face in life. It's time for us to fight and keep trying to always give the best. This time, I want to re-participate in this community to share my experience and also my story

A few days ago, my wife and I went to one of the biggest malls in my city. I accompanied my wife for shopping, and I just wanted to see the atmosphere of the mall. For us, the Mall is a place to hangout and spend time while relaxing. Malls in my city are not only places for shopping but also provide cinema, restaurants, food courts, rides, etc.

We came to Delipark Mall – Podomoro City Medan which is located at Putri Hijau Street no. 1 Kesawan, Medan Barat District – Medan City. The location of this mall is very strategic because it is in the middle of the center of Medan City, and is surrounded by vital objects such as hotels, schools, government offices, train stations, etc. Seeing the large market potential of visitors who come, Delipark Mall has many shopping tenants that will attract visitors. In addition, Delipark Mall – Podomoro City Medan presents a food court with a very interesting design and architecture for us to discuss.

Delica Eatery

Delica Eatery and Foodcourt is located on the 3rd floor of Delipark Mall – Podomoro City Medan. which has a different design and concept from other foodcourts that I have seen in my city. Delica provides various types of food such as Asian food, western food, Indonesian food, street food and various types of drinks.

When I entered this foodcourt, I felt like I was in the lobby of a five-star hotel, it looked very luxurious and elegant. At the front or the entry gate, we can see the wording "Delica" which is made up of neon lights that form each letter with small gold pillars on the back ground. The entry gate looks very modern but very minimalist. We will also see decorations such as unique “quotes” that will attract the attention of everyone who comes.

The decorations and furniture used are also varied. At the very front of the foodcourt, Delica Eatery uses the coffee talk concept or looks like the front lobby of a hotel. Benches and tables are not made in rows but are arranged into several groups. The furniture uses high sofa chairs that are comfortable and soft for us to use to sit for a long time and also a small table for drinks. This design and furniture concept is intended for foodcourt visitors who want to just have coffee or chat, because the table section is not very suitable for a dining table.

One thing that makes Delica Eatery different from other foodcourts is the choice of floor architecture used for this place. Delica Eatery chooses marble floors with furnish finishes that are very beautiful and aesthetic. The color of the marble floor chosen also emphasizes the impression of minimalism but still luxurious and elegant. Delica Eatery also uses a table made of marble, the table arrangement is also very unique and comfortable, of course. Marble countertops make the cleaning process easier than wooden tables.

I was also very impressed with the lighting and lighting from the Delica Eatery. The lighting arrangement from Delica Eatery is very well made because it not only serves as the main light source but also has to be attractive and aesthetic. Delica Eatery uses a lot of ceiling lights combined with charming architectural designs. In addition, the addition of various ornaments and accessories also makes this food court room more lively.

Balcony Area

Delica Eatery also has an outdoor section or balcony which is also a favorite of many people who come here. The outdoor section is designed to be more relaxed by using wood motif floors and a choice of minimalist furniture (tables and benches) that we often see at IKEA. Apparently, the outdoor section is made to accommodate smokers who come to this smoking area. Oh yes, in this outdoor section we can also see views of Medan City and other buildings around the mall.

There is something unique and I think it's quite clever, architecturally the outdoor part or balcony of the Delica Eatery faces west and seems to have been designed by the Architect, so that lucky visitors (if the sky is clear and not raining of course) can get a beautiful sunset view. Perhaps, the idea of sunset is the beginning of this charming foodcourt with balcony.

I am very impressed and amazed by the design, architecture and concept of Delica Eatery. While here, we will get a different hangout and dining experience from other places. The atmosphere of the Delica Eatery is very comfortable and clean with the arrangement of benches that are not too tight. It seems, Delica Eatery is also the answer and solution for urban urbanites in Medan City for aesthetic and instagramable places to eat and hangout. We can use all parts of this food court as a selfie spot.
