Reflections in water [Reflection Hunters Contest]

Shadows are like reflections. Reflections are like shadows. If you remove the details from the reflection, then you get a version of the shadow. Someday I'll try to do it in the photo.
And now we are going to participate in a new competition of REFLECTIONS.

Reflections of architecture in mirror-like water are certainly advantageous. Especially if the architecture itself is great. This is a doubling of splendor.
But today we will go to nature. It's winter now. If the rivers and lakes were covered with clear mirror ice, I would go for fresh photographs. But the ice is covered with snow. Even shadows are difficult to find in the overcast weather that dominates now.

Therefore, we will go to the archives. Moreover, we will go as far as possible. These will be photographs taken with old cameras and the same old lenses. Most of the photographs are over 10 years old. Perhaps some of them were published by me on other resources, but not here. In addition, I just edited every photo in Lightroom, which I simply could not have done before. I did not have this program and I did not know how to work with it at all.

Here is such a long introduction, but in my opinion it was necessary.
Now you will see the nature of wild and cultural places.

Тени похожи на отражения. Отражения похожи на тени. Если убрать из отражения детали, то вы получите вариант тени. КАк-нибудь я попробую сделать это на фото.
А сейчас мы будем участвовать в новом конкурсе ОТРАЖЕНИЙ.

Отражения архитектуры в зеркальной воде смотрятся безусловно выигрышно. Особенно, если сама архитектура великолепна. Это удвоение великолепия.
Но сегодня мы отправимся на природу. Сейчас зима. Если бы реки и озёра были покрыты чистым зеркальным льдом, я бы отправился за свежими фотографиями. Но лёд покрыт снегом. Даже тени сложно найти при пасмурной погоде, которая доминирует сейчас.

А потому мы отправимся в архивы. Причём, мы зайдём так далеко, как только возможно. Это будут фотографии сделанные на старые камеры и такие же старые линзы. Большинству фотографий более 10 лет. Возможно, некоторые из них были опубликованы мной на других ресурсах, но не здесь. Кроме того, каждое фото я только что откорректировал в Лайтрум, чего раньше просто не смог бы сделать. У меня не было этой программы и я не умел с ней работать вообще.

Вот такое длинное вступление, но на мой взгляд оно было необходимо.
Теперь вы увидите природу диких и культурных мест.

This is the Tosna river and in the first photo you can see the dam built by the beavers. The water above the dam is just mirror-like. I went fishing and just exploring the river bed. What camera I shot with, I don't remember.

Это река Тосна и на первом фото вы видите плотину, которую устроили бобры. Вода выше плотины просто зеркальная. Я ходил ловить рыбу и просто исследовать русло реки. На какую камеру снимал, я уже не вспомню.

This is the same river and the same camera. The water in the river is mobile and reflections are slightly distorted. Why did I bring these old footage? In order to show reflections and hint that it would be nice to have better optics. But if you shoot reflections in close-up, it can somehow save the situation. If you want to capture just reflections. Nature itself was filmed here and the reflections were just a bonus.

Это таже река и таже камера. Вода в реке подвижна и отражения слегка искажаются. Для чего я привёл эти старые кадры? Для того, чтобы показать отражения и намекнуть, что тут было бы неплохо иметь более качественную оптику., но если снимать отражения крупным планом, это может как-то спасти ситуацию. Если вы хотите снять именно отражения. Здесь же снималась сама природа и отражения были лишь бонусом.

Вот здесь снималось именно само отражение деревьев и неба. Это была весна. Здесь отражения наложились на рисунок дна этой лесной весенней лужи.
А теперь отправимся в парк Дубки города Сестрорецка.

As you can see, this is an autumn evening and a modern camera for shooting. Colored objects reflect better in the water. In general, two factors are important for reflections, either the color or the interesting shape of the object.

Как видите, это осенний вечер и современная камера для съёмки. Цветные объекты отражаются в воде более выигрышно. Вообще, для отражений важны два фактора, либо цвет, либо интересная форма объекта.

If you have a tripod and a gray ND filter, you can get rid of ripples in the water and get more distinct reflections. In the future, I will try to cover this topic in more detail and with examples. But I need to find the folder I need.

Если у вас есть штатив и серый нейтральный фильтр, то можно избавиться от ряби на воде и получить более внятные отражения. В будущем я постараюсь осветить эту тему подробнее и с примерами. Вот только нужную паку надо найти.

And this is a bonus for those who could endure my chatter up to this point. There is a connection here between the two communities and the two contests. The first competition (white birds) at Feathered Friends and the first here at Shadow Hunters (reflections).

I tried not only to show photos, but also to share some of my thoughts on shooting reflections. I hope someone will find this information useful.
