Foundational Perspectives - The Political Post

I moved to the big city to gain some perspective. There weren't as many opportunities as I expected however, as my suspicions were that the collapse was beginning. I felt the winds of change at timewaves end and I set sail for the future whatever it may bring. The world was changing faster than ever and I knew that I had to do my own thing. I must blaze my own trail forward if I am to live my dreams.

As I learned how to think and reason my framework for the way the world was formed, but also challenged. And though I knew it not, my life was changing too. The unfolding geopolitical situation in countries around the world, was also unfolding around me. While learning to be a human being during the generational shift out of the technological revolution and into the information revolution, it feels like looking at a bird on a tree-branch while zipping past it on the highway. We are already moving into AI and nanotech revolutions, while the average person still imagines they are living in the ideal 90s world view.

I just wanted to tell my story, and understand the world a little more. The internet opened up the whole world to each individual and by logging in one could find more information than one could even imagine have existed. And infinite more. The framework we are given as a child by our parents shaped our worldview, but now we can see that the world is so much bigger.

Peering through the telescope of computer monitor across the world wide web, and using tools like social media which allow previously disconnected web users to collaborate and communicate in more focused ways, many individuals have begun to see the transformative effects of concentrated efforts and other techniques for attaining self mastery, and collaboration.

However the opposite is true also, when there are varied perspectives and communication is not clear, then there can be disagreement of opinion. There is great risk however when we silence dissenting voices, and in an open public forum anyone should be free to express their opinions. Without contrasting perspectives and opinions freely expressed, truth remains elusive.

I will not be silenced by social media any longer, and am going to write about the subjects that are of concern to me, as well as those subjects that interest me. The Political Post may be at times controversial, but it will not be censored.

What protocols do you have in place to prevent censorship? It seems like it's a hot button topic on Hive lately particularly on anything that is controversial with downvoting and flagging being a popular tactic for targeting political opponents. I suppose a person could just have a milquetoast take and not really challenge anything to avoid censorship.

I don't think that I can develop a protocol that prevents censorship in general, but we can choose to use better tools. Regardless of upvotes or downvotes, content published here can always be found on the HiveBlocks layer, so publishing my stories to Hive seems to be a solution that for now is sufficient. I have no desire to publish anything to Web2 social media, unless I have published it here first. Current events and topics of interest will be posted here to the Politics community, and other relevant communities instead of to a centralized social media giant that has no respect for my free expression.

Yeah I've seen other people argue that downvoting doesn't refute immutability but when the default display options are trending and hot, it's difficult to say it's a censorship resistant platform. Obscuring content that way isn't much different than shadow banning. How is Hive a better way when their witnesses actions look very similar to the way mainstream social media operates while also having less than 1% the reach?

This is part of the political landscape of our decentralized Hive, and a conversation that could be explored. I have attempted to engage with witnesses so I can get to know them better, and also find out which ones are no longer functional. I will revisit this topic and perhaps we can have the witnesses engage in the discussion too. I would like to know which witnesses support decentralization, and censorship resistance (as opposed to censorship proof which it is not totally). This is a big topic thanks for bringing it up for consideration.

I don't see much difference between this censorship

And this censorship https://peakd.com/hive-150329/@phusionphil/boycott-the-witness-who-is-against-questioning-the-vaccine

Hive could be a better way but chooses not to and will pay the consequences eventually.

I've seen lots of opine about how we need to onboard and reach this imaginary $5 Hive benchmark but most of the actions lately seem to repulsive and literally trying to push people off the platform, I wouldn't be surprised if the real libertarians fork away and leave a 5 cent Hive behind with a toxic culture actually worse than modern steemit.

I don't think the two are quite comparable and the economics are a whole different issue. I don't see any benefit from forking Hive. Now anyone can create their own token, including some "real libertarians" who can set it to $5 if they want. There are some great projects doing this already. Most of the downvoting efforts we can assume are meant to help fight spam and malicious behavior, but there are issues that should be discussed. Some users might be getting downvoted for reasons they don't even know why. This is a larger topic than what I am discussing here, but perhaps worth an Article and some discussion.

You have the ability to say no here, and your ability to express your disagreement is not censored even if it is voted down. This is a great exercise in true freedom, where you can the ability to express your opinion, or say no. You can support witnesses that you do prefer. If you don't want to vote for a particular witness, no one is forcing you to either. Hive's very existence is a evidence of the success of the chain at achieving consensus. If for some reason Hive was no longer able to function as the community expects, there might be a different consensus achieved by different groups. There is always Blurt to fall back on if Hive implodes which seems unlikely.

You're correct they're not comparable. The actions of hextech is actually much more deplorable. When Strossel looked for answers he was at least given a bad reason for his climate change content being censored. While Phil got told
', all I can say is, unless you are a scientist.... Probably best to just sit down and shut up. LoL.' 'Making false claims about someone is insulting. Especially when the claim is something like the removal of your basic right to freedom of expression. All of your expressions are still in place, still visible, and you are just as free to make more' Phil got pushback for even challenging the groupthink on vaccines and got told that the politician whose message he was broadcasting about was an invalid opinion being 'not a scientist' which makes no fucking sense at all. If you can't see the slippery slope we're on and how much pushback and civil war that is going on in Hive then you have your head in the sand. If you don't want to back up someone who has supported you getting to this point that's your prerogative but don't ignorantly act like you're being political when there are attacks on people making political statement and this attack vector is being utilized to hurt people that have different ideals. This is not how consensus works and if you're going to act like everything is all good on hive and there's no censorship here you're just as much of a cuckold as the rest of the brainwashed cultists. If you're going to have the audacity to use journalism as a tag and say something is political you could at least talk earnestly about the subject matter instead of making untrue and pointless inspiration porn about how everything is all good here when it clearly is not proving to be fundamentally better option. Maybe we can fix these problems. The tools are there but the cult may be too powerful at this point and forking away will be the best solution. Either way don't be a coward and bullshit blindly while we're in the laughable state we're in.

Those are some valid points and many subjects that are worth exploration, I am not familiar with the context of every point you brought up but it would be naïve to say there are no problems on Hive. The main reason for the journalism tag is reaching out to those members of the Politics community and encourage them to create more content, which is what I will lead by example to do. We have discussed your provocative style of engaging conversation and I appreciate your input. I do not support that witness you referred to, but I do support my friends and their freedom to express opinions and be critical thinkers.

In my country here, my government prefer to silence the people.

It is unfortunate that is the case. Can you give an example of this? I have been experiencing intense restrictions on my Facebook account which is not the government, but due to its size and power, is dangerously close to exercising supranational authority which goes beyond nations. I am very concerned about a world where expression is limited.
