A Reading Habit I Want To Get Rid Of - Procrastination

Have you ever been in a situation when you start to read a book, find it interesting but somehow it takes a very long time to turn the pages?

Maybe this would mean I'm not a faithful lover of books and reading but I think it has more to do with my everyday activity becoming more than it used to be. I remember back then when I was a teenager, I would walk long distances just to go get different story books from my friends who were more capable of getting recent books.

I read a lot of books when I was younger, I really wish I could find each of them to share reviews on but maybe I'll fight my procrastination to do that soon (hopefully it won't be until next two years lol). Thanks to dad who would give my siblings and I pocket money to school, I got to rent some books to read back then too.

I can't express enough how much those books helped me killed time, feel experiences that really didn't happen and made me improve in my love for writing stories.

Yes, I did wrote a lot of stories back then inspired from reading too much...

My favourite kind of story genre is romance and fantasy. And I did wrote a lot of really good stories in those genres, I knew they were good when I got a review from a random friend who stumbled upon one of my work. Although I hid my work, he somehow found it, read it and gave awesome review on them, he even wished that I was able to make a publication on it.

All that only helped me gain more confidence in my work but I never got to publish a story, I just enjoyed the fact that I could make things happen my way just by writing them out in a book I hid away. Dad has been so supportive in my writing habit, he gets new books and pens for me even before I ask for one. He always loved to see my siblings and I with our books and not jumping around in the neighborhood haha.

My growing up days were fun, thanks to my love for reading but nowadays, I can't seem to understand where the procrastination is coming from. I tend to feel too lazy to open a book to read and even when I do and find the book interesting, I tend to find it hard in turning pages till the very end... Why is that?

Recently, Hive learners community organized an edition for authors to share their thoughts on Ebooks and traditional books, which is better for them. I had wanted to participate but I realized I didn't have to since I've gotten too lazy to do any of them. The last time I read a book online was like two years ago, oh my! What have I been doing? Procrastinating I guess.

How do I get rid of this habit and get back to my reading fun?

I'm yet to figure it all out but one thing is for sure, I miss holding books to read, I miss smiling to story books during my leisure hours. My phone is taking so much of my time now but finding a way to balance it all up. For the little I've thought out for now...

I plan to get some books from the bookshop and read some online

Maybe I won't procrastinate when I spend my money on some books, I don't know how well it will work but I would do it anyways. If I end up not reading it, I'll take pictures of each pages and share them here for others to read and benefit from my money 🤣 just kidding! I'll have to make sure I read them.

With that in mind, I'd appreciate any suggestions of good romance, comedy and fantasy books to check out... You'll be doing this lazy girl a favour if you make it easier to get good books. Hopefully, I'll share an update of the books I got in a few weeks (not in two years time haha).

I plan to read more book reviews here on Hive

I must say, I feel guilty that I only engage in this community when there's a challenge which isn't a cool thing to do as a lover of books before (and now). I think reading more reviews of books will also help ignite the fire to read in me, I really hope it works out as I imagine.

And by reading reviews, I'll also get to know the kind of books I'll buy for myself to fight my procrastination.

I plan to balance my everyday activities

I'll choose reading a book over seeing my Korean dramas sometimes and I'll set my phone aside to read a page at times too, if won't be easy but yes, I'll fight my procrastination and I hope I succeed.

There's a book mum got for me about two years ago, I'm yet to come to a conclusion on it... Maybe I'll finish that before I begin the ones I'll get soon. But in all, I plan to get my good reading habits back in full force and it is possible.

Book lovers, I'll appreciate any suggested ways you might have for a lazy reader like me 🙂

Hello lazy reader😏

I should have suggested a few books for you, but I don't read romance novels. For funny, relatable work, try, born a crime, suicide notes, in 27 days, yellow yellow. Hope this helps.

But, it's not too late to put out a publication or, what do you think?

Please, fight the procrastination so you can be dishing reviews here and my library can expand.

I absolutely feel you as procrastination is probably the biggest sin of my existence. 🤣 It's been quite a while (as in, years) since I really sit down and read a book.

I think it's all about balance. It's okay if you take time to read something. I personally plan on slowing down because I tend to read book/anything too fast. So now, I am taking more time just to read book and limit myself to 2 books a month.

Wow 2 books a month?
And here I was thinking I'll be reading one book a week, that would make it four books a month 😅

Well, I just have to start first... That's the main thing.
Thanks for stopping by

True, all you do is just start and the rest comes later. I don't really make huge goals, but consistency is also something I am aiming for.

Maybe I won't procrastinate when I spend my money on some books, I don't know how well it will work but I would do it anyways.

I think this might work, sometimes the distinct scent of a book was enough to read..I also read online but sometimes I still miss the feeling of flipping pages rather than scrolling up and down my phone's screen

Yeah, I don't think I'm cut out for reading books online yet... I'd be too distracted to read a page 😅

I think every bookworm out there had experienced a reading slump not just once. I have a fair share of this situation as well. I've been in a reading slump in 2020. And I noticed, every year, I experienced such. I tried opening books but couldn't last for 10 minutes. I sometimes ended up sleeping. So I decided to listen to audiobooks. I kept on looking for that certain book that would save me and give me a spark. After how many attempts of reading and listening, I bumped into A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. I got hooked on the story, and couldn't wait for the voice actor to finish, so I decided to read the book myself. And that's when I ended the reading slump for 7 months.

For this year's reading slump, I tried reading short stories and a non-fic book (Atomic Habits). Then I realized, reading one chapter a day is good enough until your body and brain get used to reading again and will eventually crave more. Also, try reading in a library or coffee shop.

I'm a crime and mystery reader, but I read romance and fantasy as well.

Here are some of the romance books I read. It's light and fun.

  • Wedding Crasher by Mia Sosa
  • The Ex Hex by Erin Sterlin

Wow that's a good way to get rid of your reading slump, maybe I'll try that as well... It seem easier too.

Hmm crime and mystery reader, that's a really unique preference.

Thanks for the recommendations, will check them out

😂 😂. Two year! Then you still tried.

The only time I get to read boobs is when I am having exams 😂.

But I do read articles online like the ones I know would bring me the money I used my data on.

I am also a book lover especially a novel lover from my childhood, but now I also don't read books like that, because of time management, maybe you were also facing this issue. But book reading is a good activity. You should relax your mind and motivate yourself to read good books.
I wish for that you gain your habit again.

Yeah, I've been facing the same issue about that as you but I'm finding ways to get rid of it.

The more you read, the better you write 🤗 Now if that isn't inspiration enough... then I don't know what is !LOLZ ... I think it's always best to get a nice balance between the two... Find something that grabs your attention and just start! !LUV
