Sex education in Dominican Republic
Sex education here can be summed up in two simple words it sucks, excuse me for the bad word begining the post, but it really sucks, and I'll explain why.
In the homes...
Starting with education at home, which I sincerely feel is the most important, there is a fear of parents talking about it, they paint it as something overly natural and forbidden, and instead of explaining how to do things well and with caution they tell you not to do it, just because they say so.
I understand that it is much better to establish a good relationship between parents and children, where you can answer any kind of question and thus avoid any kind of unwanted pregnancy or illness.
In my own experience, I had a boyfriend very early on, and instead of being taught what I can and can't do with my boyfriend at the time, I was told that I could NOT have one, and I, as a teenager, obviously had one and made a lot of mistakes that I could have avoided if I hadn't been forbidden to have one.
Sex education in school...
To get some education in schools you have to be in a private school, because in public schools they don't even bother to do it. But still, educators avoid the subject and teach other less important things.
I would say that as a MINIMUM they should teach basic concepts such as the act of intercourse, contraceptive methods, sexual diseases, menstruation and pregnancy. And I see it as simple, but I understand that there are many ways to train young people and make them understand the importance of these things.
Here they punish children for being interested in discovering their sexuality and looking for content on the internet, instead of explaining to them what the information they find means and how to deal with it.
Religion...
All of this is closely linked to the Christian religion that rules the majority of the population, because of a theme of waiting for marriage as a virgin, where even masturbating is a sin.
Everyone is expected to discover sexuality at the moment of marriage, unannounced and unassisted. And I feel that this causes so many marriages to fail because of lack of information.
Society...
Most people tend to add morbidity to everything, even if a three year old child is interested in seeing another's penis, if a mother gives her baby her dinner in public it is pornography, having a sexual disease is a tragedy, having a baby without being married is a shame, talking about menstruation is impurity, having more than one boyfriend in life is for prostitutes... and many other things that I prefer not to comment on.
I am sad to say that I live in a ¨propeluche¨ society as a Dominican would say, (which means having unprotected sex) where they celebrate this kind of actions.
In short...
We are very ill-prepared for these issues, to get information you have to look on the internet or through your own experiences or those close to you.
We are getting closer and closer to having a more liberal and educated society, but unfortunately the time span is very long.
For my part, I will try to explain to my children (if I have one day) the reason for things and how to take care of themselves so as not to fall into disgrace due to misinformation.
I know that this is just a post to let off some steam, but I think that this can help to make the situation known and that every day there will be less people afraid of these important issues and BE SAFE.

Educación sexual en República Dominicana
La educación sexual aquí se resume en tres palabras es una mierda, disculpa la mala palabra, pero de verdad que es muy mala, y te voy a explicar porque.
En las casas...
Comenzando con la educación en las casas, que sinceramente siento es la más importante, existe el miedo de los padres de hablar sobre el tema, lo pintan como algo sobre natural y prohibido, y en vez de explicarte como hacer las cosas bien y con precaución te dicen que no lo hagas y punto, solo porque ellos lo dicen.
Entiendo que es muchísimo mejor entablar una buena relación entre padres e hijos, en donde se pueda responder cualquier tipo de pregunta y así evitar cualquier tipo de embarazo no deseado o enfermedad.
Por experiencia propia me pasó, que tuve novio muy temprano, y en vez de enseñarme lo que puedo o no puedo hacer con mi novio en el momento, me dijeron que NO lo podía tener, y yo, como adolescente que era, obviamente lo tuve y cometí muchísimos errores que me pude haber ahorrado si no me lo hubieran prohibido.
Educación sexual en la escuela...
Para conseguir un poco de educación en las escuelas debes estar en una privada, porque en las públicas ni se molestan por hacerlo. Pero de igual forma, los educadores evitan el tema y enseñan otras cosas menos importantes.
Yo diría que como MINIMO deben enseñar conceptos básicos como el acto para el coito, métodos anticonceptivos, enfermedades sexuales, la menstruación y los embarazos. Y hasta simple lo veo, pero entiendo que hay muchas maneras de capacitar a los jóvenes y hacerles entender la importancia de estas cosas.
Aquí castigan a los niños por interesarse en descubrir su sexualidad y por buscar contenido en internet, en vez de explicarles lo que significan esas informaciones que encuentran y como manejarlas.
La religión...
Todo esto está muy ligado con la religión cristiana que es rige la mayoría de la población, por un tema de esperar al matrimonio siendo virgen, en donde hasta masturbarse es un pecado.
Se espera que todo el mundo descubra la sexualidad al momento de casarse, sin previo aviso y sin ayuda. Y siento que esto hace que muchísimos matrimonios fracasen por falta de información.
La sociedad...
La mayoría de la gente tiende a agregarle morbo a todo hasta si un niño de tres años se interesa por verle el miembro a otro, si una madre le da el ceno a su bebe en público es pornografía, tener alguna enfermedad sexual es una tragedia, tener un bebe sin estar casados es una vergüenza, hablar de la menstruación es impureza, tener más de un novio en la vida es de prostitutas... y muchas cosas más que prefiero no comentar.
Me apena decir que vivo en una sociedad ¨propeluche¨ como diría un dominicano, (que significa tener relaciones sexuales sin protección) en donde celebran este tipo de acciones.
En resumen...
Estamos muy mal preparados para estos temas, para informarse hay que buscar en internet o por experiencias, sean propias o cercanas.
De igual forma, ya se está educando un poco a todo el país con estos temas, cada vez estamos más cerca de tener una sociedad más liberal y educada, pero lamentablemente el lapso de tiempo es bien largo.
Por mi parte, yo sí trataré de explicarle a mis hijos (si es que tengo algún día) el porque de las cosas y como se pueden cuidar para no caer en desgracia por desinformación.
Sé que es un post medio de desahogo, pero creo que esto puede ayudar a dar a conocer la situación y que cada día hayan menos personas con miedo a estos temas que son tan importantes y CUIDATE.

Amiga, muchas gracias por responder a mi 'iniciativa' jajaja, cómo has dicho mejor tarde que nunca 😊. Para empezar te cuento que ese día finalmente se aprobó la ley de acceso al aborto legal, seguro y gratuito en Argentina. Hasta la semana 12, abortar es legal sin tener que rendir explicaciones a nadie.
Por otro lado, pienso que el tema religioso es algo que lamentablemente tiene mucha influencia en este tema y en mi opinión hace más mal que bien. Esa idea de llegar virgen al matrimonio es obsoleta para la mayoría de la población jajaja. ¿Entonces por qué seguir privando de información a nuestros jóvenes?
Espero que la situación se revierta para tu país (y para el mío también) en cuanto a educación sexual. Esto debe dejar de ser un poco tabú porque es una cuestión de salud.

Me alegro que lo hayan aprobado!! Aquí ya mucha gente se ha dado cuenta, pero todavía quedan muchos con la misma mentalidad. Poco a poco le iremos sacando esoo.
