Dan Larimer Once Again Trying To Revolutionize Social Media

Dan Larimer is creating a new project that is aimed at revolutionizing social media. After starting Steem and Voice, a blockchain and an app aimed at the social media world, he is now onto his third venture of this nature (in addition to the earlier Bitshares).

In this video I discuss how there is a key point that is being missed in these endeavors. It is a point, however, that is not lost on the Hive community and they exhibit it everyday. This is also the reason why I am highly confident that Hive will excel in the future.

Shhhh don't give the opposition ideas 🤣🤣🤣

Great spot though I do find it is better on Hive and I think it's better suited here. Hive also has better developers and are attracting talent.

It would be great if everything he touched didn't turn to shit - or get bailed on.

I get it, he's good at getting things started and 'raising seed money' - but once that shit dries up he's like a leaf in the wind.

I still got $$$ lost forever in BTS because it just kind of took a crap -

You would think the first and original and best DEX on the planet would be worth more ???

Oh well, I'm just picking up the pieces one 'shit post' after the next ;)

Bitshares had the complexity issue. I put a lot into it and was disappointed too. Of course, I got in after Dan had left and was already onto Steem.

That said, he doesnt appear to be a manager which is not uncommon for people like that. Others have to run the projects which can often cause conflict. I dont know what happened with his "partnerships" over the years that caused him to leave but that is not uncommon either.

We know his other half in Steemit, Ned, was not of the best caliber so many Dan was smart to move on.

I think most people are quite underwhelmed by EOS at this point. Voice has impressed even fewer. If Voice really has full KYC, that's just stupid. I think the original idea was storing only a hash of all the identifying information to make sure each person could only have a single account.

Yes I get that impression about EOS too. Some say it is too hard to develop; others call it an outright scam.

It does appears the EOS holders are not happy with Block.one which I can understand. They do not appear to want to develop the chain.

It's interesting, when I saw the news about Dan's new project...The first thing that came to mind was...The tech is cool and I'm sure it'll be great, but what about the people?

Anything 'social' requires a community.

And sometimes I think the crypto space doesn't understand that when it comes to these projects. Hive has the community...One day, the crypto world will wake up to that fact. It's coming soon I truly believe that!

That certainly does appear to be his m.o.

Not uncommon for people of that ilk. An innovator as opposed to a manager.

I think minor correction is required. During the Videotape Format War, Sony manufactured and promoted Betamax, while JVC promoted VHS. The outcome, apparently, had less to do with marketing and more to do with maximum length of videocassette recording time. Betamax, at least originally, had superior audio and image quality, but its cassettes ran only for 60 minutes. VHS had poor audio and video, but it allowed 120 minutes. The latter allowed an average feature film or 1-2 episodes of an average TV show to be recorded for later watching while being aired on broadcast television. VHS won due to a simple matter of convenience or, to quote a popular saying "The worst enemy of the Best is Good Enough".

From what I have read I like the idea of the inner-workings of Clarion. I just don't know how well it is going to be picked up if there is no tokenization. Plus there are already other platforms that allow for censorship free posts and people haven't really picked those up yet either. Maybe we will get lucky and find ourselves in the Google +/Facebook position. By the time they finally get Clarion together, project blank may already have too much of the market share for them to be successful.

I don't want to be too negative here. But Dan Larimer should start working on Hive more. We've been more successful than any other Larimer's social media. Voice.com was more of a centralized project with all bark and no bite when it comes to fighting censorship. I still think Hive is the best thin o come out of Larimer's work :)

Exactly. Just come back to Hive Dan.

Hard to argue that logic but maybe Dan is the type when he moves on, he doesnt look in the rearview mirror.

But I agree, of all he did, at least with social media, Hive is the most decentralized of anything.

Hive is the most decentralized of anything.

I remember seeing Dan himself admitting this. That's a very high accomplishment as a community. We can all be happy about taking part in it :)

Social media needs to be revolutionized. Just look at Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube banning Trump and his supporters. We need something new.

Summary:
In this video, the speaker discusses Dan Larimer, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency space, and his track record with various projects like BitShares, Steem, EOS, and Voice. The speaker highlights Larimer's strengths as a visionary and programmer but points out potential flaws in his approach, especially in terms of practical implementation and alignment with user needs. The speaker also compares Larimer's projects with Hive, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and sustained effort in achieving success in the blockchain and social media space.

Detailed Article:
The video opens with the speaker addressing the viewers and diving into a discussion about Dan Larimer, focusing on his announcement of a new social media project named Clarion. The speaker acknowledges Larimer's talent as a programmer and his innovative ideas, citing past projects like BitShares, Steem, EOS, and Voice as examples of Larimer's ability to identify emerging trends in the crypto space.

While acknowledging Larimer's creativity and theoretical prowess, the speaker expresses concerns about the practical execution of his projects. The speaker critiques Voice for its KYC requirements, which contradicted the ethos of decentralization and privacy associated with cryptocurrencies. This critique leads to a broader reflection on Larimer's tendency to prioritize theoretical concepts over practical considerations, potentially hindering the success of his ventures.

The comparison between Larimer's projects and Hive emerges as a central theme in the video. The speaker praises Hive for its perseverance and community-driven development, contrasting it with what he perceives as a lack of "stick-to-it-iveness" in Larimer's initiatives. The speaker emphasizes the importance of long-term commitment and incremental progress in building successful projects, highlighting Hive as an example of a platform where sustained effort is paying off.

Furthermore, the speaker touches on the marketing and user engagement aspects of project development, stressing the significance of understanding and catering to users' needs and emotions. Drawing parallels with Charles Hoskinson's approach to Cardano, the speaker underscores the value of dedication and resilience in navigating the challenges of project development and adoption.

In conclusion, the video encourages viewers to recognize the importance of continuous effort, adaptation to user preferences, and resilience in the face of obstacles when venturing into the blockchain and social media domain. By reflecting on Larimer's past projects and contrasting them with the community-driven ethos of platforms like Hive, the speaker offers insights into the multifaceted nature of project success in the cryptocurrency space.
