DIY Postcard with mandala drawing

Drawing mandalas is fun

It takes a lot of work and dedication to draw a mandala, but it's so worth it in the end. While creating one it's also a moment of peace and you feel yourself relax looking at the patterns that arise. I often make the mistake to start a drawing on big paper, because I have one size of thick paper, that works well with most of the markers I have, I often grab this one automatically. Unfortunately, this also means I'm committing to a drawing that will take me many hours, which most of the time takes me days, if not weeks to complete. The pencil mandala that I'm working on is an example. I often get stuck halfway, as I have to let the drawing sink in before I get inspired again, which gives me some space to start another one simultaneously.

That's the mandala drawing I will share with you today. It's a postcard size card, I started sketching with a pencil, but soon started using a black fine liner only.

Let's see how this one came to life

I used the compass for the first few circles only, I'm not very good at using it, I thought mine was pretty ok to use, but it turns out that this one isn't that great either, so I'm personally still struggling drawing nice circles with it.

That's why I soon moved to draw by hand and even threw aside the pencil and swapped it for the black fine liner. Above you see the very beginning of the drawing. It's not perfect, but I'm starting to get the feeling at that point and add another mandala in the other corner.

I started completely different with a lot more black.

This picture above was taken at a strange angle, I tried turning it but then it looked even weirder, sorry for that.

I decided to add some more black in the bigger mandala as well and also started adding more detail inside. At some point, I felt it was done and I didn't want to add more mandalas but some text instead.

I choose the word Relax as the day was a bit stressful here, so I wanted to give it to my boyfriend, and added on the back: "Because it suits you better". He could appreciate the joke and liked the details of the drawing. So do I.

Here's the end result one more time:

My message for tomorrow is: Relax, because it suits you better

Enjoy the Sunday, we are going to do the same.
