Playing with Barking Spider : My Splinterlands weekly battle challenge article

What's up Splinter Addicts!

This your fellow warrior mango-juice with another Splinterlands share your battle weakly challenge post!

Well, the world is getting recovered from the epidemic and the normal days are coming back. Many countries have already revoked the lockdowns but still, I think we have to continue using all safety matters like wearing gloves and mask, avoiding the crowd and also sanitising our hands.

Meanwhile, I am still enjoying my lockdown days. I am doing Work from home as suggested by my office and also simultaneously enjoying my hustling days at hive and discord. I admit I was never more active on here but at least these being caged days have given me the opportunity to involve myself more into this crypto world.

I mostly play splinterlands and even in the discord groups, I mostly talk about splinterlands with my friend. You may find me in the neoxian server most of time trying to convince our doc @simplylife that Barking Spider is not a shit card. lol XD

That reminds me of this week's @Splinterlands challenge post on the Barking spider! If you are a splinterlands player, it's obvious that you know about this challenge post where they give one theme every week and we write a quality post on it and get awesome votes by team splinterlands. This week, the theme is to write an awesome article on the earth reward card Barking Spider! So let's take a deep dive into Splinterlands and meet with our new guest, The quick and clever, Barking Spider.

Typically located in the darker parts of the Splintral forests, these venomous spiders can grow like a full-sized chicken. You can find the presence of them even from a mile away, as their weird barking sound and unpleasant odour cant be ignored.

Level 1 - In its initial level, it carries 1 range attack with 5 health and 2 speed. It brings decent tank health with it and hard to kill in a single blow.
Level 6 - At level 6, it gets the Blind ability which helps you to evade enemy melee and range attacks. Also, it carries 2 range attack at 3 speed and 5 health.
Level 10 - At max level, It possesses 3 range attack with 7 health at 4 speed. This card can be used as tank card when you are missing your favourite tank cards due to ruleset/mana count.

`Abilities`

With this ability, all enemy melee and ranged monsters have increased chance of missing their target. So, this monster will be useful in Lost Magic ruleset where the opponent will only use melee or ranged monsters. Also, in Close Range matches, it can be used as frontal defence with earth elemental. I have not played a lot with this card. But after looking at the stats, I think it will be a good card to play with.

Currently barking Spider is listed on the market for 0.008$/bcx which is a very cheap price and you will also find some multi bcx cards at that rate. I have made myself a level 6 gold foil Barking Spider which I will be using in today's challenge battle. I hope level 6 Spider will survive in the battle of Champions.

Opponent @mykklebust

Ruleset So, It was a Target Practice ( all range and magic monsters get the snipe ability ) + Reverse Speed ( Monsters with the lowest speed will attack first in this battle). It's a micro mana match and I shall go for an Earth deck.

Mana count This micro mana match holds a 16 mana cap!
Summoners This battle supports Water, Earth, Life and Death summoners.

At this much mana cap, after using the summoner, I will be left with only 13 mana in hand but I have to make sure that I utilize it properly to fill at least 5 to 6 places with good monsters. If I take the barking Spider with me I will only have 9 mana left. I will chose a good defence with 1 or 2 attacker in this mana limit.

`Line-Up`

`FLESH GOLEM`

I chose Flesh Golem in the first place so that it would consume a few good attacks from my opponent with its Void ability and also damage them back with his decent melee power. I have a level 9 Flesh Golem at it has 4 melee attack at 3 speed and 10 health. It also possesses 2 abilities as stated below.

Void - take reduced damage from magic attacks.
Heal - Restores a portion of their own health each round.

`Furious Chicken`

As usual, I chose Furious Chicken in the second place so that it would consume one of my enemy attacks. Moreover, using gold foil chicken always gives you +10% DEC bonus ;) My chicken is of level 3 gold foil and it has not yet unlocked the Rage ability.

`EARTH ELEMENTAL`

I chose Earth Elemental at the third position. As it is a Sniper match, enemy monsters will target my backline range and magic monsters first. With its healing ability, I think Earth Elemental will give me decent protection before going down. My Earth Elemental is level 7 and it possesses 3 range attack at 2 speed with 7 health. It also possesses healing ability as stated below.

Heal - Restores a portion of their own health each round.

`BARKING SPIDER`

I chose my Barking Spider in the last position so that it can stay alive for a long time. I am excited to see how it's Blind ability helps me in this match. As I said above, my Barking Spider is of level 6 and it is carrying 2 range attack at 3 speed with 5 health. Also, from level 6 it gets the Blind ability as stated below.

Blind - All enemy melee and ranged monsters have increased chance of missing their target.

Battle Result

I have to admit, Inspite of playing SL for over years now, I still find it unpredictable often to guess the opponent's move in micro mana matches, especially when more than 3 summoners are allowed to use.

For this one, the rules were also a big factor. In target practice matches, you have to focus on your backline so that your monsters don't get dead early.

First, let us follow the opponent's line-up...

My opponent @mykklebust used Water summoner Alric against me.
At the front position, he used Lord A. lev 3. He chose a big defence to his front and I just hope I get able to kill this huge beast with my archers.
At the second position, he used Bone Furious Chicken level 6.
At the third position, he puts Crustacean King lev 6.
At the fourth position, he chose Magi Sphinx lev 6 which will launch devastating magic attacks on me.

It was quite an unpredictable match but at last, I was able to win this one.

At the first round, I was able to destroy the king's armour but my opponent did fierce damage on my elemental with his max magi. But it was still alive.

At the second round, my elemental got able to kill the enemy king. As a result, all the extra armours by the kins ability was no more there. But, the enemy magi also killed my elemental with her 5 magic attack.

At the third round, my spider launched 3 range attack on the magic, leaving her with only 2 health. The magi also attacked and wounded my spider really hard, leaving only 1 health.

At the fourth round, because of having lower speed than magi, my spider attacked first and killed down the last attacker of the enemy! The rest ones (Lord A. and that naughty chicken) also got killed with the help of my Flesh Golem and Barking Spider. I won at last :)

As you have already seen the battle, the cause that made me win this particular match was the rulesets. The opponent was using max monsters in me and could have killed the spider if he had a low-speed monster in the place of magi. Luckily, the spider's last blow killed the wounded magic and that's what made me win this battle.
