Hebrews 13:15 (NIV)

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.

We are to offer an offering of thanksgiving to God. We are to do good works as part of our offering to God in addition to our thanksgiving. We are expected to share in addition to our thanksgiving. When we pay attention to the teachings of Christ it means we are listening to Christ and if we don't, it means we are doing the opposite.

The Church is a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and since the Church is a royal priesthood then as priests, a Church should have a sacrifice because it is our obligation as priests and this instance, we are to offer our sacrifice of thanksgiving in addition to doing good works.

We are to glorify God so as to proclaim His excellency. Thanksgiving and praise is a spiritual sacrifice sacrifice because God wants to listen to the fruits of our lips in addition to seeing our good works.

A fool cannot give thanks to God because the Bible already told us that a fool said there is no God.

Proverbs 15:8 (NIV)

The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.

When the peace of God rules in us then we will become thankful because the thanksgiving of the wicked is an abomination unto God. We are free from sin and that's why we can offer sacrifices of thanksgiving to God. Sin is no longer our nature. We are to continually check ourselves so our thanksgiving can be accepted.
