Notocactus Rubrigemmatus is blooming too

This flower is so unproportionally big comparing to the cactus! Maybe that is why there is just one blooming. The little plant wouldn't handle more. I am still amazed how this tine, green ball managed to pull it off.
I did have a big Rubrigemmatus before as well and it did produce few blooms. Amazing show! It is dead now though so I have to enjoy the little ones for now.

This is probably the most amazing thing. The buds when they grow they are almost red and before they did bloom for the first time I thought this will be the colour of the flowers. If not red, then something pink for sure. What a surprise I had one morning (last year) when I saw the flowers open in the sunny yellow colour. All because of the colour of the petals on the outside. It's quite pretty, isn't it?

The whole flower is very nice with the super delicate flower and dark rec center. Pitythey last only a few ays.
Of course I forgot to sniff it and my furry inspector wasn't around to remind me of it. Lazy fluff...
So I don't know if they have any fragrance. Some cacti do.

It looks like it is getting just a little bit too much sun here. I did put some shading now as the sun is getting really hot, but the slight tan is already there. It will go away though - it's a permanent thing.

The spines on this cactus are pretty cool. More like stiff bristles that you can find in painting brushes. The shorter ones around the long ones are a bit worse they can pinch a little. Nothing terrible though.

Yes, I have two of them :) And both bloomed last year too (see below). I tried to shoot both of them in full bloom, but it didn't work out and one managed to fade.

Quick recap:

Last year was the first time they bloomed, so no earlier photos. And looks like the one in green pot was first too.

5 years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://peakd.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem

Lol I'm starting to think you live in a greenhouse with a kitty, with all these blooming cacti and succulents. #GreenWithEnvy I love the flowers! They seem so unique and rare since their blooming frequency isn't exactly what one would consider "often." More so "regular." lol

Haha I wish :D Like a proper crazy cat and cactus lady. Damn yea!

They sure are picky about blooming. With good care they will bloom every year, but yea.. the green house would help a lot here. Otherwise it is a lottery.

Beautiful!
I think notocactus flowers are fragrance-free.
In any case, I did not meet with fragrant flowers, I do not forget to smell!

Yea I think so too. Some other have some fragrance, but nothing I enjoy very much. One of my Lobivia smells like plastic :)

I have come to believe that all cacti flowers are very beautiful. Unfortunately, the blooms do not last very long. Some only last a few hours in the evening - like my night blooming cereus.

I love your cacti, and the photos are amazing! Indeed it's funny just how big the flower is compared to the actual cactus. I've never managed to get mine to bloom. I guess they're missing some nutrients.

Thanks!
It can also depend on the temperature you grow your cactus in. They generally do not need much nutrients.

Those are awesome! How do you get that black background? I'm guessing you're in a dark room, but where is your lighting?

Thanks!
I actually shoot in the natural sunlight, but I make sure the sun only shines on the plant. With the shadow behind the plant and camera adjusted not to overexpose the images, the background turns almost black. Its pretty cool and I hardly have to edit the photos :)
