[Eng-Esp] Cilindrica opuntia - Opuntia cilíndrica.

Its full name is Austrocylindropuntia.

This is a cactus that belongs to the Cactaceae family, its genus is Opuntia and its species Cylindrical.

It's a highly branched cactus. With a straight stem, cylindrical in shape and with many sharp thorns across its entire surface, with a lengt of 1 cm. It has white areolas from where the spines start.

It has numerous green extensions, similar to leaves, that are very close to the position of the spines on the areoles.

It likes direct exposure to the sun and has little humidity in its soil. It accumulates a lot of liquid on its stem. Its substrate should not flood, as the roots rot. Therefore, the substrate must contain organic compost mixed with sand to ensure good drainage.

I don't know the flower of this cactus. Although it has been with me for several years I have never seen it blossom.

Es un cactus que pertenece a la familia de las cactáceas, su género es Opuntia y su especie Cilíndrica. Su nombre completo es Austrocylindropuntia.

Es un cactus muy ramificado. De tallo recto en forma cilíndrica y con muchas espinas afiladas de 1cm de largo aprox. en toda su superficie. Tiene areolas blancas De donde parten las espinas.

Presenta numerosas prolongaciones de color verde, parecidas a hojas muy cerca de la posición de las espinas en las areolas.

Le agrada la exposición directa al sol y es de poca humedad en su tierra. Acumula mucho líquido en su tallo. Su sustrato no debe ser encharcado, ya que se pudren las raíces. Por lo tanto el sustrato debe contener abono orgánico mezclado con arena para asegurar un buen drenaje.

No conozco la flor de este cactus. Aunque está conmigo desde hace varios años, nunca he visto su flor.
