[ENG - ESP] This is my Bromeliad -- Esta es mi Bromelia.

This is a Bromeliad, its scientific name is Aechmea fasciata.

It originally comes from Brazil.

It's an epiphytic plant, which means that it grows on the trunks and on the trees of the mountains.

In this case it's a plant that is sown in pots. It can grow indoors although it tolerates the sun.

This plant got the tips of some of its leaves burnt, since it was exposed a lot to the sun.

When sowing the plant in a pot it does not need a lot of soil, so the pot can be small.

What it needs is water inside of its leaves. These leaves are arranged in such a way that they join one in front of the other and form a small hole where the water is deposited and there small insects fall from which it obtains the nutrients it needs.

This plant has been waiting a year for its flowering. The floral rod sticks out through the center of the hole formed by its leaves.

Then the top of the little stick opens and all its beautiful petals come out.

This flower remains for several weeks. Then it changes colors, until the flower dries. Then the plant will dry up but will leave some children around it for the species to continue.

Es una planta epífita, o sea ella crece encima de los troncos y en los árboles de las montañas.
En este caso es una planta que se siembra en macetas. Puede crecer en ambientes de interior aunque tolera el sol.

Esta planta quemó algunas puntas de sus hojas, ya que se expuso mucho al sol.
Al sembrar la planta en maceta, no necesita de mucha tierra, la maceta puede ser de pequeño tamaño.

Lo que necesita es agua en el interior de sus hojas. Estas hojas se disponen de manera que se une una al frente de la otra y forman un pequeño agujero donde se deposita el agua y allí caen pequeños insectos de los que ella obtiene los nutrientes.

Esta planta lleva un año en espera de su floración. La vara floral se asoma por el centro del agujero que forman sus hojas.
Luego se abre en la parte superior de la pequeña vara. Y salen todos sus hermosos pétalos.

Esta flor permanece por varias semanas. Luego cambia de colores, hasta que se seca la flor. Luego se secara la planta pero dejará algunos hijos a su alrededor para que continue la especie.
