Sempervivum

(Edited)

I photographed this blooming Sempervivum in the store when I was on vacation. I liked it very much.

Sempervivum is also called "stone rose"
It is a perennial succulent.
Its multi-leaved fleshy rosettes can grow up to 20 cm in diameter.

The root system is small and usually located in the topsoil.

All parts of the "stone rose" (which have glandular hairs) have a delicate, pleasant aroma.

Sempervivum is an unpretentious plant.
Although I managed to "kill" several of these plants.
Then I found out that the reason was incorrect watering ...

It is advisable to grow it in open, sunny places or in slightly shaded areas.
It is not capricious to the soil, but it is desirable to have a high clay content.
Overflow is very dangerous for Sempervivum.

After planting, the "stone rose" blooms at the age of 2-3 years.
After flowering, the plant dies off.
But dying off the plant gives many children with small air roots, which, falling on the soil, grow very quickly.

The rest period of the plant both at home and in nature is winter. Sempervivum does not bloom or reproduce at this time of year.

Old gardeners say this plant has medicinal properties!
Its leaves were previously used in folk medicine.
Making from them:
ointments, decoctions, infusions.
Used for:
pain relief, for disinfection and wound healing,
as a sedative and anti-inflammatory agent.

The photos I were taken with a Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L tablet

Sempervivums are plants that really only grow happily outside. I did kill one once but generally, they are very hard to kill if they get enough sun and fresh air. I don't worry about clay, just grow them in small containers in normal sandy succulent mix. I still never had any flowers yet

I killed some of mine, so they didn't have time to bloom either :-))
The flowering of others I will wait :-)
