My new Astrophytum myriostigma :-(((

(Edited)

My visit to a plant nursery always ends with the purchase of another plant.
And as always, upon returning home, I took up the transplant. I started with a transplant of the Astrophytum cactus.

My purchase joy did not last long ....
Taking Astrophytum out of the pot, I found darkening on the cactus.
Moreover, this part of the cactus was submerged in the ground.
And the top of the cactus was solid and clean, as you can see in the photo.

I don’t even know what I was experiencing more at that moment: grief or irritation.

The fact is that many infected plants are sold in plant nurseries.
These are thrips, scale insects, rot of different types!
And when buying a plant, you cannot be sure that the plant is not sick.
So there is also a risk of infecting your plants.
Yes, the purchased plants must be kept in quarantine.
But in my situation, this is impossible, since I have plants everywhere!

But if this is rot, then it is almost impossible to save the plant.

My Astrophytum had a brown rot.
Brown rot started from the base and spread to the top of the cactus, while the cactus retained its elasticity.

The causes of brown rot are excessive watering, high humidity in the room (plant nursery), low temperature.

Unfortunately, when pruning Astrophytum, I realized that there was no way to save him ...

P.S. always inspect the plant very well before buying, this will still reduce the risk of buying a diseased plant.
Unfortunately, rot is sometimes impossible to identify.

The photos I were taken with a Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L tablet

This is not the only sick cactus that I bought from a plant nursery ....
I told the owners about this, but they kept silent.
They changed my cactus only 1 time, when I showed them a photo the next day from the purchase.
Another difficulty is that the cost of gasoline (nursery in another city) will cost me more than the cactus itself :-(((( + time.

The owners are not ashamed!
They supply diseased plants to stores knowing this!
It happens that the flowers of their plants are full of trips, with dry rot ...
How can such plants be delivered to shops ???? !!!!!

You should stop buying from that place then and tell your friends about it.

They will supply shops as long as the shops will sell their plants. A lot of people don't know how a sick cactus looks like, or if white fluff is a bug or mealybug.
Many people buy painted plants thinking it is their colour. Or with glued/pinned dry flowers also thinking it is the real flower.
As long as there are customers - they have no reason to be more careful.

Unfortunately, I cannot refuse this cattery ...
There are very few of them in Cyprus.
They will always have buyers.
And the shops will not refuse them.
This is the situation here .... :-((
And plant nurseries are not checked :-((
In Russia, it would have been closed long ago, after the very first check.

Gasoline will cost me more than the cost of the cactus itself.
The plant nursery is located in another city ....
