Finally I have the photo I wanted to take, pitayos in nature.

As I mentioned in my last post, I had to go on a trip for a funeral but on the way I made several stops to take the following pictures that although they are not about my garden they are about one of the gardens of the world, well maybe I shouldn't say it like that, they are about some mountains and other people's farmland but they are part of the landscape when you travel from Nayarit to Jalisco here in my beautiful country Mexico.

There is a fruit that almost everyone knows, the dragon fruit that comes from the genus Hylocerueus, this cactus is also used a lot as a rootstock, but there is another fruit very similar in size, color and flavor but that comes from the genus Stenocereus queretaroensi and this cactus can reach a huge size, seriously, they become bigger than cars or trucks and even bigger than some houses.

To take these pictures I had to take the free highway that connects Nayarit with Jalisco, and actually the trip I made was 200 kilometers, and the same day I had to drive back those 200 kilometers, in total 400 km, but to get to the site of these photographs is a distance of 120 kilometers from my home, being an old road it is almost always alone because all the traffic goes through the new toll roads that have a better design avoiding the curves that this road has, I can assure you that if you are not concentrated on the trip you can end up at the bottom of the canyon being part of the statistics of people who have lost their lives in this place known as Plan de Barrancas.

The road is narrow, it has only one lane and the opposite lane, there are almost no places to park, and the few places where you can stop have space for only one car maximum two, so to take the pictures I had to stop and walk a few meters to the place I liked for photography, there was even a photo in which I had to walk about 100 meters to get there, but well it's time to show the pictures, here I show the Stenocereus queretaroensi right next to the road.

Before I continue I want to show another place that I also plan to visit and it is on the same road, this is called Ixtlan del Rio and it also has many cactus in the landscape and that is why I plan to go there, I took this picture from the car while I was waiting for the light to keep going, in the second picture you will notice that at the top of the clock there is a staircase that leads to the top of the mountain where there is a huge statue of christ, I think from there I could see the landscape better and locate the bigger Pitayos to get closer, I show them to you because it will all be part of the adventure when I go back to the site.

Returning to the subject, after passing Ixtlan is when the road to Plan de Barrancas begins and as I told you I stopped many times to take pictures, I could see that the fires have been constant in the site destroying the flora and fauna of the place.

Of course, pitayos are great cacti that can resist everything that nature sends them, not even fires can kill them, they do hurt them and stop their growth but it is sure that they will recover with time, in the following picture we can see how everything is burned and even the pitayo looks a little burned but still standing, it would be a good project to return in a couple of months and see what condition it is in.

As far as I know the town I am going to show in the next picture is called the same as this place, Plan de Barrancas, it is a small town and I really plan to look for someone who can serve as a guide to visit the surroundings, but as you can see in the upper left part, the pitayos stand out as huge black dots in the landscape, they are far away and yet some of them look bigger than cars. (You need to zoom in on the photo)

The road is beautiful and has many interesting landscapes, especially because the most common crops here are agave and here we can see the pitayo at the beginning of the post right next to the road.

Finally one of the pictures that I have had in my mind for several months but for different circumstances I had not been able to do, the truth is that I am still not 100% satisfied because I know that the picture could look better at sunrise or sunset, but it is something I have to plan well, even so this photo is already as wallpaper on my PC and if you also want to have it leave a comment and we can agree on how I can get the image to you, either by discord or by mail, but if you are a nature and cactus lover like me, I'm sure you will enjoy this picture, thanks for seeing the post and see you in the next one.

Wonderfully tall. They grow like weeds here

Here they grow huge because they are in their habitat, and the conditions are appropriate for their reproduction, the only problem I have to return soon is the heat, the distance, the cost of the trip etc, but most of all the fear of rattlesnakes and scorpions, so I need to find a guide in the place but it will be a good experience, I must look tiny next to a cactus like these.
