The re-launch of the Reggaesteem community here on HIVE

avatar

The Reggaesteem tribe has gone through some tough times lately. Today, a new HIVE based community has been launched. Check out the launch post for more information.

I want to share my thoughts on what has led to this point and, more importantly, what the plans are and where to next.

The collapse of JAHM.

The JAHM token is the reward token for the Reggaesteem community. It was designed to reward content and value added to the community, and was set up with a unique use case in mind. The plan was to reward those who built up to 100K JAHM with a JSNS token. This had a real world usage by granting accommodation at various hotels or resorts in Jamaica. In addition, JAHM could be used in the real world, with vendors and tourism operators accepting it or offering discounts for JAHM tokens.

I won't go into to much about what has caused the collapse but it is a combination of factors:

  • Uncertainty over the future of tribe's in general.
  • Departure of key team members and community leaders.
  • General uncertainty leading to a sell off.
  • People selling for STEEM to get more airdrop of HIVE.
  • Coronavirus destroying realworld use case.
  • Cancelation of #JAHMFest.

Rebuilding.

@shanibeer and myself were discussing what we could do to help out and rebuild the community. In discussion with @miyard and @dmilliz we came to the conclusion that the best path forward was to set up the @reggaejahm account, and community here on HIVE, and focus our efforts on building both up with a strong base of HP from direct delegations and soon leased HP. The purpose is to support community members contributing to the community. Growing the @reggaejahm account through curation returns and community support.

The ReggaeJAHM community on HIVE will be the priority. Bringing in new content creators and community members will be a long term goal to grow and provide a new opportunity to the Caribbean and Reggae loving members. I hope to see the @reggaejahm account claiming new account tokens, and looking for ways to on-board people around the Caribbean.

Does the JAHM token have a future?

I hope so. For now it will be left on Steem-Engine. It pointless to spend over a thousand dollars to migrate a practically worthless token to Hive-engine. Even with a rebate being offered by @aggroed, the benefit isn't worth the cost. However, that does not mean it's dead.

The long term plan is to wait for SMT's or HMT's to launch on HIVE, and then airdrop a new JAHM SMT (I'll just call it SMT as thats what we know it as until anything official comes out) to existing JAHM holders. The plan for the meantime is to build a community, with a curation account (@reggaejahm) with HIVE rewards as priority. The long term use case (in a post coronavirus world) is still valid, but will probably need redesigning and relaunching down the track.

I'm personally quite proud to have collaborated with the Reggaesteem team and @shanibeer to help plan for this new direction. I'd love to see all the community from Reggaesteem come on board with this new path, and contribute to the revamped and relaunched Reggaejahm.

I've set @reggaejahm as 50% beneficiary of this post, and will continue to do what I can to support the team and the community moving forward. I'd encourage anyone producing content related to the Caribbean, or Reggae to post in the ReggaeJAHM HIVE community and consider adding in a small beneficiary to help us build a vibrant new home for the community here on HIVE.

Irie vibes for you all,

JK.

Really grateful for you and @shanibeer for helping reggaesteem > ReggaeJahm move forward in these tough times. We really appreciate it. What you all have done reminds me that real people are still out there.

Ps: We should have mentioned the roles you both played in this in the intro post but I’m glad to see you explain it here.

ReggaeSteem was such a brilliant idea, I didn't want to see it lost (never mind the work and passion so many people had poured into it). Here's to a slow coming but irie future :)

Glad you stepped up and stepped in for the continuation of the idea :). Yes , it will be a slow but Irie future, but let us all enjoy the journey.

This news makes me glad my jahm was too worthless to sell.

I think jahm was given away too freely. Massive rewards inflation, which is something you didn't list caused this more than anything.

Let's hope for a positive and bright future.

Your absolutely right, there were more problems than just what made the list above. Tokenomics will be overhauled before any relaunch of the JAHM token.

Short term goals are just to rebuild the community for now and address to token down the track from s stronger base.

Really appreciate your comment and support.

Oh mate I'm so glad you have done this. Nice to know it's not completely dead. Natural Medicine has also decided its not worth the money, especially as it was already paid for. X

Its been a bit of a kick in the teeth to watch a stake it took months and months to build up become basically worthless over a few weeks. But hopefully we can salvage something and rebuild.

I hope you and the Natural Medicine team can find a way forward. Its a great niche to build a community in, and I'd really love to see you guys succeed.

I wonder if @reggaejahm and @naturalmedicine could collaborate to help each other out during these tough times?

It's a pity what happened to all the Tribes... and today we woke up to a collapsing HIVE price, too. Oh well... we're in quarantine anyway, it's not like we have much on what spending our money in. 🙄

Thankfully, this project goes on, with or without a token.

It really is disappointing that tribes have been left behind in all this. Hopefully we can keep the community together and grow it here. Thanks for your support, I hope you don't get too discouraged as I still think there is better fays ahead of us.

Good to see @reggaejahm starting out :)
It's a big challenge starting any kind of business, never mind one as complex, new and ambitious as @reggaesteem. Add tokenomics and global pandemics ...
Lots of learning, though, and still a brilliant foundation idea.

Yup, the use case is still a solid idea, just probably not this year. Build the community first, then add value and usage when times improve.

So glad you are helping with yhis effort.

The future is bright. We should not be concerned with the present situation now happening and glad to see jahm been launch on the hive blockchain
