πŸ‘‘ Ras Tafari Wisdom For These Strange Times 🦠

Times are tough all over the world, and one clear result is that international wealth and power has been even more concentrated during COVID-19.

I can't help but try to look beyond the narrative the mainstream media is feeding us and try to get to the real root of the issues.

The Real Enemy

Β  Β  Β As I watch my former home (the USA) consumed by media coverage of COVID-19 fears and protests against police brutality, as well as the whole world being somewhat destabilized, the indominable Rastafari spirit within me asks, "What is the real enemy?"

Β  Β  Β For our family the real enemy has always been borders and governmnents. While the world media has been super-focused on a handful of issues, world immigration systems have shuttered, and will be this way for months and maybe years to come.

Β  Β  Β My friends back in the USA are always perplexed and confused by my livity, and they love to try and draw me out, especially when dealing with politics.

Β  Β  Β When I talk with my liberal friends that support the protests against police brutality, I like to ask them how they feel about demilitarizing the Mexican border and and granting Mexican citizens visas on arrival.

Β  Β  Β A proposition like this causes even most of my black friends to regurgitate right-wing rhetoric about border security and the need to keep the USA "American." I realize my views are far from mainstream, but I do remember pre-COVID-19, the migrant crisis and the ICE Detention Centers being overcrowded and undersupervised.

Β  Β  Β Just when it looked like black, white and brown were finally united in agreement that human movement, regardless of nationality or ethnicity, is not a crime, the media quickly forgets the issue and immediately focuses on issues that divide us, and I can't see that as a coincidence.

Haile Selassie Spoke Of These Times

Β  Β  Β The above video was taken just before WWII broke out, and we can now look back on H.I.M. Haile Selassie's statement, and understand what he was talking about, and just how prophetic these words were. This message is just as relevant today as it was then.

Β  Β  Β In his appeal to the League of Nations (precursor to the United Nations), he spoke of "world citizenship" and "international morality," issues we still are unable of approaching to this day.

Β  Β  Β World citizenship would mean freedom of movement for all, an Emperor Haile Selassie I idea ultimately ignored by the world at large. Freedom of movement for all would mean less war and violence, something most people I know just can't agree with.

Β  Β  Β It may take another 1,000 years before humanity ultimately accepts the knowledge and wisdom of Emperor Haile Selassie. Bridges build more peace and stability than borders, something it seems most world leaders will never learn.

Β  Β  Β We live on a sphere together, so the idea we can create insulated microcosms called "countries" seems foolish and not in line with biology or science. No other species respects imaginary invisible lines drawn on the Earth.

Β  Β  Β Bear in mind I am just sharing my views, I don't feel anyone else should agree with me or live their life according to my views.

Β  Β  Β I am not saying those who live in a "country" don't have a right to isolate themselves, but create a space on Earth for all humanity to have equal access to, and only then can we see the dream Haile Selassie I spoke of.

"Some winning
Some losing
Some dying
Some crying
We don't need no more trouble

What we need is love
To guide and protect us all
If you're up look down from above
Help the weak if you are strong!"

If only people would live by those words we could see some change.

That's a classic of course. I would update the lyrics and include a "one visa" in there somewhere.

The borders have certainly gotten more restrictive, not even goods can move like they used to much less humans.I feel soon only the big companies will be aboe to move products globally, ( this is a preview).

Oh how I wish for world citizenship. They soon start telling the fish in the sea they can't cross certain oceans .

Seems like we will keep repeating history if we refuse to study and learn from it. When I ask my friends on the streets back in the USA supporting "black lives matter" about the idea of destroying the Mexican border so we can link up and come together, they immediately turn into Trump supporters. "We gotta protect our borders, etc." The USA still ain't woke enough for "non-American lives matter," but maybe that day will come.

I see this racial divide as a constructed setback. Black and white were recently very united in condemning the treatment of illegal immigrants at our detention centers and wanting to free up the borders a bit more. I have heard things are absolutely horrendous in the US detention centers at the moment, there's always an odd Jamaican in there with the Mexicans getting the news out in English.

I would bet if all nations were polled on whether or not they would support "world citizenship," I assume Jamaica would rank as one of the highest and Japan one of the lowest.

(Edited)

LOL yeah, Japan is not supporting now world citizenship. They don't even want to let back in permanent residence and spouse visa holders back into the country at the moment.

Another thing adding to the Mexican border > makes them turn Trump supporters,
.. Black Americans, a lot of them don't care for Africans or Caribbean nationals, a lot of them when they are saying "BLM" they are talking about American black lives. A lot of black people in America will be quick to tell you go back to Jamaica or Africa. They don't see us as equal. Not all, but they exist. It is like the house negro and the field slaves to rass.

"constructed set back" yes, I see it that way too. Someone wants the white house power and to look like they are for the people, they trying too hard though.

I know I knock Jamaica a lot, but I do give massive respect to Jamaica for having interest in West African movies and news. Jamaica is one of the few countries in the western world where I've seen African news and movies on public television.

I think that alone has helped to create the Jamaican psyche. Suriname, even though the most Africa-like place in the western world, is hooked on Bollywood movies, and they have their ears and eyes on Miami, Curacao, Aruba and Amsterdam.

Nuff Jamaicans knock Jamaica too so don’t feel no way. I agree , Jamaica is in tune with its ancestors more than many nations but still ways to go. One of the biggest African beliefs that stick with me is the belief in praying to ancestors. When you think of it, Jah is in all so it makes sense.

what a wonderful world it would be without man made borders!
It makes me think of a time when we went to visit Mexico as a child and I couldn't believe how a man made border could make for such a difference of the level of poverty. It was a stark difference that happened as soon as you crossed the border.

I also remembered when I was younger how we could walk the countryside for miles with out running into fences but now more and more of the area is being divided up and fenced off making it difficult for free passage. thanks for sharing your Ras Tafari Wisdom!

Mexico is certainly a border that should be freed up immediately. The USA would come to a grinding halt without Mexicans keeping the agricultural system working, but many refuse to accept that.

Well, let's hope one day the Great Wall of China will be an international monument to the long forgotten failed idea of borders.

We all bleed red. Babylon trying to keep us down. Not just borders but visas even if you're in the nation, most governments don't want you to stay long term. I'm all for free and open travel without restrictions. Most restrictions are based on greed and wealth. The rich are afraid of the poor and want to keep them from moving about freely. If the wealthier (money wise that is) nations would just invest in the economies of the less affluent nations then the economic migration would not be so necessary. What people can do is travel and support nations with more open immigration and travel regulations and boycott such restrictive nations.

Spot on:

"...travel and support nations with more open immigration and travel regulations and boycott such restrictive nations."

This is true, and a motto we try to live by. Unfortunately we are forced into occasionally transiting or temporarily residing in a country we don't want to support because of the same reasons. If everybody could try and get a second passport in their lifetime, that would be one small step in eliminating borders.
