Trip to Gorlitz in Germany

avatar

On a recent trip to Germany, we visited the city of Gorlitz which is known for being a favourite spot with filmmakers. The 'Grand Budapest Hotel' was filmed there, along with many more. You can climb the Reichenbach Tower but I have no head for heights, so I gave it a miss.

The architecture is stunning and a city that escaped being bombed during the war. The Peterskirche Church is very striking with its towers and copper roof. I love gothic churches and I wasn't disappointed with this one.

Gorlitz is right on the Polish-German border. Gorlitz and Zgorzelec, used to be one city but they were divided after World War II. It was quite a novelty walking over the bridge from the Untermarkt on the Lusatian Neisse river to the city of Zgorzelec in Poland, having lunch in Poland and then walking back to Germany. I just followed the woman with the orange hair!

While we were sat having lunch, we saw various groups of people in dinghies going down the river. We sat there nervously as they went towards the impending waterfall. The experienced ones in the dinghy obviously knew what they were doing, but we all sighed with relief when they got down the waterfall in one piece. It was quite entertaining.

The dessert I ordered was very tasty. Sometimes food looks too good to eat. I could have eaten it again. Food porn at it's best.

We walked around the lovely, winding streets with cobblestones. Having never been to Germany before, I was pleasantly surprised about Gorbitz which is in the region of Saxony. I really enjoyed visiting this beautiful, charming area and wished I could have stayed a little longer.
